I think that engine audio feedback actually assists with driver control of the vehicle, as it gives you non visual queues as to the power and speed being applied to the vehicle. Thus, I actually think that feature has a very practical benefit. I suggest it improves driver situational awareness of the performance state of the vehicle. It essentially functions as a driver feedback reinforcement mechanism, which I think could help improve driver confidence and control. Basically providing a better feel and driving experience for the vehicle.

During snow/low mju driving, hearing and controlling the amount of wheel slip with 'gears' will be crucial to make controlled progress in an EV.

The valid criticisms he makes of "electric cars" are really valid criticisms of Tesla. Elon prefers a stiff ride and does not place a lot of value in good dampening. He values acceleration and top speed but not braking and handling.

Good review sir. It will be interesting to see how many they can sell at the price.

Pointless, shallow review, look at car enthusiast’s as an example. I still don’t know anything about the car!

OMG! So are "fake" exhausts coming to EVs next?

Maybe. Don't see how this is any worse than Mercedes using speakers on their new c63 cuz it's got a 2 liter.

In isolation, these cars are very fast and handle well. In the real world, you are faced with very poor charging infrastructure not to mention the many caveats of charging the battery and driving the car for maximum efficiency.

Mortgage lenders are rubbing their hands together 😂 To be crystal clear, I'd love to have one, but not at that price. It's 20-25k over what it should be priced at IMHO

You mentioned the power several times. Why didn't you mention its weight? You should have done $ per kilogram. It's a bus. At the end of the day, it's slower on a track than a Civic Type R.

Reality is most people don’t buy cars to track them. Where the light weight of the car really shines is on a track. A type R will only be faster in very specific settings such as a track. This thing will smoke 99% cars on the road where it will spend most of its life. Let’s be honest most people who buy type Rs also will end up using it on the road most of its life. Myself for an instance have only tracked my i20n once in the 2 years of ownership.. most other people I know have not even tracked theirs. And contrary to your belief, I have seen this thing on the track myself. The weight is well mitigated by the instant power and torque available on tap. No car that weighs 2 tonnes will ever be ideal for track use.. in saying that because the car’s chassis and suspension is tuned right and it has so much instant power and torque, it was still able to excel on the track. Change is inevitable. Whether you like it or not, electrification is where there future is. I too much prefer petrol cars but times are changing and that’s that. Personally I think it’s an awesome car for they made an electric car that’s actually fun and akin to a petrol performance car in the way it drives. Anyone (even the Chinese companies) can make an electric car fast in a straight line. Not anyone however can make one fun to drive and be usable on a race track. This car is desirable even for someone who doesn’t want an electric car. Problem is its high price tag.

"Driving Enthusiast" has a great review on this car. A far more honest take on the pros/cons (and experience when driving it hard) compared to the generic Hyundai marketing department type reviews

No ya numb nut. On the Nurburgring, 5N is about 3 seconds faster than the Type R, which wasn’t even stock. Look it up.

@@bigdi77there isn’t because he’s lying. There is video of 5N lapping the Nurburgring faster than non stock type R.
