I AM FAR AWAY - A Curious Journal, Bound in Yellow Goatskin

A book bound from much inspiration, stemming from many places. It was born from a fascination of primitive artworks, 15 century binding techniques and our own reimagination of combining different materials. It is a color I've not used before. This book is ancient in a way. Paying homage to the sun, to our ancestors, to our consciousness. "I Am Far Away" because when looking at the book I am not here.
I am astounded at how my father beautifully combined his knowledge of wood and metal on these wonderful fittings. They are made with three layers, the first and last being sterling silver, while the center is a thinned down ebony plank. The color of the patinated and matted silver combines excellently with the dark ebony. The book wouldn't be complete without this set of corners and its clasp, they truly balance the condensed decoration of this bright yellow book. It is something we haven't done before.
Another novelty are the lino printed endpapers, again from an original design and using the handmade paper from the binder. The red arches compliment the red leather highlights such as the saddle-stitched endbands and the complex knot at the end of the spine extension. A reimagining of the medieval girdle book but the extension going from the spine, instead of the covers.

This book is one of your best, such details and beautiful craftmanship. Just love the inside of the book with these red pages; looks like you would enter a magical and holy place, and take you on such great voyage to far away places in time and space. The pen is for me the detail that makes the book and writing tool so marvelous. They are unique and the one who will purchase these is truly a lucky and tasteful individual. I wish to own one of your masterpiece someday. Fabulous work as usual my friend. Happy Holidays from Canada Stopan!

Jesus Christ, that's beautiful! I've seen some books, where if you part the edges of the pages to a certain angle, it reveals a picture, almost like a hidden message or something, I think it's called fore-edge painting? Not sure if you've considered doing it before, but I think it would be a great addition to your work!
@fakiirification
@fakiirification 3 жыл бұрын
yeah, some of those are amazing. gilt edge when closed, but when open to a certain angle you see an image of a cathedral or some other symbology. does not seem that hard to do on the surface. need to have some sort of jig to hold the pages at that angle so you can paint or draw consistently.

It's really one of our favourites too! At first, I was a bit too shocked of the bright yellow color of the leather and felt uneasy. I'm more used to less signaling colors. Only now am I working on another book that is going to be predominantly yellow again. But this time I'm a bit more prepared for the effect.

@@Stopan I think it worked out wonderfully. Has a very distinct feeling to it that is childish and magical but somehow traditionally beautiful at the same time.
