Eagle is a bird of prey of the hawk family. Belongs to the number of large birds. The body length of an adult bird varies from 73 to 89 cm, long wings up to 2.5 m, wingspan, short tail and strong legs. A massive beak and sharp claws are the main weapons of this predator.
Eagles are fairly common birds. They can be found in the forests, tundra, steppes and even deserts of Eurasia, North America and Africa. They can build nests both on the ground and on trees, but most often they choose mountain ranges.
Excellent vision allows the eagle to notice a mouse, snake or lizard from a great height. The eyeball is large and takes up a lot of space in the skull, so the mobility of the eyes is not great, but a well-developed neck compensates for this deficiency. Auditory eagles are more used for communication than for hunting. The sense of smell is poorly developed.
They usually hunt alone. An eagle can soar for a long time at high altitude in search of prey or sit on a hill and watch the surroundings in search of a prey. As a rule, only killed prey goes to food, carrion is rarely included in their diet. It all depends on the type of bird. It can be both insects and large mammals. During the attack, the eagle drops sharply, grabs the victim with its paws and strikes with its beak. A stunned creature can no longer resist.
Eagles choose one pair for life. Nests are built large and strong using twigs. Lay 2 eggs each. While the female incubates them, the male takes care of her nutrition. Hatching offspring are immediately visible and covered in fluff. The nature of the predator makes the chicks from a young age fight for survival. Often you can watch a big chick trying to push his little brother out of the nest. Sometimes it can even kill him by fighting for food. In cases where there is enough food, several chicks grow in the nests.
In the world there are about 40 species of these birds. The largest eagle is the Golden Eagle. Its length reaches 95 cm, and the wingspan is more than two meters. Plumage from Golden to Comrade Brown. They nest exclusively in mountainous areas. They are hunted in pairs and mainly during daylight hours. They feed on birds, squirrels, martens, hares and even larger animals.
White-tailed eagle stands out for its unusual color. Against the background of brown plumage, you can notice yellowish spots on the head and neck, and the tail is painted white. A fairly large representative of the hawk family, preferring a fish diet.
Eagle fisherman (osprey) - a small bird that looks like a seagull. Weight - 1.5-2 kg. Hunts on the water, catches fish during the flight or dives into the water. Feeling anxious, the bird rings loudly and very loudly.
Even smaller than the osprey is a dwarf eagle. Its color can be both light and dark. Weight - less than a kilogram. Like all representatives of this type of bird, the gnomes have good eyesight and they fly using a gliding flight. They can remain at high altitude for a long time, tracking down prey.
