71 year old Army here. I remember when Michael Jackson purchased the entire Beatles catalogue of music out from under Beatles songwriter/composer Paul McCartney. There were hard feelings between them afterwards. Paul and MJ had even collaborated on two songs together. However, there was not the fan blowback against Michael Jackson that there is against Scooter Braun and partners after the same sort of deal with the purchase of Taylor Swift's catalogue of music. The deal by MJ was perceived by us die hard Beatlemaniacs as a business deal and Paul McCartney was outbid. (He still doesn't own it. Sony Music does. MJ sold shares to Sony when he got into financial problems.) I don't see any reason to go crazy over Scooter Braun. He is CEO of Hybe America, not Hybe Korea. He has not done anything wrong to BTS members. People get way too worked up over imaginary things and things they know nothing about. Bang Si Hyuk is more savvy than fans think. He knew about Scooter Braun's history with Taylor Swift. He has been and always will be there for our Tannies. Thank you again for your great analysis! 💜

Thank you for this video. BTS are GROWN men with managers and business partners, of their choosing, as well as family members who can provide any guidance that they need. It amazes me that fans believe they actually have a say in what they do or how they do it. It is really overstepping and over reaching and needs to stop. If you choose to support an artist, it is your choice. You can also choose not to support an artist if you perceive they do not align with your views. The issue is people have not been able to force BTS to do what they want. As BTS continue to mature (some members will be in their 30s when their service ends), I hope they continue to do things they way they want in all aspects of their lives. I support them and their choices. Fans are not privy to everything and need to accept this.

Business is business... Hybe has to makes deals in order to grow and to stay efficient, stagnation is not good in this field. So I perfectly understand what they do. Like you said, being independant in a world scale is impossible, the cost would be astronomical... Well, nobody likes Scooter Braun - for a bunch a good reasons - but yeah, he's the CEO of Hybe US so he's part of the process. Those who shout to fire him have no idea of the reality. There is a contract, breaking it without a good reason (opinion - even the most disgusting - can't be the object of a termination. I'm an older person and fans never got so involved and worked up over internal works and labels of artist. I never remember an artist in my time being boycotted or hated because of someone their label or they worked with. I am not a cancel culture type person. People gang up knowing very little true information and it seems to make them feel some sort of power. I am not for that. There is SO much propaganda these days and a lot of it is untrue information. Why would I accept people I do not know or have trust in and try to cancel someone for something these people say. There has been so much miss-interpretation of the financial reports of K-pop companies, HYBE included, that I think it would be really great if you could do a video on the general state of the industry as a whole. As for Scooter Braun, he's no worse or better than most of the music executives in the States. I feel his vilification has been greatly exaggerated. Don't get me wrong, he's not a saint, but neither is he the devil incarnate. He does seem to have good connections in the US industry which ultimately is what Bang PD needs to go 'global', imo.

So many people forget the music business is a business. It is not about artists, it is not about fans, it is about money. Capitalism may not be political society for the world, but even socialist countries contribute and participate in capitalism. Especially if they do any business in the US. We all want the best for BTS, but we shouldn't blind us to the fact that the heart of it all is money. This is not a bad thing. The members are not altruistic at all, Yoongi has conveyed this multiple times - success is good. Money is good. No one can say Scooter is a good guy or a bad guy, he's a guy that has been successful in this game. He'll bring this success to BTS. When BTS is successful, they reach more people. Isn't that worth something?

On one hand people complain about how BigHit and HYBE manages and promotes their artists day in and day out and on the other hand they complain when they join hands with companies with more experience to help improve it. Which is it? I honestly have yet to see a decent argument against this deal or why this is bad for them except an anxiety that they will be taken advantage of and screwed over. But isn't that going to be the case with any distribution deal? Why would have things been different with Sony or Geffen Records? Do they have to do everything from scratch and isolate themselves? Do fans know better than people qualified to take these business decisions and BTS themselves? There is a difference between being a fan and protecting them and feeling entitled to make business decisions for them.

You don’t have the info bcse investments are private. However, in business merger deals (Ithaca became Hy Am), it’s not unusual that the former owners get shares in lieu of cash payments, so SB may have some few shares (BigPD owns 60+% of Hy shares,he’s the boss!), probably even less than B7S members do. SB is a qualified expert in the US music industry and the CEO of Hy Am, so he cud be a director due to it. But, BHM is independent from HY’s Board of Directors and shareholders; BTS has complete creative independence, as their soloist debut showed, no one can interfere with them. Still, Hy resources, incl SB, are there for them to use and benefit from. And why not? They,BigHit’s talented employees, and ARMY contributed greatly for BangPD to creare Hybe Corp

No one will ever convince me SB is anything but shady, underhanded, and a vindictive music exec with a bad reputation; for years, I’ve heard grumblings about him and studied enough about him over the years to feel comfortable saying so. And I’m referencing a history that goes beyond what he and TS’s label did to her. That man has left a trail of disgruntlement, accusations of stolen money by past artists of his, mistrust and ruined careers; and there are plenty of people in the industry, as well as would-be and past artists who can attest to that - though many have been afraid to speak out publicly BECAUSE of his vindictiveness in the industry. All I can say is thank God he has no control over the group and I hope he never gets his ‘hands’ on any of the other members in the group for their solo work. As for UMG, the CEO is directly embroiled in that dark mess with Diddy that has serious legal ramifications for HIM if he’s found to be complicit in the accusations against him. To say it’s not a great look for him is an understatement.

Wasn't BTS under UMG for a few years already and still streams were getting dumped and others were taking credit for BTS music here and there?

There is an argument to be made, that HYBE's joining hands with Scooter has costed BTS their first Grammy. Leaving Columbia to join UMG just before the award season, means that no one was campaigning for them and their nomination of "Dynamite". Because Columbia was not, and UMG did not. It was more profitable for UMG to campaign for their US based artists who were already winning a lot of local US awards: Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.
@ystrw
@ystrw 2 ай бұрын
That's stretching things. You notice that not only did they not get a grammy for Butter, they didn't even get nominations for 2023, despite ten submissions. It's not lack of lobbying or profits that's keeping the academy from awarding them, it's simply the fact that they're seen as inferiors by the US industry. They're K-pop and they're not American, so the most the academy is willing to do is try to use their popularity to get viewers...all the while insisting that the BTS phenomenon is a fad that will quickly pass. 🙄

@@HailToTheMeep I take your point: obviously when one doesn't have a campaign, one can't expect results. Kinda like the lottery: don't play, can't win. But my point is: it's impossible to say for sure whether the lack of campaign cost them a grammy, but the fact that they didn't win one when there *were* campaigns in their favor argues that a campaign for Dynamite would have brought the same results as campaigns for Butter, Like Crazy, Wildflower, Indigo, Face, D-Day, etc. IE, 'nope.' The Academy is too heavily influenced by the people in the industry who see BTS as a threat and want nothing to do with awarding them. That's why BB shut down their Social Artist prize before BTS could set a new record for wins.

Campaign for the Grammys, is buying votes from those who vote, something BTS abhor. It’s about dinning, partying and gifting individuals (peer artists), qnd parading BTS members as show pieces Most who vote are old generation US artists nominees and have no exposure to new music. Generally, Grammy voters vote for their friends in the industry, always US goes first, so, not necessarily for the best, with some exception of course I don’t expect BTS to win a Grammy, unless it’s a collab and even then. I’m OK, as I’d rather they don’t get involved in the “dirty dancing “ that takes place pre-awards

@@ArmantoAlex13Pls, SB isn’t any worse than most US artist managers, we know nothing about bcse they aren’t as successful in turning artists into mega starts, like SB did for Justin, Ariana and Taylor, to name a few US music industry is a cut throat, survival of the strongest industry; no much different from K-pop, from the latter BangPD and BigHit Music were different, so Hy is different. But, they have to also learn from SB to survive in the US as a business enterprise. Meanwhile, BTS are well protected in BHM, plus they have 10+ of experience surviving in the K-pop cruel jungle+master degrees in business management; no worries there

Scooter Braun has a very bad reputation, no one is perfect but he seems to have no ethics whatsoever and will step on anyone for his own gain… this is problematic because fans of hybe artists have view bang Sihyuk the opposite for many many years. That said, we don’t know these people personally and Bang Sihyuk could be just as horrible as Scooter Braun or even worse

I really got a bad feeling about this but who am I to judge, what happens I hope boys won't suffer from it. I don't understand if Mr. Bang is really desperate for Grammys or more power. I really don't like were this is going. Scooter is not someone u can put trust in, I saw what he wanted to do with Zayn Malik after he left One direction but glad he skipped that trap.

@@NaswidaNalunjogiif you truly understand what she is saying, conjecture about Bang PD, you don’t know business. He created a multi billion dollar entertainment company with BTS, why would he not do his due diligence to prevent him to lose everything that the guys helped him build. Make no mistake, Bang PD and BTS members as well as HYBE are not stupid.

@@Mairage the thing that I don't understand is from the beginning Scooter said he only wanted Jk not the band even though they are very talented so now what makes u think that he is a good person what made him change his mind . But all in all we are just fans, our role is just support them so am not urging, I just got a bad feeling and it's ok.

People are really being manipulated to hate Scooter by the media and Taylor Swift. When will people realize her father was one of the owners of the company that sold her record and made $16+ mil from it? Scooter is just a business man.

You do realise don't you that if he didn't own Taylor Swift's record he couldn't have sold them. He was never sued because they belonged to him. Swift was the one behaving like spoilt brat she knew her father owned her music and he sold that to Scooter so he then legally owned it. She never owned any of it. She should have got a lawyer look at her contract before deciding to sign thinking it didn't matter if so she's stupid. But she wanted to cause problem and have a hissy fit instead.

I think they were smart to stick with youtube and spotify and soundcloud. I'm sorry to hear they have branched out to Disney ,( I loved permission to dance, but their own filming of concerts were much better IMHO.) amzon prime, for J hope and youtube, I hope this works out for J hope and perhaps Big Hit won't need universal. What I don't like about youtube is all the censorship on educational things like sheep farming and how many times adults can swear, in the USA, but that's not youtubes fault. again, censorship laws are still nuts in the USA. My fear is BTS will get involved with pay for play on radios and such. IT is illegal, if you prove it. I don't think BTS needs any of this stuff. And from what I have seen, not much of K-pop of now is ever going to make it USA, they are just not that good. Scooter is why they lost money in USA. Taylor Swift has as much pull here as BTS does. What Scooter did to Taylor was really bad . She let it go public, her swifties went to bat and boycotted him. Lots of ARMY's support Swift as they do Halsey, so he is getting a lot of hate from multiple places. It's well deserved IMHO but I don't like the cancel stuff that happens. Give bad people enough rope and they usually hang themselves.

Why would BTS pay for Payola now after all these years? If they do, they would've started with the English songs. If you actually do some research, you will find out Taylor Swift, and the media manipulated her fans. The media loved her, and they made it seem like she was the victim. Her dad was one of the owners of the company that sold her record to Scooter. Scooter was just doing a business deal, and anyone who understands business would realize that. There was no way she didn't know about it since her father made $16+ mil from it. People have been brainwashed by media like what they did to Britney Spear.

Scooter did nothing wrong. Taylor never owned her music the label did. The label can sell a artist work.

The real problem with YT- apart from censoring comments- is that YT freezes and deletes BTS views. We all know this platform's ridiculous rules for what counts as a view, but what they don't tell us is that they only allow Y views per person, per 24 hours, before they stop counting the views that person brings. Some say you get five views of a video (every 15 minutes, of course) and then no more will be counted; some say it's more, or less. I think the number of views depends on how popular the video is. That is, the more people are watching it, the fewer of their views are counted. And I know for a fact that YT has put barriers in place to prevent videos from reaching a certain number of views within a certain amount of time. For example, say they don't want a video exceeding 10M views in 12 hours. So, once it does reach 10M, it rolls back to 8 or 9M, and then freezes there. Once it's been 12 hours, they unfreeze it and allow it to reach 10M. Now they don't want it passing 15M views in 18 hours, so when it does, they freeze it again and delete it back to 13 or 14M. This results in a views-per-hour that looks like stair-steps instead of like a smooth rising line /... and that's exactly what's happened to almost all of the guys' releases during the solo era. It took 'Like Crazy' three days to pass the 30M mark because it kept being pushed back to 28 and 29M; it happened again at 50M; it's happened with Butter, as soon as that one crossed the 900M count. (YT REALLY does not want another BTS song to cross a billion; Butter and BS&T are both having views deleted.) So I wish Big Hit would haul off YT and make more use of their own platform, Weverse. Leave enough here to get people interested, like the MV teasers and Run episodes and such, but host their music where they can monitor the views/streams for themselves.
