I counted every sock, every toy, game, every crayon, piece of clothing, every closet and drawer, everything in every part of our home. Even the stuff in our cars. Our homes can be so chaotic and it is insane how much we stuff into our homes, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
This challenge seems a little crazy and kind of a weird challenge, but it was very interesting! I have enjoyed seeing other videos like these, so I figured why not? :)
Thanks for watching!
with love and peace~ 🤍

Could you do tour of your toys and maybe show what has been played with most / longest?

I did the same using the basic rules you had as well. I have 530 items as a single person. It does make you realize what is important to you and where you might want to develop new perspectives.

I enjoyed your video very much and subscribed. As someone who really cares about statistics I want to point out that the average American home does not have 300,000 items. It is often quoted and cited from the LA Times. An organizer was asked how many items she thought were in the average American home and she said maybe 300,000. That quote was printed in the LA Times. There are at least three problems with this number she is looking at homes that make enough money to hire an organizer and homes that have enough things they feel the need to hire an organizer so not the average home. Also no actual counting was done she just guessed. This statistic is used in schools to show how a statistic can be made up and still be able to be cited and then gets spread around enough that everyone accepts it as fact.

Fascinating approach! I'm so intrigued by your idea of counting every item in your home. I think I would feel overwhelmed but you have shown that it can be done and it's an insightful exercise. For working moms like myself, I feel I am constantly managing stuff so about 8 years ago I made an intentional decision to downsize and declutter. It's the best decision I made. The hard part is trying to get my family onboard. We're constantly juggling so many responsibilities, and a cluttered environment can add to the stress. I found dedicating 15 minutes each day to decluttering a small area to be manageable and very rewarding... 8 years later, I am still on the journey but I feel much better for it. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I love all your videos-so thank you-you’re definitely the most realistic and relatable minimalist KZfaqr I’ve come across! Just wondered how you manage homeschool supplies? ( I think you homeschool?) This area I struggle with the most! So many lovely books/resources and things ‘we’ll come back to’! Many thanks again for your wonderful inspiration x

What a beautiful compliment. 🤍 thank you. Yes! I would use the just in case/just for when rule to help with this. So keeping the items that you know you are going to use vs the just in case items. I talk about this concept in my other video for practical ways to own less stuff. Also, using the library is extremely helpful in having lots of cool material to learn from, but being able to return when done with it. You can also give yourself one specific area that you allow yourself to store school items( 1 cabinet, 1 bookshelf, etc). And if that area gets too full, then you let go of some things. This idea helps give some boundaries for the items we are wanting to store.

I tried a more minimalist approach and just estimated my things at around 800 pieces. 😅 Should be pretty accurate though, because I counted my stuff before I moved last summer. 👌😊

I've just found your channel, and subscribed, I'm curious, did doing this make you get rid of anything?

I think I got rid of maybe 10-15 things. I know for sure if my home was not already simplified it would have been way more than that though! :) thank you for your support! 🤍
