Different style this episode, as much of the time was spent in port in Mexico. But as things started to ease off we made our way out of the hurricane region to Guatemala. Interesting to note that Puerto Aventuras in Mexico didn't have a hurricane for 10 years, this year they have had 5.

How I found your postings is I'm interested in the Neel 43. I don't have my f31 Corsair anymore. I have a Hortsman 43. I'm wanting a newer design and a more modern boat. I love the Neel concept of keeping the hulls more in performance keeping while borrowing the cat bridge deck style of living. We tri owners know the tri's design "in my opinion" rule. Better up wind performance & ease off a bit and wow! My Corsair was better than any amusement ride offshore in a running sea & wind. Cheers, Duncan

Hi James! Nice to see you back! I am glad you didn't get thieves visiting you in Livingstone like we did...The crowd at the dinghy/transport boats can also be a bit intimidating. About the electric motor...an endless subject...I think it is only doable with a good DC generator that can feed your lithium batteries in real time and allows you to go at 3 or 4 knots. It is not efficient at all in terms of fuel consumption but it will be compensated by all the times that you will not use the generator for smaller tasks, not to forget the regen you will put in your batteries. Of course you then don't eliminate the diesel engine all together but it would get very little use in theory. Keep them coming.

Hi again Tone, the dog is great for warding off scumbags. We got a lot of negative interest at anchor there but were safe in the end. Phillipe will no doubt fill us all in when he has the electrical propulsion sorted. J

Hi from Northern California. A Thought about anchoring with my former f31 I would rig a line from one of the ama's to the main anchor line centering it between the main hull and ama. Would greatly reduce dancing of the boat in the wind. Also have deployed a rear anchor mostly to control swing in tight anchoring locations. Cheers.

Great education and execution. Interesting watching you harvest the sea's bounty: note to self learn how to dive and fish below. River looked very calm and enjoyable. I'd probably add the word sailing or sailboat in the title. A lot of demand for this type of content. The boat looks better each time. Cheers.

The long closing shot going upriver - fantastic. could have watched the whole upriver journey in real time. Slow TV. Subcribed on that shot. Re battery limits, are you recommending a larger than stock battery bank, or are you diesel-centric? 'Bar Exams' but you don't want to be ON the bar.

I am looking forward to seeing more videos of you sailing your vessel. It would great to see if you have had any additional issues and how you have dealt with them. I am really fascinated by this boat. Is there storage under seats in the cockloon? I have seen a video showing it. Storage room was a short fall that was highlighted in a review.
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 3 жыл бұрын
No storage there. Only someone with the vision of stevie wonder would say this boat has poor stowage. Mental claim. I keep finding new places all the time I didn't use. Thanks for comments

Just subscribed due to your impressive evaluation on another video. Is your helm station cover adequate? It seems quite small. I know you were prepping for a near miss hurricane for this video, so the curtains, I assume you have them, were stowed. But comfort and helmsman's durability are important in blustery or worse conditions. So, just asking.

That’s a good one James, thank you ! Regarding electric, sure it’s safe to have DC generator(s), they allow very long ‘motor passage’, and for the information of your viewers, at more than 3 knots and maybe in even a more efficient way than with a diesel propulsion engine 😉 Take care and have fun. Philippe.

Congratulations on your $7. Good videos, good information. And yes, very interested in the modifications. (Also do think people are more or less likely or about the same, to get sea sickness on your trimaran or a cat? How about compared to monohulls? Thanks. )

When you refer to 50Hz vs 60Hz do you actually mean 230volts vd 110volts? The frequence does little (I believe) but the voltage burns circuits if its wrong. Thanks for great vids!!!
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
IN Eu the supply is 50 hz, across the atlantic it is all 60hz and varies from 110v to 220v (2 phase, Ie two live or hot wires to make up the 220v). This is something that is very important to account for. Mastervolt chargers can handle it but when you charge with 110v when setup for 220v the current will be higher. Its kind of hard to discuss the hz thing. But 60 to 50hz is ok 60 to 50hz is not.

Hi James , great channel, I'm looking for some info from an owner such as yourself , have you ever removed a thru hull fitting on your Neel 51, I would like to know how the manufacturer protects the PVC core from water ingress, I understand some manufacturers create a solid glass plug then drill the hole for the thru hull fitting , other just drill the hole and sikaflex the thru hull fitting
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 3 жыл бұрын
I would say it is the latter. It shouldnt be much of an issue either way, as if there is water ingress you would soon see about it. The sikaflex for through hulls is VERY strong. I would not concern yourself too much about this.
