John McDougall is the most respected doctor who treats patients with food as medicine. I wish all doctors in the world would follow his rules

This is the best explaination of blood pressure and all that's involved that I think I've ever heard in my life. I have a much better understanding now. Very helpful info.

Great information! I wish more doctors knew their business. Sad that they just want to medicate their patients. I’ve been WFPB for 5 years and I am in perfect health except my BP goes up at doctor’s office or with stress from work. My doctor put me on a beta blocker but now I am rethinking this thanks to Dr. McDougall’s lecture. More doctors need to watch this!

Terrific information! Dr. Mcdougall tells it like it is, with no monetary bias concerns. The drug companies are in business to make money for stockholders; of course the drugs you’ve been prescribed do not heal you. That’s bad for business. I’m getting off the merry-go-round!

I am 66 and dropped my blood pressure in about 10 days from 170/84 to 122/66. It steadily dropped during that time. The only thing I changed was diet - especially reducing sodium AND oil. I think I must have been eating well over 4000- 5000 mg a day of sodium, depending. During the 10 day time period I ate a lot of Wild Rice, Potatoes (No oil) and some beans. I also made home made Cabbage stew with mostly cuciferous veggies and a few carrots. Sometimes I mixed potatoes. I should also mention that I have been a vegetarian, bordering closely with being vegan, plant based for a few years. On and off for 15 years. I eat very little animal fat, eggs a couple times a week sometimes. Other times I go for weeks without animal fats. I rarely eat cheese, but will have a slice on occasion. But it is vegan cheese. (Still has oil). I also love hash browns and make them whenever I have eggs. I typically use oil. But, I also had been eating a lot of crunchy snacks, like potato Chips, corn chips and such. Plus, I would eat 4- 5 bean burritos a day from Taco Bell. So, just being vegan does not mean you are necessarily healthy. Recently I started putting my shredded potatoes in the oven and, surprisingly, they taste pretty good. Of course I must add salt, or they are not so good. It is really hard because all the food tastes like cardboard without salt. Lately I have added about 1000 mg a day just so I can enjoy the food. It seems like this is OK. But, when I first started the diet I added no salt to anything. I also take berberine, Olive leaf, Cayene pepper, vitamin D, tumeric, gingerroot , garlic and vegie based Omegas as supplements.

So informative. How can you get a doctor to prescribe something like clorathalidone rather than the others?

You can ask your doctor to prescribe chorothalalidone. I been on it. It is helpful.

In the morning my blood pressure is 160 over 90. After I workout later in the day it is 125 over 70. My doc has me on BP meds because of the 160 over 90. Not sure what I should be doing.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? This is often the cause of high BP in the morning particularly

@@manzandz yes...I have severe sleep apnea and I sleep with a cpap machine... often wonder if the BP meds actually do anything?...I wonder if Dr. Mcduogall would take me off them? Probably won't get a chance to ask him or anyone on his wave length.

Is it always that elevated in the morning? I've read things about morning hypertension in the science journals.

@@allencrider yes...for decades...I'm overweight, but I'm in pretty good shape...at 65...bike riding, kiteboarding, swimming...it's kind of scary thinking about taking yourself off BP meds...even though I don't think they actually do anything...my PCP is of no help

@@evanlouis8853 I have severe Sleep apnoea also, and I am not obese or overweight, can't tolerate any BP meds I have tried several and the last one gave me a severe side effect which triggered fibromyalgia and CFS. Plant based diet and CPAP have not helped to reduce the BP either. Don't know what to do??
