This is the best series of videos I've seen on how to develop a program with volume considerations. Its explained very well. Ive been weight lifting for 27 years and its great to still learn better ways to train.

Not necessarily. Ideally you start below the MAV (MRV) and build up to the MAV over the course of a few weeks

God I wish this series was around when I started lifting. Best breakdown of work needed to grow I've listened to. Really easy to follow and helpful for creating your own programming.
@DCJayhawk57

Heavy high rack pulls, heavy cheat rows, weighted pullups, unilateral variations (Meadows row, dumbbell row), occasional cable vertical pull (such as neutral grip lat pull). If you do each of these types of movements once per week you'll get all the stimulus you need to continually grow (that is, if you're intermediate or advanced; beginners should stick with a simpler setup with linear periodization). I split volume & intensity into separate days as well as upper & lower, so it's 4 days a week overall. Examples of my back work: Intensity upper - include heavy cheat rows and weighted pullups Intensity lower - include high rack pull after deadlifts Volume upper - include unilateral variations and cable assistance work, but most weeks do a barbell rowing movement at least Volume lower - back is hit as a stabilizing muscle group (when performing any of the lower body exercises I include) That's 3+ days a week of back work and when overall volume is managed and exercises rotated, you can make continued progress without plateaus. If you're a natural lifter, you have to focus on continually getting stronger to get back development. Bodybuilding style pump work has shown little effect in my experience. I did that shit for years and saw hardly any results. I just didn't realize how strong and resistant the back is relative to other body parts when it comes to growth (for those not in the genetic elite). If you have access, might I add that any strongman movement is great for back development (unconventional pulls, log clean and press, keg carries, farmer's walk, etc.). I'm at a commercial gym but I'd love to someday train with these implements.

I’m curious what rep ranges your using, how close your getting to failure, and what your form looks like. If your using proper form and high relative effort and still recovering from that many sets your a statistical outlier to a pretty extreme degree.
