Hyundai Kona Traction motor replacement! Electric engine replacement!

9 ай бұрынThis was replaced due to a fault in the traction motor causing it to over heat when charging.
Mcu live data was reading 590000 when it should be under 20!
After extensive high voltage testing we came to the conclusion the traction motor was the cause and got it replaced and running within the same day for the customer to take it away 💪

Was this caused by a coolant leak internal to the motor that caused a loss of insulation resistance? Or was it a coolant blockage due to the prior BSC1 fitted? And when you drained the reduction gear oil, was it black?

I am unsure on what caused the traction motor to fail. There was 100% no coolant blockages, and the reduction gear oil looked fairly clean tbh.. I’m hoping warranty doesn’t want the old unit back so I can do a video on the strip down and find out what caused it

@@owensautotips interesting. It would be brilliant if you can do a stripdown on the motor, even if it's just removing the tail-end cover, which would reveal the bearing that is also known to fail.

I will try my best to get hold of it, normally waiting period for warranty to claim it back is 3 months after that it’s scrap

Dude , you can easily remove the safety plug without removing the back seat. Just lift the seat in the front and you can access the cover and plug from there. I also disconnect the interlock plug before doing the safety plug.

Thanks for the input but In my opinion I would rather remove the rear seat than risk damaging the customers car. Not much difference in which you disconnect first. As the interlock is basically for working in the bonnet. High voltage kills the system completely
