I just bought a used 2017 for 1,400 in perfect condition and I’m very happy with it so far for what I do. So for me I definitely go with used and use the additional $1,000 for a trip to Greece with my girlfriend!

this quality is excellent! only thing i would say is to avoid using background audio with lyrics. it sometimes makes it harder to fully comprehend what you’re saying ;)

When changing the volume or brightness - or really anything on the touch bar, when you press down on the icon keep your finger pressed down and slide left or right to adjust. You DON'T just tap, then adjust your finger, then slide. Just press and slide, it's actually less work, more accurate, and faster than normal.

I just upgraded from a 2010 MacBook to a 2017 MacBook Pro. At first I was thinking that maybe I made a mistake, but now I can see I did not 💪🏽

I bought a used MBP 13" that was only 3 weeks old for CAD 1850 and it came with three years of Apple Care (almost 300 value). I know you mention the touchbar but I am saying that I love it, overall it is easy to setup and use. This unit is currently in store for around CAD 2700 but has of course the newer processor that can clock up to 4.1Ghz. But at 1k under the new price my ever so slightly used MBP with 3 cycles is worth it to opt for a used computer. With the Apple Care and the backing of Apple as a company (lots of stores) I know I am always just one town away from getting a Genius to look at it. Today they ordered a new keyboard for me, for hey I might as well and there were some keys that kept sticking / repeating. Yes, I know it is only 3 weeks old but I used that as a negotiating tactic to talk the price down slightly further because now I had to endure the 3 - 5 days of being without a computer (I will be using a Macbook Air during that time). In fact, I have only purchased one new computer in my life: iMac 21 inch in 2006 when they moved to Intel. After that it has always been refurbished and/or used from Kijiji or LetGo etc.

I switched from this same unit to a 2018 Macbook Air not long ago - I do sometimes miss the power on the Pro, but with resale value alone on it after about a year of use, I was able to buy the Air outright!! For the majority of my work the power of the Pro was overkill.

I've been rocking my 2017 Radeon Pro 560 for two years now ! it's pretty good. runs all my design software, developing and compiling code and casual gaming ! I love the performance, sleek design and the USB C is the best ! I use no dongles because everything I HAVE is either wireless or usb C already ! The keyboard is the best ! in terms of how it feels, the actuation and the sound they produce ! orgasmic in many ways ! What most people don't realise is that your MacBook Pro, especially if they're the 2016 and the 2017, get free repairs for the next 5 to 6 years!! I got mine replaced once after 1 year. And since in order to replace the keyboard, they need to replace the entire unibody, you get a free fresh battery. so any issues with your keyboard? you got yourself a new body with no scratches or dents and a FRESH battery !! it's amazing ! after two years of heavy use I'm only on 170 battery life cycles!

I bought the same MacBook last week. New to Mac and for the most part Apple. I'm definitely Android for mobile and always will be. It's fair to say after a week of using my MacBook I will always be a MacBook user for PC based use. It's so well made and fast (use to PC). Huge learning curve but we'll worth it. I'm extremely glad I went with a MacBook over any PC. I'm a little biased now but good choice 😉

I bought my 2017 MacBook Pro directly from Apple because I needed a powerful notebook. I haven't owned a MacBook Pro since 2013. My 2017 MacBook Pro, which I bought in 2018 funnily enough, is great. I can do 4K video editing and high intensive tasks, something that is matched by my 2017 27-inch 5K iMac.

Just lucked out on a brand new 2017 with the most powerful processor they offered that year (3.1 i7) and 1tb SSD. To put it in perspective, that machine was $3400 + tax from apple when they offered. I got it for a great deal at $2200 total from an Apple authorized retailer last month. Had to go for it! Sold off my 2012 retina to help pay for it. Absolutely love it so far and it seems to be a beast of a machine. Definitely perfect for 2019 so you made the right decision imo 👍🏽

Good review, and shows if you’re lucky, you can find some gems out there on the older models. Doing the same as you, looking for one with a smaller budget for a university course.

These are going to hold well up to at least 5 years-7 years. That's going off past trends. For example, how well does a 2012 MBP mid spec hold up these days? Pretty damn well actually. That's the beauty of Macs.

Awesome video man. You just got a new fan :) I needed a computer for my studies so I bought a Huawei MateBook X Pro but everything about it really enervated me. Cant quite explain why but lots of small things and specially the flat sounding speakers. So I went back to the store and there was a MacBook Pro 15 2017 the exact version u found at a crazy price as it was the last one they had and they are End of Sale. So I got it with full warranty etc and I've never been happier. I went full Apple and bought a Apple Watch 4 and a Xs Max. Absolutely LOVE how everything is so connected! Have u tried unlocking your MacBook Pro with the Apple Watch? Just love how the watch vibrates and makes the unlock sound 😂 Of course I also worry about the keyboard issues but Apple has a 4 year keyboard replacement program so it brings some what of a comforting feeling. Lately I've been using my MacBook Pro more then my gaming rig (Ryzen 2700x, RTX 2080ti) just because of the versatility and me being able to bring it just about everywhere.

After one year I’ve got no complaints (editing video, photos and photoshop), no keyboard flaws, it does throttle a little bit, and battery still lasts a lot actually hah

The only dongle I carry is a can of compressed air. I have the 2017 keyboard and constantly have sticky keys but a quick shot of air always frees up the key. This is the only issue that keeps me from recommending the MacBook to my friends. I tell them to buy a PC. Cheaper and more powerful.

I’ve bought a 2017 13 inch non Touch Bar MacBook Pro BRAND NEW from Costco as it was recently on display where I live and I absolutely love it. I went in thinking they had the 2018/19 models that I was originally going to buy, but this is what they had on display so I picked it up.I bought it for only 1350 which was a pretty good deal. Personally I would’ve loved to have the touch bar but in reality I don’t really care and I feel like it’s not worth the extra cash. I can’t justify paying 300 just for the Touch Bar especially on the 2019 models imo, especially since that’s the only major difference and just an upgraded cpu. its just better off having function keys especially for reliability. I do not regret my decision, it’s been flawless, and I’m pretty sure my Mac will be supported for years to come.

I just ordered an almost mint condition 2017 MacBook Pro, 16 GB RAM, 3.1Ghz, i7, 2 TB hard-drive, with Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro, just 60 battery cycles, all for slightly over US$1500 total. Can't wait for it to arrive next week. :-)

Just bought a used MacBook Pro yesterday from a reputable guy on OfferUp. 2018 MacBook Pro/TouchBar/Retina Display. 3.1GHz Core i5 Turbo Boost 3.5GHz/256GB SSD Flash Storage/ 8GB ram memory 2133MHz/ Touch ID/ 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports for $850!! Laptop is in excellent condition except for a minor lip on the top right-hand corner of the chassis. Looks like the original owner might have bumped into it but it's hardly noticeable and wasn't a deal breaker!

I did the exact same thing. Bought a used MacBook Pro 15inch 2017 model with 512 gigs and the Radeon 560 graphics for $1300 in near perfect condition. I absolutely have no regrets buying it, especially saving and upward of over $1000.

They still have all the new MBPs from 2017 in all the shops in Finland and selling them new still. I'm waiting for the big deal that I anticipate as there are 2018 models now and 2019 models..

I got a base model MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar for $700. Got it used, but it doesn’t even have a scratch and the battery only has 52 cycles

My 2015 needed to replace the battery, upgrade the storage, and the screen cracked so I just ultimately decided on getting a used 2017 15 inch on eBay. Luckily I think I got a pretty good deal with a completely maxed out model with 3.1GHZ processor, 1TB storage, maxed graphics, for about $1600. I think I got a pretty good deal for something that probably new sells for borderline $2500-up

For the cost, getting the older used models are fine. You still have good computers that will still work quite a while and do what you need it to do. I hope the 2015 model I got will allow me to start editing some 4k.

can you do a review of the huawei laptop matebook x pro?

I'd take some 800/1200/1600/2000 grit sandpaper to that mark on the cover, but that's just me. Try a spot on the bottom first so you know it's safe. Make sure to use water too. Especially on the higher grit sandpaper.

Great review. I have a 2010 pro. It works well. Sometimes an issue but for the most part is pretty quick. Apple support say's better to get a newer one. I would get from Apple refurbished. What do you think? thanks

I love my 15inch MacBook Pro. It is fantastic and all around amazing quality, amazing display and great power. The keyboard issue gets blown out of proportion, especially with the extended service program they have for free. I use a keyboard cover to be on the safe side. "Flex gate" comes down to users treating the computer poorly when opening and closing it.

Muscle memory should help you to adjust sound & volume without having to eye off screen. By the way, I'm having the same model as you do except for the clock speed of 3.1 Ghz and I have zero complaints so far. To me, it's only a matter of getting familiar with the 2 newest thing which are the new keyboard butterfly mechanism & the "notorious" touchbar. There is also one crucial aspect in whether we choose the old version or a new 2018 model which is your budget. If you possess a huge budget pool, why not go for the newest version? If you're a little short on your bank account, go for the old model. Wrapping all up, great review though. It should be incrementally better if brightness was increased a little bit more. Other than that, I subscribed!

it always depends on what u wanna do with the laptop. i got a macbook pro (17) 13inch with 16gb ram and its perfect for creating music. my last macbook pro was from 2011. and it lasted 7 years =). edit: people complain about the keyboard. could be leading to some problems when there is a lot of dust underneath it.

I just bought the base model MacBook Pro "2017" and its AWESOME. It's fast, good battery life and the display is amazing. I was on the fence with the pro 2017 or the new MacBook Air and went with the pro. If I am shelling out a grand for hardware, I want my moneys worth and the processor however solid on the air, was just not worth it. =)

I just bought the 2017 macbook pro without the touchbar. Have been pretty happy, actually love the keyboard. Glad I didn't get the touchbar. Also picked up 16GB ram and 1TB SSD which was a really great deal.

I hope you realise by now - having owned the laptop for months - that you can flick the brightness and volume controls on the touch bar, as well as if you hold down the button you don't actually need to lift your finger to slide the slider on the touch bar.

I have the 2017 MacBook Pro 13-inch w/ touch bar. I had a keyboard malfunction soon after I got it, but with the replacement program that Apple has, I got it fixed and since then have not had an issue. The best thing I have found so far as an api call BetterTouchTools. It allows you to FULLY customize your touch bar. It brings life to my keyboard and I'm really bothered I hadn't found it till now. If you have an MBP with a touch bar, this app will make it worth it.
