Since your repair was edited out, I assume you replaced the regulator. Fuel coming out of the vacuum hose is caused by a bad valve seal or hole in the diaphragm. Having the same issue with a caterpillar but not fuel injected just a lot of residue in the regulator with 8k hours. Looses power at W.O.T. I hope replacing the regulator solves the problem. Actually i could not open the regulator apart as the screws were all rounded out. So I asked the customer if he wanted a new one. But, after the fact yes there was a hole on the diaphram letting the propane into the intake unmetered.

Does the forklift you are working on have an o2 sensor?

Couldn't you have tested the fading fuel pressure with an analog gauge instead of using the scope?

This is a great channel! I’m actually leaving a GM automotive dealer that I’ve been at for 5 years as a technician to become a field service forklift technician. I’ve never worked on a forklift in my life and I’m a little nervous about it. I was ready for a change and the 8-5 Monday through Friday was appealing also no flat rate pay. They know I have no experience working on forklifts but I am capable of engine and electrical troubleshooting which I assume why they hired me. My question is do you think this is a good career to be in? Can you make a good living?

+Jeremy Clark yes it is a good career to be in. Like you its not flat rate lots of companies right now are dying for techs. A lot of senior techs are retiring with only a few entering the trade. Pay depends on who you work for and what you can do but electrical and electronics is key.

ForkliftGeek I live in Athens Ga . The forklift company is small for as employees but they have customers all over north east Ga and are very busy they say. I will be provided a van, cell phone and gas card which seems to be typical of a field service tech.

The automotive dealer I’m working at now is freaking out because they know how hard it is to find a good technician. I am the youngest and the only diesel tech they have. They offered me more money to stay but I want to see what’s out there that require the same technical skill sets. And hope it’s better then working in automotive

This is LPG fuel? Have not seen one with fuel rail injection yet.

Roger Thomas I believe he said he replaced the LPG regulator

+Roger Thomas sorry if it was not clear. The propane regulator was faulty and had to replace it.

OK, thanks. I just missed it I guess. I'm surprised it started with that much extra gas getting in. Great channel.

+Roger Thomas because I could not see the long term fuel trim only the short term, I'm guessing at idle the long term would be negative because of the extra fuel into the intake but at higher load even the unmetered fuel was not enough because the fuel rail was not getting enough pressure. What's weird is that the check engine light was not on.

Hi .. Do you perhaps know where i can get an Engine Manual for a Mazda VA engine. I would like to find out what the spark plug gap and the Points gap should be. I have a 1989 Hyster H1.75 XL. I am having backfire problems.. Thank you.

Point gap is 0.016 to 0.020 in. Plug gap is 0.028 to 0.032 in.

Its actually the diaphragm that is ripped inside the regulator. That hose is connected from the regulator to the intake manifold, so when propane is introduced into the regulator it leaks propane directly into the manifold.
