@@rithwiksingh3156 I'm not (nor ever was) in the military, but I would suppose the XO was the only one who could question the captain in the moment, chain of command is a serious thing, especially at sea. @@rogerward7060 It's the XO's duty to question their captains orders if they may put the ship or the nation at risk, and present alternatives. However once the captain has made their decision (and its a legal order) the XO's duty becomes carrying out that order to the best of their ability. Chain of command isn't always blindly obeying orders, its offering alternatives and if need be, questioning orders. The only issue I personally have about this scene is how he did it, he did it infront of the crew rather than privately. That kind of action can have an effect on the moral of the crew and their willingness to follow orders.

And in the actual Navy, the XO, as per one of his duties, would promptly relive the Captain on Command, as he clearly is behaving irrationally and violating orders and the chain of command. Contrary to Hollywood, a Captain doesn't have the authority to do what ever he feels, that could jeopardize the ship or start a war.

Submariners in real life are much more reserved and a lot more cold blooded. Commander Mush Morton of the USS Wahoo once ordered enemy soldier in life boats to be machine gunned after the sinking of their ship. He did order however that soldiers in the water should not be shot. Commander Morton is also the father of modern submarine tactics and a hero to many submariners.

The Buyo Maru incident. The saddest part of that is that the majority of the survivors he gunned down weren't even enemy soldiers but allied. The transport had been carrying Indian POWs and they had been mis-identified as being solely Japanese.
@thebean8255
@thebean8255 Жыл бұрын
In that particular incident, the Wahoo sank a troop transport off of Guadalcanal. Most of the troops it was carrying were observed getting onto the smaller boats the transport used to ferry men to shore, and they were close enough to Guadalcanal that letting them go without sinking the boats would have meant letting several hundred enemy troops land on an island that was barely held by the Americans at this point of the war. He was militarily OBLIGATED to machine gun the boats. War isn’t pretty, it isn’t romantic, and unrestricted submarine warfare is horrific. There are no rules in total war.

Or...OR....as a director of a MOVIE...you have to show that the stakes are high or the person is in stress somehow on the screen...since the audience isn't there. And in todays popcorn cookie cutter shows...this is how you do it. In really good movies when the stakes are high with really good actors...you can feel it from their acting and better script writing.

A 'Riptide' .. how deep???
@sacr3

Yeah there's no riptides as deep as they are, rip currents as they are properly called occur on the beach, so when I heard him say we're caught in a Riptide I kind of laughed, thinking no one in that room bothered to Google what a rip current was before they allowed that script to go through

Check the comments there's one saying USS Arkansas is the biggest submarine in the world well it is lie because the biggest one is the akula class from Russian federation vérifiez les commentaires, il y en a un qui dit que l'USS Arkansas est le plus gros sous-marin du monde et bien c'est un mensonge parce que le plus gros est La classe akula de la fédération de Russie Even in real life there's one who gonna don't follow the orders of the captain Même dans la vraie vie y'en a un qui va pas suivre les ordres du capitaine Steven Blackwell on the comments section shut up that is criminal and unhumanitarian order you cannot call him hero Steven Blackwell sur la section des commentaires taisez-vous qui est un ordre criminel et inhumain, vous ne pouvez pas l'appeler héros
