I have a question. I really want a smartwatch, just to make my daily life a bit more comfortable. I very much like the fact that you get notifications from your email and stuff. But which smart functions besides the fitness once do you get, and is there a smartwatch which has more smart functions instead of more fitness for around the same price? I would very much like to know because my birthday is soon, and I really want to know which smartwatch suits me the best before buying.

I've tried any number of watches and fitness bands over the years, including the original Huawei Watch GT and imho this one is the best of the lot. I have the 46 mm and it really is very attractive indeed. I agree with your assessment that it "a fancy fitness band in a watch form" but to me that makes far more sense than a smartwatch in the traditional sense trying to be a little, and very awkward, smartphone on your wrist. You are rewarded with that phenomenal battery life and brilliant exercise tracking. It's also great that Huawei have added the phone and music features and the apps on the watch are generally well thought out. It's obviously a personal thing but I wear mine 24 hours a day and the sleep tracking features are excellent. Because it is very light I don't find it in the least uncomfortable to wear at night. I'd even go as far as to say that it is more comfortable than most fitness bands out there, despite its larger footprint. Well done Huawei!

Sarim Majgaonkar it’s a very good Watch I get a full 2 weeks battery wise. However, as I’m changing to iPhone 12 Pro in November, so I have ordered the Apple Watch 6, as this Huawei watch won’t fully work with the iPhone.

Spot on review. Think the team at Huawei made really good choices of providing all the necessary functions without sacrificing battery life. 1.5-2 weeks battery life is a must for any watch, can't imagine the frustration and stress of having to recharge the watch every day or two using WearOS or WatchOS. Anyone using a smart watch will probably be carrying a phone as well, so the penalty of battery draining OS, apps, Wifi etc. on a tiny watch battery is simply pointless at this point; its easy enough to have the phone voice unlock and 'Hey Google (or Siri)' and send a dictated SMS or make a web query.

I think I'm going to wait for the next generation as I feel like they are really close to producing the perfect one with a bit more "smart" features, making slight improvements to the fitness tracking accuracy and a more customize friendly OS.

Should mention that there's no way to synchronise to Strava your workouts, which sucks big time. And no way to export gpx from health app or indeed no way to view health app on PC...

Thanks for the review Damien. I have the Garmin Vivoactive 4 & the looks of the Huawei Watch GT 2 is definitely miles ahead of my Vivoactive 4. As a guy who's very conscious of how he dresses, if I'm going to have a piece of tech strapped to me for basically 24/7 (steps, exercise, sleep tracking), I'd rather have one that looks like it can pass off as an elegant watch. It's a damn shame that the GT 2 can't reply to notifications. That has been a heavily used feature of my Vivoactive 4. Do you think the GT 2 is still worth buying in 2020? I might wait for it to go on sale before I make the switch.

I have the GT watch for almost a year now. Thought about buying the V2 version, but the features are not ones I couldn't miss in my every day use. At first I missed Strava and some other functions. But as you say in the video, the classic look and feel and the enormous battery life is what makes me wear this instead of my Garmin. Btw. I love the 46mm as other watches look too small on my wrist.

According to a Harvard smartwatch comparison research, Huawei smartwatch sleep data function is one of the best in the market. I guess the heart rate accuracy would be quite good too. For that, you have to do further investigation.

I read in a lot of sites, that there is a problem with step counter. For example, even if you are driving, it still counts steps. Is that true?

Can you turn off the voice fitness update as you exercise as I don't want it talking to update me on my progress as I'm working out. The occasional 'beep', to get me to look at the screen, is ok. Thanks

i am using gear s3 for almost 3 years. it has got many features and still one of the best smart watch in the market. yesterday bought GT-2 and looking gorgeous on my hand. Options are limited and missing many features which were already on gear s3 for.many years. couldn't find gallery and custom watch faces. and there seems no Bluetooth and Wifi options to turn it on or off for our convenience. Watch is light weight and fit perfectly good. i just swaped the starp with gear s3 and it looks great. Battery backup is going strong enough for atleast a week. will let you know after using it for a month..

I consider this watch a conpanion to my mate 20. I don't need to constantly pick up my phone and check whats going on anymore. Also calling via the watch when you are in a hurry is a great feature!! Can't stress this enough. I have no issues sleeping with it and its incredibly accurate tracking my sleep times. Stress is not working properly.. It's a beautiful watch and with few major updates it could become the very best companion smart-ish device.. At least for now

My watch gt2 stopped recieving WhatsApp call notification anymore. I used too get my WhatsApp call directly to my watch gt2. Now suddenly stopped working. However I tried connecting to iPhone it works fine. Only it's not working if I connected to any Android phone. Any idea? How to fix.

Thanx for the fine review. I'm considering buying it, though the Sport version. The gps, music storage and for one the battery life is important to me. I've been very glad for my moto 360 sport the last 4 years, but its daily charging has made the battery life come to an end, with just 6 hours (without Bluetooth or WiFi enabled).

@@KaneNova I did buy it yes and it's an awesome watch. The fitness tracking could be better, but the running and walk is great. I'm recharging every 12 to 14 days. I don't need more than this, even the straps are good.

I just purchased the 46mm. I can't stand the look of the Apple Watch, as I'm much more of a traditional watch guy. As I looked at features and aesthetics of the watches that are out there today, I though the GT2 ticked all the boxes for me and gave me the functionality in a smart watch that I would actually use. Nice review, by the way.

Hi, I feel my cal count is out. Had a full day early morning weight session over 10,000 steps been on the go since 5.45 this morning and it's 9.1w and only burned 904 calories but Google fitness app up at nearly 3000 cals. Any ideas?

On average a person burns 100 cal for every 2000 steps. (Of course, size, weight etc not considered here). So for 10,000 steps should be 500 cal. If you're big, 904 would be reasonable.

No texting? That really sucks....the whole reason I want a smartwatch is so I can answer calls and respond to texts without grabbing my phone. Probably the best looking smartwatch on the market. I wish the Galaxy watch was as thin as this one is...way too chunky for me. Might get an Active 2

Bought one of these and had to return, for the fitness enthusiast its pretty useless as its so inaccurate. Tried it on runs, hikes and in the gym comparing it with a Garmin and Fitbit, it undercounts everything big time and whats worse is no way to export anything.

Hello. Great review, great watch, but there is one important thing to consider before buying, that is not mentioned in this review: For me the most important things on a Smartwatch are tracking sports and showing messages. BUT: the GT2 (and GT1) is not able to do both at the same time. So when you have started a workout, you do not get informed of new messages. The Watch will receive the sms & WhatsApp’s, emails, but you will not notice. During workout there is no alert, no vibration and you can not switch to the messages-screen until You stop the workout. Some workouts do not require getting messages, but if you are in a gym for several hours or you are just going for a walk and track ist, i think the alerts during workouts are very important. I can not understand, why Huawei did not implement it. Forme this is a no go and I returned the watch, that I normally would like the most. What do You think? Does it matter for You?

There is a section in setting where you can allow notifications to been seen during workouts. My problem is. Heart rate is about ten beats out I only use it in gym crossfit style training and the calorie count is way out.

Hi wolfgang. Yesterday I bought the gt2 (42mm). I tried it this morning with two walks of about 1km each (outdoor run mode, no bluetooth on my phone) and it said in live display that I was walking at about 12min/km while in the end it told me in the app that I walked an average 10min/km (simple math like time/distance overall)... Do you know why I received a so bad live pace measure? This is very important for me in 10km races and it showed an error of about 20% (too big for me imho)

The GT 2 is an amazing smartwatch, but why you can't See Emojis? The battery Life ist absoluty stunning. But i Love my Samsung Galaxy Watch i think this Watch is a little better than the GT 2. I Hope huwei brings an GT3 with LTE and Emoji Support.

before anyone buys this watch, just know the step and calorie counters are inaccurate AND it doesn't count the resting calories either. really disappointed as it's otherwise perfect and absolutely gorgeous
