For any equipment with retaining clips - pop a small magnet out of the way such as on the handle, when you take them out pop them on the magnet and you won't lose them.

I've got one of those hollow tine aerators and yes they clog up but even when clogged I find they are easier to dig into the ground than a garden fork and leave better results as you get 5 holes. I just have to poke something long through each prong at the end of the job praying they won't rust from the inside.

Some interesting equipment for people on a budget. The scarifiers, lawn lute and soil spreader comparisons are especially useful. Just a suggestion, there are some good budget hollow tine aerators out there now that dont clog. Maybe a future video? 👍

Great video, I bought Swardman items. I'm sure you know who they are. The best lawn tool I bought last year was the green soil spreader. I did make a DIY drag mat, thank you but I really liked the push cylinder lawn mower. I have an electric Allett cylinder mower, lovely item. 👍👽

I actually purchased the £50 compost spreader early last year for my front garden (36m2) and back garden (150m2) and did full renovations in September after watching your videos. Agreed the catchs are a pain and for me I go over the same patch twice too get better coverage. But it did a great job for £50 and worked great. Most likely will onky use once or twice at most a year so very happy with the purchase. Don't use with out the pins ! you was lucky that they did not pop open and they have for me after a few passes and they get bent.

Cracking video mate! I prefer a lute with some weight.. But it was good to see there are now budget models for everyone.. Might take a bit longer but it's within everyone's reach now.. So all good for the diy lawncare! As for the spreader the budget one is bloomin fiddly but would actually be ok for a domestic lawn if folks aren't in any rush.. I saw that compost spreader on amazon a few days ago.. The clips would certainly annoy anyone with a big lawn or who does several.. Even that mower looks pretty good!

Yes, the cheaper stuff, especially the mower, was surprisingly good. Jason wanted to take the mower home, but my mum helps look after a community garden, so I think they are taking it. The cheap level was crap; I tried to show that... But it worked well, I just wouldn't want to be using it a lot. For someone with a 50m lawn using it once a year it might do. Though better to spend a little extra to get something that will last more than one or two uses The compost roller, if you use it once or twice a year and are on a budget, it is a great buy I think. Options all round now :)

Having used some budget, mid range and trade tools for different trades and professions it can be hit and miss for some of them. Things like the lute I would go for the 50 quid one, while a sprinkler having tried cheap to expensive would always pick the more expensive well known brand but mid range can do a fine job

Most people only have a 50 sq metre front lawn which you can apply fertizer by hand I do this on my lawn but I have spent 45 years in the horticulture trade

Thanks for the great video. I already bought the cheap scarifier 2 weeks ago, had I watched your video first I think I would have bought the other one. But I have lots of new tools to buy on a budget as I'm sorting out my lawn this year which has lots of hills and valleys after removing the huge apple tree and has huge bald patches after getting rid of the 12ft trampoline that has been sat there for over 10 years. I'd be interested in a similar video of you comparing the best of these cheaper ones with the best premium ones such as the Landzie spreader or the Wolf Garten thatch rake to see if it really is worth paying a bit more? I've got the Wolf Garten thatch rake with wheels on the side and it's fantastic. I'm debating if I should go for the £110 roller spreader in your review or the Landzie one for around £160 inc shipping at Garden Imports - is it worth the extra £50 for a non-professional user who will only use it a couple of times a year but wants it to last a very long time?

I still like the landzie one due to the handle coming off and fitting inside it. Is that worth the extra, I don't know. It would be to me as it takes up less space in the van going to jobs and in the shed it's got a much smaller footprint The wolf garten didn't ship to me and I couldn't find it locally or I would have had it in the test.

I saw somewhere that Landzie claimed it was better painted so the mesh wouldn't rust? Are the catch and hinges better? On the lawn rake maybe some ebay sellers would ship Wolf Garten to you?

Build quality they are both built like tanks. I think landzie sell the catches if they break. The only time I have used the cheaper roller is in my video so can't really comment more than that. I will be using them all more in the summer I think the cheaper one might work well with sand

@@12345banks I have updated the listing; thanks for your feedback. It was in stock when I bought it at the start of March; it was out of stock after I uploaded the video. That's why I added a different link... The one I did link to is one we have used and can recommend, although granted, it is more expensive. However, I take your point and have added the link with the text beside it likely to sell out. The prices also change, which is annoying also.

These manual crank spreaders are rubbish!!! Better spend a bit more and buy yourself Ryobi one which is battery powered. I think you'll never see it on this channel since it's Milwaukee sponsored channel but Ryobi is worth every penny, especially if you have at least one battery tool from Ryobi. Not that I recommend only Ryobi, but I don't remember seeing hand spreaders of any other brand which are battery powered. Compost roller - cheaper version is no-brainer, less stones on the ground is better and I can do two passes if I need to, no need paying more, the pine is no problem either, can be substituted with steel wire.

@@Premier_lawns_officialI have rather small lawn 6m x 3m and had hand cranked one in the beginning, it is utter rubbish compared to the one I have from Ryobi (40 quid at the time), granted I already had battery, having impact drill from the same brand. Having said that, I'd even recommend spending more to buy the bigger one you recommend over that small one, just to save yourself strained wrist and frustration. Definitely not that one, anything but... Anyway, good video. Sometimes cheap is not the way to go, no matter the price, while other time it's the other way round.

@@Premier_lawns_official Yep I bought a battery power spreader from Amazon the other day. Bare unit for my makita LXT 18v batteries £60 has adjustable flow rate and spread width. Looks like the battery holder connection is interchangeable so different brand of batteries could fit with right holder. They do one for Einhell, Dewalt and Ryobi batteries ThagBrco is the brand. Another great video BTW
