Excellent safety tips, never knew about letting the blade stop in the work before lifting. Also that bevel in your jig stop to accommodate sawdust is brilliant.

Another simple, yet good video Shannon. Well done. That bevel tip on a stop block I never heard of. It’s a great tip and makes sense.

Great video, the only thing I would add is cut with the “good” side down, and also explain the different blade types , number of teeth and where to use.

Great video Shannon I have used miter saws as a DYI'er for over 10 years and I learned some things that will help me in the future. I have been trying to get my wife, who uses the miter saw once in a while to follow good practices when using the saw. I will share your video with her to reinforce some of the things I've been teaching her, thanks.

I have the most basic one, like your DeWalt. I love the thing. Just making nice square chops of 2x4s is reason enough to have one, not to mention for all the baseboard, casing, or crown trim cuts. I use a 45 bezel for baseboards. You're right, though, I can't really think of an application where I'd want to do a compound mitre and bevel. Those sliding-arm mitre saws remind me of radial arm saws which I don't think are made anymore?
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 5 ай бұрын
Ya I have not see a new radial arm saw sold anywhere in years. They were a very versatile saw but in some applications dangerous . Did you know you could rotate the head extend it out on the arm and use it like an over head table saw? I had to use one like that years ago on site and i sweated bullets everyday using it that way.

Great info. I made a habit bit of grabbing the fence or the base with one finger (left hand that is) when working with a small piece so I don’t slide my hand into the blade accidentally for any reason. Just respect the tool and you’ll be okay. TY Marry Christmas all.

Great video for those who never used one. Mine has a laser light and I'm pretty sure at least one of yours do too, but you must not like using them. I plan to cut some 12x24 large format porcelain shower tiles with my miter saw outside and was wondering if you recommend a blade for those. I thought about using a wet saw but hear those are really messy. I saw a video where people use the angle grinders too. I have one but I highly doubt I can cut straight lines freehanded like a lot of these people are able to do. Oh, and Merry Christmas. 🙂

Yes actually both Bosch saws have lasers but the one had dead batteries and i just have not replaced them , hence I kinda even forgot to mention the laser. I have a wet saw so I never have even considered my mitre saws for tile. If they are just straight cuts a snap tile cutter is better. Hey Shannon Do you have a video on a table saw, I am very proficient with all my other tools but I still shudder when I need to use my table saw. By the way I used your video to do my laminate stairs and they are working out great just putting together today all cut to perfection (I hope) Merry Christmas

Hard to beat the old radial arm saws where you can rip boards instead of needing a table saw.

I have a nice sliding hitachi mitre saw that the guard broke. I don’t use it more than a few times a year and I’m Very careful to not go near the blade until it stops every time. It also has a laser for the cut line that quit working recently. Do you know if those can be replaced? Great video and I learned some good tips 👍
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 5 ай бұрын
Depends on the type of laser but I'm sure most could likely be fixed or replaced. On my two Bosch saws the laser is the arbour on the blade, they are add on lasers you can purchase.amzn.to/3tnWdEA

I'm very much into battery powered tools, so, I bought a battery powered miter saw with its table. However, it's so big and heavy, it just stays in one place against the wall. I could have bought a plug-in saw and done just as well. (Note: I do have a very tiny battery powered miter saw that I drag out into the driveway for most jobs, just to avoid all the sawdust cleanup work.)

Milwaukee makes a smaller 8" battery powered mitre saw but even it is bulky for carrying around .

Don't any of them have a depth stop? Very useful for half lap/halving joints. Whatever you call them that side of the pond anyway. Or is that more advanced and I'm ahead of a potential part 2?

Actually that is a feature I seldom use so I didi not even think of it, I know two of these saw have it for sure ..I'm not sure about the Dewalt saw?

I've got a miter saw or two. I think my first one is like yours (I've had my tools in storage for a few years. I can't quite remember what I have anymore). Just a miter chopping block. The second one I got is a really nice slider miter. That one I have quick access to in storage, the other one is buried in the swamp of misfit tools. I keep threatening to get a 14" slider miter so I can do what I do with two cuts on my 10" with just 1 cut. Often the angles I cut in board stock exceed the limit of that cute little 10" blade. I could get a 12 but why not go to the 14"? I can tell you why I haven't done it yet, I like fancy blades and 14" fancy blades have equally fancy prices. Often well over $100 dollars per blade. You buy 5 of those and you've spend the price of the saw. And you never seem to see that type of blade in an economy 12 pack.
