The actual storm is awful, but most people don't understand is the loooooonnnnng aftermath: The tarps over holes in your ceiling, the black mold, electricity down for at least a week, no fresh water for bathing/cooking/flushing, the loud sound of your neighbor's generator if you try to open a window (wishing you had one), curfews, zero coffee and THE HEAT.

My daughter and I was in our apartment in Lake Charles Louisiana when hurricane Laura slammed us as a powerful cat 4 With two eyeballs. Laura winds got up to 300mph from 419am to 449am. For the people who can't leave, a sound of a hurricane that powerful can really get to your nerves. Be careful not to get to draw into that high pitch sound. It's damaging to your nerves trust me. I am a harpist and I played my harp just before hurricane Marco came in right before Laura. And I was so glad I did that prayer for my daughter and I with my harp because as Laura came in there was a loud explosion it was very intense and overwhelming. We went through two hurricanes in one night hurricane Marco and hurricane Laura. As Laura began to get stronger her winds got more powerful and her pitch higher. at that moment I heard the piece of music in my ear I had played earlier on my harp and it push the sound of hurricane Laura out of my ear and I was calm, so was my daughter. She said to me mom I hear the harp! The prayer you play before hurricane Marco came in. That was a blessing that my beautiful harp came to our rescue. Because hurricane Laura sound like a demon screaming at the same time her winds was furious and crashing. Gob bless yall in Florida he was there with us for not just one hurricane but two. I was in Gulf County, FL when Hurricane Michael hit... the storm was horrible, but afterwards was even worse. It's been almost 4 years (Oct. 10, 2018) and Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, Tyndall Airforce Base, Callaway, and Panama City are STILL not completely recovered.

This is exactly what happened with Hurricane Isaac in 2012 when it stalled for a while and it lasted almost two days when it made land fall in New Orleans. Only difference is this hurricane here is a Catagory 4!!!

I spent a week on Anna Maria island just south of Tampa back I March...such a pretty island I can only imagine what this storm is doing to the place

I lived there for 25 years. I never saw one THIS big. Charlie was bad. Yes blue tarps on roofs for 2 years. All our home owner's ins went up after '04. Andrew in '92 was horrendous. They thought Floyd was going to be like this and we got nothing.

This, with alligators and poisonous snakes swimming everywhere is my worst nightmare(not kidding) I'm always amazed when people chose to live in these places. Not the people who are struck from poverty, but people that chose to build homes along the coast lines. I hope insurance insurance doesn't hassle people that are in need.
