Sloop John B - The Beach Boys - Long version Fan Remix
Thought I'd make a better version than what I had before on this channel. I mixed different areas of this song into one and lengthened it with background vocals in certain areas. Carl's version with Brian's is at the beginning. Sounds good over the headphones.I highlighted parts of this song that I like. I hope it is well received.

I worked as a Field Engineer for General Electric in some pretty harsh environments all over the world. Often, I was the only one who spoke English. It was lonely, the food was terrible, flying insects bigger than large mice attacked at night, and the snakes could kill you just by staring at you. I played this song on my Walkman cassette player until the batteries ran out. 40+ years later, Home is the best place to ever be.

@@danly60871 Well, I am very glad you are still around. Back in 1971, our neighbor's son was a short timer in infantry and took one in the forehead. It still bothers me to drive by his house. Gone 53 years ago. My dad was USN in WWII. I wanted to join the Navy Sub Service. He threw the recruiter out of our living room and that ended that.

I've been a Beach Boys fan for over 40 years and had never heard this extended version of Sloop John B until now. It is without a doubt one of the best instrumentals I've ever heard. I've listened to it over and over and it just gets better. The harmony's, the beauty of the instruments and the way it flows is simply a masterpiece. Great work Brian Wilson and crew.

I've been a Beach Boys fan for 62 years since I was 12. I was so lucky to grow up with them. I lived near the ocean beaches in Southern California too. I've always loved "Sloop John B, so under rated song. This extended version is great !

The song was actually adapted from a folk song Hoist John B Sail the Beach Boys gave it their own style and released it as The Sloop John B.....

I will always think of my daddy whenever I hear this song. He was a Greek immigrant who came to this country when he was 8 years old. We were in our car when this song came on the radio. He asked me, "why did he take someone else's corn"!!! xoxoxoxoxo

Very well said........it's great we can do this now w/ digital, etc......great fun to play w/ the harmonies. Didn't the Kingston Trio do this song first ? And i also think that K.T. did A Very Good Year first......very prescient of them, because having other groups want to cover their songs is, in itself, a huge complement.

The absolute best music by the Beach Boys is always enjoyable. The concert I have went to in the last 2 years was absolutely fantastic. John Stamos plays wonderful with them. Been a fan since the late 1960. Great to see them play together.❤❤🎉😊

Really great, honesty, but how many fans know that this is a sea chanty dating back to at least 1903 in the Bahamas? The Beach Boys turned it into great instrumental.

I started getting interested in popular music around 1968 when I was 10. I started playing the clarinet a year earlier. But then I started listening to AM radio. I don't remember the boys oy summer being on much, then. But a couple of years later, when I went from records to cassettes, I got a greatest hits cassette of the Beach Boys. They've been in my music library ever since. Since I was still in school at that time, one of my favorites was In My School.

One of the greatest tune , with Good Vibrations, Do it again, of this greatest group among others. As I mentioned in other previous comments the remix extended versions of the Boys are often the best, and much enjoyable due to the research of the highest quality of sounds, harmony, melody and thus composition. Beach Boys = standard of the highest quality in music many decades after, and to come. Thanks so much to you great Boys of the Beach.

Brian is a perfectionist. It plainly shows in his music. Some of the best music ever recorded in my opinion. Right up there with Bach and Beethoven.

This was a folk song. The friend that wasn't actually related gave this song to Brian. He mixed in Beach Boys goodness and Voila! Perfection.❤

When this song came out my older brother was in the Navy serving aboard the USS WADDEL, a guided missile destroyer during Vietnam when things were getting hot. Every time she heard this she would get quiet in her thoughts and I could see the pain and worrying she, like so many other mothers

I disagree, why do people try and outdo what is perfection in the first place, I don’t understand. Besides I love Brian’s scratch vocals, him doing all the singing with the Wrecking Crew with original words.

@@johanvandermeulen9696 Ja, der deutsche Ort klingt und schreibt sich genauso wie die Hauptstadt der Bahamas, die wohl sicherlich gemeint ist... aber das ist dir sicherlich auch bekannt. Interessant ist allerdings, dass die erste Plattenaufnahme bzgl. des Kahnes "John B" bereits 1935 in Old Bight Cat Island (Bahamas) aufgenommen wurde! Der Hammer, "Altes" bzw. Musik überlebt einfach alles! Schöne Grüße aus Deutschland...

@@intensivesax Nö, das realisierte ich mich nicht dass Nassau die Hauptstadt der Bahamas sei. Bei Nassau denke ich erstens an Prinz Willem von Nassau der in den sechziger Jahren des 16. Jahrhunderts den Aufstand der Niederlande gegen die spanische Herrschaft des Königs Filips der Zweite leitete. Ich dachte beim hören des englischen Textes dass Nassau vielleicht eine Ortschaft bei Neu York sei wie so viele ander Ortschaften niederländischen Ursprungs, zum Beispiel Breukelen (Brooklyn), Staten Island, Hoboken, Harlem, the Bronx und viele andere mehr.

Ja, die Geschichte ist sehr vielseitig, aber bei dem Song geht es wohl eindeutig um die Karibik -typisch Beach Boys- dazu passt natürlich auch der unverkennliche Sound. Ansonsten habe ich als ehemaliger Judosportler deine Aikido-Aktionen sehr bewundert und verfolgt, super!!!

@@intensivesax Danke für die Auskunft. Mit Aikido habe ich nichts zu tun. Vielleicht gibt es einen Namensgenossen der sich damit beschäftigt. Den einzigen Sport den ich treibe ist schwimmen im offenen Wasser, das letzte Mal am 1. Dezember im IJ, einem Fluss zwischen Amsterdam und Waterland.
