Fortunately a hydro locked sprinter van engine is not the end all be all of your sprinter van. In this video I'm going to show you how to fix your hydro locked sprinter van that has symptoms of black death.

Clay, YOU are really one hell of a great Mechanic!!! Oh, and I've ordered new nylon fuel lines for my 2003 Mazda tribute... I'll keep you posted! Then I gotta do coil packs and plugs, and the PCV valve... the back half, already did the easy ones... You inspire me, man... many moons ago, I was a jet engine mech, in the Marine Corps, but got away from my roots... your pulling me back!

That’s an awesome comment to wake up to in the morning but I’m just like everyone else and I’m sure I’m just like you. We all have abilities and we all can do anything that we want. That doesn’t mean that we should be doing it but we all can do anything. And believe it or not Tom about two decades ago I was sure I was not going to be working on cars anymore. How about removing glow plugs first. Turn motor and see which injector is causing the issue as diesel fuel comes out of that hole. You are a major credit to our trade. Thank you for your videos!

I like that idea at the time I certainly didn’t consider it until you said something but that does sound like that may be possible the problem with removing the glow plugs is. They like to break off. In my situation I knew for certain I would not break anything that would cost me a lot of money taking the Intakes out but of course it’s a tremendous amount of work worth it if it works or not if it don’t but then again they would have to come out anyways if you ended up having a locked up seized motor

when did you move to Muskegon? I'm in Muskegon. where are you located?

I moved to Muskegon a couple of months ago I want to say back in March when my contract was up with Accurate Engines I really did not know what Lanny was about before I went there. No I’m over in Muskegon because it’s fairly cheap. I just hate the location that I’m at in Muskegon. I’m constantly worried about my stuff getting stolen. If you ever need something just reach out to me on clays AC and auto repair on the Facebook messenger and send me a DM I don’t give my information out over KZfaq because then people start showing up unexpected and I’m generally not about that kind of life any longer I ran a retail repair facility for about 20 years now I’m very picky and choosy who I do work for.

Have a sprinter that just cut out while driving smell of clutch when it stopped engine won't turn over took off gear box to check clutch and flywheel both need replace tho engine won't turn over , when I turn the key it rotates a slight bit and then as if the battery is dead it stops and clicks I can do this a few times and it does the same clicking and dash lights go out any ideas?

Well, you got two separate issues your battery’s dead. And it’s quite possible that your engine is locked up spin it backwards at this point it doesn’t matter see if you can get it freed up.

@The Clay Way thanks dude tried spinning back ways won't move at all going to try remove starter and see if it moves its weird as van was starting and driving fine (I knew clutch and flywheel was on the way out) until I was driving and then it felt like the van was getting pulled backwards until I pulled in and killed the ignition no warnings no noise no smoke no overheating im lost 🙈🤷‍♂️ think it will be a lighter and blow torch job 😂

😂😂😂. Well, let’s avoid that lighter for right now ,Pull the drive shaft. Then that way if it is the clutch, it should still start. Right now it’s trying to move. The whole vehicle would be my guess but if that was the case I would have to think it would turn the engine over and you could feel the van rolling a little bit. Sorry to hear that. I hope it’s not a blown motor that’s not common with those vehicles. It’s also not coming for them to have manual transmissions in them so that’s crazy too I mean if we’re talking about a sprinter of course or something with a 3.0.

Probably pretty good. I removed my Intakes, to unseat is mine I would remove the fuel injectors more than likely it’s going to be cylinder one or two on the driver side…. There are the ones that I most commonly see leak

Well that’s the direction I’m heading in after the holiday. I’m going to pull the injector and see what I find. Another shop changed the starter but left the original battery in there.

Ya that would be a easy mistake to make . Changing the starter , if I hadn’t knew I would have thought that at first too …..
