Duck tape often comes in handy when clients talk a lot, interrupt your work with a multitude of questions and concerns, or even offer you to use their tools. I use it to tape their mouth shut! Otherwise, I rarely use it and have fixed so many dryer duct vents held together with brittle duck tape before.

Love that subject! Never thought we'd need so many types until we moved to the countryside lol In my experience with painter's tape, Frog tape can stay there ages (I mean years, I know I still have some up from 2019 and tested but it didn't rip anything last week) and not leave residue. Much cleaner line, just make sure to pass over it with a straight metal tool after application. You barely get a few weeks with 3M and it peels off your paint even after the instructed waiting time. Oh and it will rip the varnish off wood as well unlike Frog tape. Totally worth the extra money! But 3M is great to bundle stuff together! One super helpful tape in my house is No Residue 3M. Says it will stick stuff for 6 months without residue, but it lasts even longer. I use it on so many things and cables, it's great stuff and sticks well. Even works outside for a season before drying out but still will not leave residue. For kickass holding power, we only use Siga brand, it's European and expensive but even the non-weatherproof version has held 2 folded feet from the bottom of our outdoor garage (temporary shelter plastic material) for 5 years now! Normal weather-proof American tapes couldn''t even do a season.

Here’s a few thoughts and tips: -Tuck tape is the only tape that I’ve found to stick to 6 mil plastic. (Red) - The last red tape you showed I believe is Tesa tape - same stuff they use to tape items on new appliances- good abrasion resistance. - I’ve found the foil tape - especially the cold application type very helpful- amazing tack and won’t leave a residue if left in sun for a few days or more • great for small tuck point jobs • holding items in place while installing or while a glue is setting • FYI: most painful “paper” cut - I’d rather hit my thumb with hammer on a cold day! 😖

I use body shop grade automotive masking tape for almost everything non-permanent. Unlike duct tape you can usually remove the tape with no glue left behind a year or more later, and it’s super sticky and strong. Love your videos Shannon, you’re awesome 👏🏼

Great. I learned recently that there's also brown painters tape that costs a lot less than the blue & green (when fit for purpose). I have the hardest time with plumbers tape, in case you have feed back there? I need to KZfaq using it to get it right!

8:14 The brand I'm familiar with for butyl tape you wouldn't be able to touch it and get your fingers away as easily as you did. The stuff Henry's makes, FortiFlash. That stuff is absolutely unforgiving. That's why people call it bitchathane.

I noticed with the blue painters tape you shouldn't buy the cheap brand EVER. That crap falls off your wall real fast. It's a nightmare. Also, I thought it was called duct tape and duck tape was just a brand. Interesting!
@markarita3
@markarita3 11 ай бұрын
You're absolutely correct, it IS called duct tape, and "duck" is definitely a brand name of it - which (in my opinion) was a poor choice of name; it obviously leads to confusion. I'm actually surprised Shannon isn't aware of this. I agree though, that even though it's called duct tape, it should definitely not be used for ductwork. Not sure why they even decided to call it duct tape to begin with!

Cotton duck is a kind of canvas. This canvas was the tape's original backing (with a polymer coating over that to enhance waterproofing). That's the origin of the name. How it turned into "duct" is a part of the story I was never told. (I did marketing for an adhesives company.)
