It feels like whenever Viz doesn't cover an older or lesser-known series, Dark Horse swoops in to do it themself, which makes me respect them more because of how unique their selection is.

I checked this out on your recommendation and finished volume 1 in a single sitting. I found the whole story engaging and detailed. I love the subtle hints that something sinister is coming about. I love that you get to know who this guy is before tragedy strikes, it made it that much more impactful for me. I'm now starting volume 2 and am excited to enjoy this whole series. I really needed something this good.

the ONLY comic book collection I have is the paperback books of the walking dead. If this gives off ANY twd vibes, this will DEFINITELY be my go to zombie manga FOR GOOD.

what you mean not many splash page, Kengo Hanazawa is amazing in splash page! I've to admit, I enjoy a more pleasure by reading it on an iPad than a book with gutter, cause his artwork and sequential pages are awesome!

Since then, have been looking for another series to become lost in. Because of this video, just bought all eleven volumes of ‘. I Am A Hero ‘ ! I'm just starting the series & I LOVE it. I was a little confused about the bridge scene after the mixer. We're his friends actually there with him or was he talking to himself? Because if you look at some of the panels, his friends or coworkers aren't there.

I just got into this series and own chapter 2,3,4 and I can’t find any that isn’t madly overpriced or yellow still a great story!!!

I remember purchasing an otaku magazine with the first chapter of this in it.

I was thinking about buying these but it looks like quite a few of them are out of print and going for 50+ dollars. Would it potentially be worth it to wait for deluxe editions on these, or are these versions going to be reprinted?

this is the problem with this manga...its so good, once you read any other media on zombie apocalypse's you immediately feel disappointed because kengo set the Standard too high...this manga is amazing....

I gathered these up for very cheap overstock over the past few months. I finally read volume 1 last month and boy was it hard to get through until zombies actually started happening. But damn that protagonist is horrifically unlikeable. I'm glad to hear he grew on you because I really hated him in that first volume. I'll be continuing and hoping he grows as a character!

I have finished reading the manga and I hate it. Spoilers on the story regarding why I hate it: Not only the protagonist makes s@x with his friend (a minor girl) and let's her drink alcohol anyway, the final of the manga left me with more questions than answers. The zombie infection turns out to originate from aliens/ outer space, the infectious have their minds connected and they can feel through touch the same thing the other feels for some unexplained reason, the infectious need a queen who is minor some some odd reason in order to asimilate all life forms from earth into a single being, the second protagonist (that minor girl with black hair whose name I don't remember) has a 180 degrees character change out of nowhere where she wanted to kill that short blond hair girl who saved her live because...I am not making this up...that blond girl wanted to run away from her friends because she was pregnant (I don't know whose child was) and didn't want to be a burden or slow them down because their lives were already very hard with just the three of them, and that black hair girl thought she was selfish. Like wtf!? She SAVED YOUR LIFE and was WORRIED about you two! The final chapters of the manga felt like a big F*CK YOU to the readers because the author haven't explained ANYTHING that caused the infection, and maybe you will think this is not a big deal since other franchises haven't explained the source of the infection but is different with "I am a hero". Is different with "I am a hero" because in a chapter, a infected person who was reduced to a talking head with legs (read the manga because I am not making this up) narrates what through what he sees what happens in Barcelona during the "zombie" invasion, and IS JUST INSANE!! I think only "Resident Evil" with its gigantic as buildings zombies might be similar to what I saw while reading this chapter. Also in this chapter is explained that all infected people have their minds so connected that you can understand anyone without learning their language, you don't realize you are a zombie because you see others including yourself look like normal people for some reason, the goal of the infection is to asimilate every life form, the infection comes outside the planet Earth....yeah....they need a queen which I don't see the point here since they clearly showed up they do not need one, nor why she is twice depicted as a minor in the story...and that those who are imune to the infection are always man for some reason, gain super powers, only ear briefs, can asimilate others imune to the infection and comunicate with other infected people through their minds. None of them are explained how or why. While reading the first volume it was hard for me to stick to the story but I wanted to give it a second chance and see how the story goes. The story past volume one was good, there were moments from the manga which I liked, but everything went downhill when the story was approaching the end. I hate almost everything what happened towards the final, which is why I would give "I am a hero" a 3/10.

Read first 2 volumes from local library. Thoughts the story was just ok, and didn't like the protagonist (too ugly, too weak), so planned not to buy but finish from library. But reading along, I found myself enjoying it more, and was actually looking forward to next volume come out to read more. After volume 5 or 6, I started to buy all of them to collect. Now plan to wait until all volumes come out and re-start from volume 1 to finish all in one reading.

I have the first 6. I can’t get 7 or 8 anywhere and I want to finish this so bad. I’m so mad that I can’t . 😢😡😢😡

I might sound crazy, but I wouldn't mind if Berserk had these 3-1/2-1 Omnibus paperback editions.

So far as the intensity of post apocalyptic horror comics, Crossed hasn’t yet been beat, for me that is. It’s just so damn heavy.

It was promising, but I got tired of it when they reach the mall, and stopped reading it. Nonetheless, nice review.

I love I am a hero. But I recommend everyone start at chapter 13. The beginning of this is horribly drawn out.

'Really boring, drawn out story...' You take that way back to the beginning and dump it. It all plays a relevant part into the themes of individualism and collectivism. the hyper detailed art style draws you into Hideo's obsessive perspective, it's transitions you from his delusions to the uncanny surrealism the infected give off. it's drawn out and detailed because that's what real life is life. The pacing doesn't actually change, you as the reader just start to feel like they are because they're more eventful because, well they are. You're actually still experiencing Hideos life in the same minute to minute, hour to hour, pace that you were before Also, the art style is literally nothing like tekkonkinkreet, I physically cringed at that point.

Sadly the series won't be available shortly, because the japanesse publisher (Shogakugan) lost the manga rights. It is a shame because this edition was really worthy.
