What a productive day in the garden! Once the potato plants flower, they are producing tubers and require consistent watering for the next 2 to 3 weeks. (Remove all those flowers so the plants use the energy for the spuds.) Once the plants begin to die back, stop watering. Hopefully you will get larger spuds next year. You have inspired me to plant spinach under my tomatoes. Thanks for sharing your time!

I plant potatoes 1 inch deep in the soil with a can of sardines under each plant's rootball. Straw mulch on top and keep piling it on as it grows. Max height of mulch mound 1 to 1.5 ft. No watering necessary, no compost or fertilizer.

Our tomatoes did really poor this year too. I’m in Central Texas now and we’ve had a reeeeally long stint of nothing but 100°+ days and they just didn’t produce as much as I was hoping for. The heat isn’t leaving anytime soon either. It’s made it hard to get new plants in the ground for a fall too…maybe, but maybe next year too, who knows lol. I did order polar bear zinnias the other day (one of your other videos sealed the deal for me lol). Love long garden work days 🥰

Already typed this once and typing makes my hands hurt worse. So I'll just give a list. Lol. Let me know what you think... Recessed growing beds, too much space between plants, a lot of mulch in growing beds and walkways-especially mulch that rots, planting varieties/crops more tolerant of drought, and some shade cloth for worst times. Lol, I'll add more tips as I think of them. Many fabulous blessings everyone everywhere.

Potato harvest: You need more water all season, very regular and keep soil damp. Your earth should not be that dry when you dig. Shouldn’t be soggy but it should be damp. Keep watering😊- from Idaho. Thanks for the videos.

I don’t know what my potatoes are going to look like as crickets have eaten most of the leaves off. I should probably stop watering them and pull them in the next two weeks. Thank you for the reminder I totally forgot that I have to stop watering before pulling them. I am still new to growing them. Love your channel.

With your carrots seen other utube people they say to keep them moist until they come up also put wet carbord on top to keep them wet... Potatoes need fish like tomatoes do aswell like a raw fish head which I am going to try this year in my yard...but U have to dig down far enough as the cats or dogs or rats will smell them and dig them out big time... Live your show...put in some cherry tomatoes...plenty of time for that or rocket or spinach or chard spinach different colour ones...eat the stems... U have got me thinking of gardening now but in Australia we are in winter no snow but daffodils are starting to flower... Want about some beetroot and then U could pickle them or grate them also sugar cabbages are a small but quick cabbage and sweet ones to grow...goodluck.. ❤❤❤

I love your enthusiasm and determination with making the most of your garden. Most of my garden this year was in the black bags, but I didn't have much success with them. I think my biggest problem was the heat. Most of our day thus far this summer have been miserably hot and my produce didn't like the heat. All of my cucumbers were so bitter that we could not eat them. My beefsteak tomatoes were the size of large cherry tomatoes. My zucchini only gave my one, but it was delicious!! Keep up the great work. I am so happy that I found your channel.

Wow. All those terrible things just from bad weather???? What spacing did you use??? I know square foot gardening will NOT work without a lot of water. A lot of Compost in the ground/growing mix, too much space between plants, and plastic mulch - mulch that rots is way better though. Lots of mulch that rots🤔 12 inches a year would be a good start. Some areas that have problems with drought use recessed growing beds. No joke. Mulched Walkways are a good 10 inches higher than mulched growing beds. And that's year round mulch. Walkways are also heavily mulched to slow evaporation way down. Lol. Is that enough suggestions for one comment???? Many fabulous astounding blessings everyone everywhere.

That's what I was thinking, about the mulch. You really need to water to make sure the water is getting through the mulch & deep enough into the soil to reach the plant roots - & not just the potatoes. Your soil looks good but I wonder how long it holds the moisture. I had to add peat to my soil because no matter how much I watered, it only seemed to go an inch or two into the soil. One of these days we are going to add drip lines. Also, the kind of potatoes you grow are the type that don't get real big. If you want big like baking spuds, go with Russet potatoes.

I would of love to see the potato treasure hunt, lol. I heard the Caribe potato variety is very prolific, big and forgiving. For potatoes full sun is important, also potatoes are usually planted on hills or raised rows, to allow for drainage and fertilize again around midseason. 1 to 2 inches of water a week and stop watering only when the foliage begins to turn yellow and die off.
