Talk about nailing a character. Crazy how spot on Depp was
@bruce23577 ай бұрын
I had no idea what he sounded like when I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and thought Depp was making the guy into a cartoon character. When I saw a video of Hunter I like you was amazed at just how well Depp nailed his voice and mannerisms.

@@bruce2357Johhny Depp and Hunter were close friends. Hunter is actually the one who shaved Johnnie's head for the movie; if anybody could replicate him, it's Johhny
@jakehawkinsmusicАй бұрын
Hunter wrote the book while using an alter ego of himself, Raul Duke, as the narrator on purpose to really drive home the themes and chaotic nature surrounding the message and ideas that he was trying to get across. 'Raul Duke' was an exaggerated caricature of Hunter that was partaking in slightly exaggerated events. This was basically not only just him on drugs; but more so the product of a drug-fueled combination of him writing while on drugs, about himself on drugs. That Raul Duke character became synonymous with Hunter however and he really leaned into it, resulting in that becoming what everyone who didn't know him personally, thinks he acted like. The fame that he gained after Fear And Loating In Las Vegas changed him in a way; still the same old Hunter when it came to writing and passion for American culture and politics, but believe it or not, he was not always as strung out as he became for the remainder of his life. He had always been an avid smoker and very hard alcoholic, but he was not as deeply involved with all the other drugs until his trip to Vegas. The movie itself and it's editing/style really played into the caricature as well. You should watch Fear And Loathing in Aspen. It follows his campaign for county sherriff in Colorado from 1969-1970. The guy who played him, looks exactly like young Hunter and really does a more realistic, yet spot-on impersonation of him. Hunter was both, the man and the legend. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, the film, however will forever be a great representation of the legend of Hunter S. Thompson.

Considering how old this is, it's either the camera's exposure not able to pick up the mountains contrasting with the sky, or they're in a dip in the terrain. Either way, you wouldn't recognize this spot today. Vegas outside the strip has basically been torn down and rebuilt from scratch in the last 50ish years.
