HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct

August 2023 progress update as the viaduct crosses another waterway after river Colne. Construction progress on the this part of the project should reach 50% completion in late autumn, viaduct length 3.4km.

Are these temporary works why the budget was blown after halfway?

Great bridge. However the 32 miles of tunnels and a vanity bridge, are the reason why the HS2 link from Manchester to Birmingham has been canned due to budget over runs.

I think had there been no pandemic, war in Europe and consequently inflationary pressures then I doubt the project would be in the situation it finds itself. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

This over engineered route is partly why HS2 is so expensive. It’s run away costs encapsulate the lack of control and oversight by a derelict government and inexperienced civil service. The major contractors have fleeced us , the taxpayer.

Well put! 👍 Though the “runaway”costs also partly affected by a once in a century pandemic and war in Europe..! I think phase 1 when completed will be impressive but we do need at least phase 2.
