I have a regular-sized double bed in a smallish room. If I could turn the mattress the way you did, but build the headboard to fit the long side, I’d have so much more useable space. I’ll remember that for the future! It was sweet to see that both you and Jacob regretted the need to repaint the old bed. Grace is a wonderful young lady and so very good with the baby. It was fun to ride along with Jacob and company as they went hunting. Thank you for not showing any kills. I eat meat, but do not want to see the animals die. I know that is strange, but I’m a city girl! Mostly, thanks for showing that a house does not need to be completed all at once. There is no shame in leaving a room empty until you have time/money to furnish it. Well done!

I've seen people do full size daybeds that work really well! We rationed with this bed that if someone tall stayed over, they could always sleep the long way. It is tough showing our home in it's current state, but this is our reality right now - things are tough with a baby! We'll get there though.

Ana White Please don’t ever feel bad about showing us your home. I believe perfect homes are staged for television, or owned by people who work 100 hours a week. Your home is lovely, full of life, love and happiness. 😀 Your idea about a double-sized day bed is very interesting. Thanks!

That bed is what inspired me to pick up a hammer - I fell in love with the lady who “knocked off” all those beautiful pieces I drooled over in the Pottery Barn catalogs. Thank you for continuing to encourage all of us! ❤️

Ana, I was sad for you when you painted the bed, I know that had to be hard. You will make new memories with it now. I'm glad it has survived all this time. Great build!

I knew the bed frame was sideways, but then I thought maybe it was just the camera angle. Glad to know I’m not losing my mind. Love the farm bed design and the grey is a beautiful update.

Grace is as tall as Ana now! I used your tips for building furniture this spring when my husband and I got a California king mattress. It's not pretty (my husband is all function, no form), but that thing would survive if the whole house fell on it. It is build brick solid.

Due to the shape of my "master" bedroom, my bed has to be sideways against a long wall. The headboard I built using a 5 panel door is sideways so if I ever have a differently sized room I will change the mattress/box spring orientation and connect night tables (or at the very least swing-arm (wall mount) lamps to the headboard where it's then too wide for the bedding!

Great video looks just absolutely gorgeous there at your place. Building a bed myself, not quite a farmhouse bed but out of old barn wood. You got me started on this path of making furniture at 60 yrs of age. Operating a skidsteer is one of my favorite things to do on the homestead. Love seeing the family. Keep up the good work.

Going to build this bed based on the plans on your site. My question is were you able to find untreated 4x4s or is it ok to use pressure treated? I am having trouble locating untreated ones. Also, if I use treated do you have any suggestions on the painting process for the treated parts (waiting and let the pieces dry out, priming and painting straight away, etc)?

PS I knew you were going to paint it gray, it's your go-to color! Also Marquis/Marquee is pronounced mar-kee, the same as the sign from a theater.

What is a strong enough drill that I should buy? I think our current standard battery powered one isn’t strong enough to really put a screw into a solid piece of wood, and I have no clue what to get, nor what brand is a good one.

I know I obviously don't know your situation, but I'd just recommend thinking twice about the message you sent to Grace by making her stay home to help with the baby. You told her that it was more important for her to take care of a baby (that she didn't even decide to have) than to go hunting which she wanted to do. Yes it teaches responsibility, but also teaches her to put her needs behind others, which (not in moderation) can be harmful for a young girl to hear.
