Hi Jon. Enjoying your channel. Great tips. Had a round with your dad today at Everglades Country Club in Woy Woy. He hits a great ball. Was a fun round. Cheers 🤠

Great tips. Alternate idea here: when hitting off of a mat I suggest putting a small piece of painter’s tape on the mat in front of the ball. If you are hitting ball then mat you should pick up the tape with your club head

Good ideas, thanks. I'm going to give some of them a try. I do have some thoughts on the long-short numbers, though. Because I use ShotScope, rather than guessing how far I think I hit each club, I know exactly how far I hit each club when I make a reasonable swing, and that's what I use for selecting clubs. Another wonderful thing about ShotScope is that you can look at the shot plot for your approach shots. Looking at my shot plot, the densest cluster of shots is right around the pin, but there are slightly less on the back of the green than the front. If I overclub a little, it looks like I might raise my GIR from 30% to perhaps 32-35%. Unfortunately, all too many of my misses are very poorly stuck balls, either fat or thin, that miss the green by 30-50 yards, and for those, overclubbing won't help. I will give a try to overclubbing, when there is not a major risk from going long (i.e. big trouble behind the green, or a huge back to front slope, leaving a very hard downhill putt if you are long). The big key for me to start breaking 80 is to get more consistency on my irons. Compared to a 15 handicap, my drives usually show a stroke gained, my chips about 3 strokes gained, and my putts about 2 strokes lost, but my approach shots could be anything. In the last ten rounds, my best was 6 strokes gained, and my worst was 9 strokes lost. If I can settle in at 2-3 strokes gained, and improve a couple strokes on putts, consistently breaking 80 is in the bank. Have you got any tips on getting a consistent swing tempo to avoid mis-hits on irons?

Great input and brilliant how across your stats you are! I have a few old school tips on tempo but I'll give it some thought.

@@JonPerkinsGolf Thanks, and no rush. I'm subscribed, so whenever you come out with a video on it, I'll see it. I did try overclubbing a half club today, and I will continue doing that for awhile. Yes, I love the data from the ShotScope, and I got it partially based on your recommendations. In particular the performance data on clubs is very helpful. It makes me much more confident when choosing clubs. The ShotScope data also gives me great feedback on what part of my game I need to practice.

Jon, great tips. One question, how far in front of the ball should the stone be? One or two ball widths distance?
@JonPerkinsGolf
@JonPerkinsGolf 11 ай бұрын
When I first tried it years ago, I couldn't hit the stone, so I had to have it very close. As my swing and contacts got better I moved the stone further away from the ball. You wouldn't want to go too far but play around it with and see how you go would be my advice.

Use a wooden tee instead of stone, less dints on soft forged irons. To get tempo swing with feet together.
