Hello everyone, in this video, I'll be discussing a topic that is EVERY Guitarist's Worst Nightmare is getting injured. Unfortunately, I've been dealing with tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, for quite some time now. This situation causes Guitarist PAINS! and Guitar Player Problems, but I've discovered some effective ways to manage and prevent injuries as a guitarist. In this video, I'll be sharing my tips on how to warm up properly, the best exercises for warm-up, and how to get faster in just a few seconds by changing your guitar position. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, this video is a must-watch for anyone who wants to avoid injuries and improve their guitar playing skills.

This is very important content! Thank you so much.💪💪💪 Many of people teach how to play fast but not many of them teach how to play fast on the long term, maintaining arm health!

Oz get well soon, I had a close friend who I new back in NYC who was both an incredible bassist/guitarist who overplayed & got a case of tendonitis which left him without the use of his right arm, it took a long time to regain use of his right arm & the stretches that you covered I learned them from John Petrucci from his Rock Discipline. Much thanks covering this area so that guitarists don't injure themselves needlessly. Take care!

When it hurts please stop. I have had a 1/2 dozen Cortisone injections and 3 surgeries on my elbows. 2 surgeries on my left chording hand and 1 surgery on my right. 7 or so years later I'm starting to play again. When it hurts please stop and see a MD immediately. Good luck brother. Be careful !😊

Great video and thanks for sharing. I hope that you are able to manage your injury, is there hope in your case that it ever goes away completely, or is this something you will have to watch forever? However in my case I have ligament (I think?) issues around the middle knuckle of my left ring finger which is from string bending. I am working on my wide vibratos (a-la Brandon Ellis) and I have seemed to at some point tweaked or inflamed something, or perhaps is is just some old nagging thing... Ice makes it feel better but do you have any other advice for painful ligaments in finger(s)?
@OzzGuitar
@OzzGuitar Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Just go to a doctor who has proficiency on hands and get psychotherapy. It will make your recovery faster. If you can’t; If ice works for you it sounds like inflammation. Try to stretch a lot, massage as much as you can and rest your arm✌️

I had a problem with the tendons from my thumb to my wrist. With my fretting hand, it was because I was gripping the neck way too tight as well as over-stretching. Unfortunately, I have small hands as well. I really envy these guys with fingers like spider legs. I started having the same problem with my right hand because I'd get a death grip on my pick. I got cortisone shots into both tendons and that took care of it. I improved my technique and haven't had a problem since. Even before my tendon problems, I've always had a good stretching and warm-up routine including joint rotations of my fingers and wrists to get the joints nice and lubricated. In the years since I've done the whole routine, I haven't had a problem even if I do marathon practice sessions of like 6--8 hours at a time. Get well soon Oz and rock on!

I am far to 6 hours of sessions now but I’m hoping to get there. I am lucky that I have a guitarist hand surgeon friend. Because I was told tendonitis for both hands but it was tennis elbow. Thank you!🤘🤘🤘

@@OzzGuitar I guess I got lucky. It was just a quick needle into the wrists and I was good to go. Luckily being Canadian it didn't cost me a dime. Get well soon my friend. Love your stuff by the way. I've worked religiously on getting down the Paganini piece from Crossroads. Still have some polishing to do but it's getting there.

I do agree with the basic positioning "between the legs" when playing in seated position. One of these modern headless designs "Strandberg style" would be even better. And I do agree about the angling of the neck. Definitiely should be angling up - I tend to play at around 45 degree angle. Basically the guitar positioning should be closer to how most people position it when palying standing upright with a strap ... and I don't mean the metal-cool-look with the guitar hanging low somewhere near the knees ^^ Andre Fludd has a lot of good stuff on ergonomics of playing guitar in a seated position.

Most of them laughed at Petrucci's video when he warms up his hands and arms.. Anyway, it happened to me when I was taking arpeggios from hell and the fuzz universe cd.. a puncture on the back of the palm and like numbness.. luckily they were some inflamed tendons not damaged from this 2 years ago already. I hope you recover soon! take it easy and hit the slopes again! a hug!

Master thanks for the video. I think streching is the most important part. Got tendinitis before. I gave 5 minutes to this every time. And not have any problem after that. But just for a feedback to warm up I am playing testament or master of puppets riff downpicking licks to warm up my right hand.

Guys, take this topic seriously. Focus on taking all physical tension out of your hands. Practice with relaxed hands. Stretch regularly your hands and forearms (in general stretching all muscle groups is healthy and beneficial). Dont practice wide stretchy stuff for too long at a time. Try to get these kinda things down in short to medium high focus practice sessions (20-60min)and take regular breaks. If you get just a slight hint of pain or it being to much just stop immediatly and take a break. You can always come back to practice but if you injure yourself you are out of order for a longer time period so take care.
