The irrational fear of a technology is silly, especially when we know it's mandated to become the predominant tech for cars of the future. Are you still riding your cart and buggy and staunchly defending blacksmiths? Seems like it's time to face reality. Even if you insist on hating electric motors, which makes little practical sense, fully automated self-driving EVs are going to rapidly revolutionize the economy and if you refuse to adopt it you will certainly pay the price of you stubbornness.

Nissan CVTs can be reliable IF they are serviced every 25-30k miles.... I too was concerned about that when I met my wife since she had just purchased a 2017 Nissan Rogue with the infamous CVT. I am a technician and service all my vehicles religiously... the Rogue now has over 110k miles and runs and shifts like the day she drove it off the car lot. I've replaced the fluid, cartridge filter, and pickup screen every 30k miles. ALL automatic transmissions require timely fluid & filter changes just like your engine does !!! Do this and you should have a reliable vehicle for many years.

Hey, an acquaintance of my co-worker leases 3 cars, one comes up each year. She directly sells the cars to friends and acquaintances for the payoff amount. Toyota and Nissan allow you to transfer the title directly. Honda requires you to go to the dealership to perform the transfer. 3 years ago, I got her 2018 base model Civic for $11,000 with just 14,900 miles on it. I threw the dealership a bone and got a Honda manufacturer's extended warranty up to 100K for $1400. I was out the door for $14.2K after taxes and tags, etc. I had the option to get her Rouge but I declined and my co-worker later got it for his son. This is something that is never mentioned as an option to save money and avoid getting ripped off. My co-worker got the 2019 Rogue for $16K out-the-door with 17,000 miles on it.

One day we have a crash and the next day we are going to skyrocket. Let's be real. There are no Chinese vehicles here and if and when, why would anyone buy one even for $15K . Remember the Smart Car? LOL I would rather have a proven used EV for close to that (either way, I will not buy one) Lets not forget that Volvo is owned by a Chinese Co. At any rate, The economy sucks. New car prices are through the roof. Dealers suck. Interest rates are the highest they have been in 20 years. Nobody wants EV.s. The one thing nobody is talking about is how 21 and 22 production vehicles were barely produced. If someone is looking for a low mileage 2 to 3 year olds, guess what? Not much out there when it comes to exact "wants" Toyota, Honda, and mainstreams entry levels vehicles are now in the mid to high $30k's That is the reality and it all sucks. And yes, dealers suck yet again just like the medical industry, insurance industries, your cell phone carrier, and streaming and cable prices. They all suck

One thought on comparing year-to-year MSRP, even on the same model in similar trim: Compare apples to apples. First, look at annual inflation (which is non-trivial lately), and adjust for that. Then compare features year-to-year. Latest year is seldom the same car. Some things like superfluous extra tech and comforts are manufacturers' choice to increase margins unnecessarily. Shame on them, no one is demanding these features. Some things may be mandated by additional safety, emission and efficiency regs, or unwise design changes to attempt compliance (think turbo 4-bangers or 3-bangers, automatic start-stop, etc.) Only way to reduce MSRP year-to-year and stay viable is to reduce features/size. I can still roll up windows with a crank and shift gears - most people can. (And there would be a market for SOME production to be like that, at lower but sensible margins.) Affordability by consumer choice, not profit/feature climbing spiral by designers' choice.

Yeah…we saw it coming BUT what would bring more people to EV’s? Lower prices. Heck BYD, who’s partially financed by Warren Buffet, sells EV’s starting at 10K. If you’re in NJ you get 7.5K from Uncle Sam and up to 4K from NJ…that means the car would be FREE. How about that for helping workin’ folk?

2023 models are nearly two years old. Someone is going to have to eat that depreciation no matter what the interest rates are. Smart buyers will not fall for that. Maybe half of MSRP with zero interest rates might make it worth it. But they want full MSRP or close to it.

There are very few in any Chinese made EV's being sold in the US. I fail to see how the new tariffs will affect the prices of the US made vehicles. What IS going to affect the price is demand and right now there is no demand mostly due to the prices. If the US manufacturers don't lower their prices, they still wont sell any EV's.

Over reaction. American EV prices might get some support but it will still depend on consumer demand for the EXISTING maker’s products. With no Chinese EVs on the market TODAY and EV prices are falling under current market conditions, how do you figure this will have any upside price effects?

How many Chinese EVs are in the U.S.? The tariff has no effect because we already didn’t have them. It may stabilize the price at higher levels than what they would have been, but it’s not raising them. Prices are already going down for EV’s and will continue to do so as manufacturers get better at making them and we use new materials to make them.

How can buyers that live in apartment buildings charge their cars. Many parking garages in NYC won't let electric cars park inside. My friends New MB dealership can't park electric Benz's in the showrooms by order of the Fire Department in Bridgewater NJ

Products overall are costing more for tangibly less. I think the majority of Americans are not willing to spend more for less. Managing the inflation while not making more money is resulting in less sold cars. Where I stop buying things that cost more is with an automobile. I’ll take a used car or more of a base model to reduce cost of purchase. I was not even willing to by a used car with inflated prices and increased interest rates. It is getting better for used cars..

Obviously you failed to take in the demand side of the curve. Demand is falling as fast as the price will go up. With the price going up, demand will fall even further. The end of the EV market will, thankfully, come much faster than it would have otherwise?

The problem with EVs is price. I see a lot of Bolts. Not everyone wants a hypercar, but all mfrs seem to need to make all EVs go zero to 60 in 4 seconds. I want a cheap EV that goes over 200 mi. Can anyone actually do that?

They are not an aspect of current EV pricing, so blocking them won't change anything. There isn't competition when there's a cartel. Nissan CVT sucks. Bring in a European Qashqai and I will buy it.

Not exactly sure what you’re saying but China’s BYD, financed by Warren Buffet makes an excellent cars from 10K on up. In Jersey we get the 7.5K from the government but up to 4K from Jersey and I think no sales tax. Imagine that for competition…a FREE car.
