Hey Josh, why didn't you just repair the leak on the old condensor coil? Sweat it, resolder it, etc. Then put some of that insulation tubing around it and call it a day?

If the joint was cracked I agree with derekeckhard8836, but if there was a hole in the condenser, then time to get a new condenser. IMO if the filter drier is installed before the service valves(upstream of them) and the leak is not in the condenser, then you do not have to replace the filter drier since it doesn't get exposed to the air. IMO, In that case, you just need to close the liquid line valve, pump the refrigerant into the condenser, being careful not to go over the coil test pressures, close the suction valve after you feel you've pumped as much refrigerant into the condenser as you're comfortable with, recover the remaining refrigerant, make the repair, pressure test for leaks with nitrogen. Then pull a vacuum with the aid of a micron gauge down to at least 750 microns, isolate the pump from the system using valve core removal tools installed on the service valves(always remove the valve cores when pulling a vacuum, it makes the process much faster), leave it sit for about 20 minutes and after that if the pressure doesn't rise over 1,000 microns, then you're good to go. Nice work, by the way. However, you didn't use nitrogen while you were brazing, which, IMO, is a must. Lots of copper oxide forms inside the lines when you don't use nitrogen, it could plug up the new filter drier or the metering device. Also, make sure the inner cone of that oxyacetylene flame is either neutral or carbonizing and not oxidizing( it shouldn't be pointy, this will tend to melt the copper).

Great video 🔥 just to clarify. There was a leak in the coil. That was causing the condenser to short cycle. Keep it up 👍

@Denis Vigil Thank you👊🏻. Yes that's correct. The leak caused it to have low pressures making the low pressure sensor cut it off when it starts and pulls down the suction.

I hope that the metering device is either a piston or a bleed type TXV if your pulling the vacuum from one line.

We will put the whole part into the water which help us to repair it easily. In some case, we will also use some thing which can make bubbles.

You said it doesn't cool during the day. Is it running during the day?

I had a unit I was repairing and it was doing the same thing you are saying. It would cool good at night, but not run at all during the day. The drain line was clogged up, so I vacuumed it out. That helped some what, but the drain line safety switch ended up being the main problem. It was inserted too far/tight into the safety switch orifice and would turn off the whole system when it had just a little condensation in the drain pan line

it’s very different way to repair the air conditioner. In China, we usual check where was the hole instead of renew the whole part. I also have an another question, how much the customer paid to repair the air conditioner 😂😂😂

Patching the hole seemed it would be a lot easier to my eye as well.
