On the one hand, I totally agree, but on the other hand, this IS the perfect opportunity for Krasinski to play a flawed, arrogant character that is totally different from his usual roles. I think it could go either way.

To be honest, after watching this video I feel like we've seen most of what Nando wants from Reed in Iron Mans story arc. I'd love to see something a little bit different, they should take the Homecoming route - we know the origin already, we don't need to waste anymore time with another play by play F4 origin IMO. We don't need to see an arrogant know it all learn how to become a team player.. AGAIN. They should focus way more on the family dynamic in the F4 movie anyway, its not a Reed Richards movie. I think Krasinski will return for two reasons. 1. It would be a poor business move (on Krasinskis behalf) to cement himself as Mr Fantastic for a handful of scenes in the biggest franchise in the world to then not return. 2. Despite what they did with variants in Loki, it would be odd to have Mr Fantastic appear alongside variant characters with faces we HAVE seen numerous times (Carter, Prof X, Black Bolt, Mordo) in the past and then the next appearance of Mr Fantastic bare somebody elses face entirely. Bonus Reason: Just because John hasn't played a character like Reed before doesn't mean he isn't capable.. he's an actor at the end of the day.

Agreed. I hate that Nando's whole argument boils down to, John Krasinski shouldn't play this character because it's deeply flawed and he's never played a deeply flawed character before. He's an ACTOR. And as others have pointed out the arc he wants was already perfected with Tony Stark and Dr Strange.

Personally, liked John as older Reed who’s more settled down and human but Mr Fantastic is actually pretty arrogant and calculated sometimes and as Nando mentioned, serious. Reed is someone I imagine to be the type of person to look at anyone who isn’t his immediate family as statistics and variables in a problem he needs to solve. He is impulsive in his need to solve every one of the universe’s problems and is sort of unhealthily in love with science. Reed will be building or finding something very dangerous, people will tell him not to use it, and then he’s gonna go behind their backs and use it anyway just for science. If John can play a younger main mcu version of Mr Fantastic and they actually find cool ways for him to use his powers (shape shifting, density shifting, disguising) he could definitely work.

I also think that there is no reason why our version of Mr Fantastic should be like the one in the comics. I would like a drok version of Reed who kind of feels like a Jim from the Office and the grows into the family man we saw in DrS2. I think that would be a differtent and original aproach to the character, something refreshing. If you think about it we already have arrogant and brilliant characters who would do what you are saying (remeber that a lot of people complained about Tony and Dr. Strange being very similar). In fact literally that is what the doctor strange form the 838 universe did, use a very dargerous thing behind everyone´s backs. (Pardon my english in case you find some typo, im from Argentina)

The biggest moment for Mr Fantastic for me is when, in Marvel 1601 or whatever, the Niel Gaiman comic that takes place in colonial America, Dr Doom has him locked away. They go to talk to him and he just straight up asks Doom if he thinks light might function both as a particle AND a wave. Dude is imprisoned and is spending his time inventing Einsteins theories a couple of centuries early. Hes infinitely curious, to a fault.

Honestly, I’m also hoping Kransinki isn’t the official MCU Reed Richards. In terms of performance, I thought Kransinki was a bit bland and didn’t leave much of impression. More importantly, however, I just thought introducing the new Reed Richard this way was weird. Not only does Kransinki have no interesting/fun action or character beat to endear the audience to him but then he just dies two minutes after we meet him? Why should we care about this character or feel that he’s any kind of threat? To me, they should’ve just brought back Ioan Gruffin to cameo as Reed in this movie. We at least know that Reed a little bit, it’d be yet another nice nod to the Fox Superhero Universe and killing him off would’ve been fine since it’s VERY unlikely that Reed would ever be used again.

I understand what you mean. I didn't find his version of Mr. Fantastic bland. I saw his cameo introduction almost similar to Tom Holland's Spider-Man being introduce in Civil War, which was fine for me. However, the only difference between the introductions was the fact that Spider-Man was in the movie more than 15 mins, and Mr. Fantastic was only in this movie for about 5 mins. But I do agree, I think they could of use the actor from the 2005 movie, but an older version.

I believe John Krasinski would be an effective choice emotionally. You've laid out that he doesn't really play complex characters with flaws, and I think that can be used against us. We would all feel betrayed when he inevitably causes some of the biggest issues in the MCU because he was too curious or too arrogant. Not married to him being brought back for the role, and I instantly felt like this was "Here you go, have the thing you want. Ok we're gonna do something else now", but thinking of it in this new light has opened me up to the possibility and I wouldn't be disappointed in his casting.

However someone like batman has often been interpreted with more military style utilitarian clothing because thats what he as a super rich guy can get a hold of, mix that with him basically being a ninja and you get alot of costumes that all suit an interpretation of him. I don’t feel like you can get an exact read on Krazinskis Reed(pun somewhat intended) from the small amount of time he had on screen and speaking. You can infer a bit from the little glimpses at his backstory but he didn’t get a change to do or say anything really reed Richards-esque. If we get him again we just need a writer and director that understand the character as I’m sure John can play him well enough

When I saw the way they flipped a lot of character relationships with Captain Carter rather than Steve, Mordo as the sorcerer supreme rather than Stephen, and Maria rather than Carol, I thought that Krazinsky as Thing rather than Reed fit way better and is well planted by the idea of these flips. As someone who loves the Fantastic Four, I definitely see your point and respect your perspective on this. However, I think you're too focused on specific parts of the character. Yes Reed is nerdy and flawed, but he also is the quarterback of a superhero team. And regardless of if they start out early in his career, Reed was always a family man. He was a brother to Ben, a mentor to Johnny and a husband to Sue. Just because he doesn't have kids yet doesn't mean the family man qualities Krasinski has go to waste. I think you're putting too much importance on how Krasinski acts in real life and the roles he's done before. Just because he hasn't played a smart character before doesn't mean he can't. I agree he hasn't played exactly Reed before, but he would excel in the leadership and family roles MCU Reed would require. Because honestly, I think we have to be realistic and make peace with the fact that MCU Reed is not going to be portrayed as unlikable. That's just not how the MCU operates with its leading men, and although I think its something I would want for the character, I would guess they're going to lean into the family angle as quickly as possible. And thats what Krasinski would excel at.

Chris Evans always played the exact opposite character as Cap in all the movies I've seen of him, yet he was a great cap. Hemsworth hardly did any movies, and wasn't impressive in the ones he did make. Yet he is still a great Thor. Krasinski is an actor, actors act. He knows how Reed is, and I'm sure he knows how to pull that off. Also most of the stuff he mentions aren't on the actor, but the script. How is Krasinski supposed to play someone obsessed with science in 2 minutes and like 6 lines?
@merlith4650
@merlith4650 2 жыл бұрын
Most actors could play a family man though. I don't see Krasinski having a notable talent in portraying a family man. I'd rather just have different actor who can do both and is believable in the role. And Krasinski just.. doesn't look the part. I can't see him as Mr Fantastic, even in the suit I didn't buy him as Reeds. It just looks odd having this strong, bearded guy built like a bear portray a character who is usually supposed to be this clean shaved skinny guy with slick hair, and whose superpower is being flexible and stretchy. Stretchy superpowers are already hard to pull off in live action without looking goofy or silly, having the powers portrayed by a large man makes it even worse, as it's just easier for the brain to accept a skinny guy to be elastic. It's like portraying the hammerswinging thor as a guy with twigs for arms, it just wouldn't work for the character. I still believe this to be one of the dumber fancastings, especially when one of the arguments was literally just the fact that "he has an actor wife in real life who could play Sue".

He didn’t get a lot of time to really get into Reed, but what we saw felt right to me. As a person with adhd, I’m advocating for the MCU’s Reed Richards to have adhd. Make him hyper focus on a project and neglect his health and relationships sometimes, only for Sue Storm to lay a hand on his shoulder and bring him back to reality. Have him be impulsive, have him fidget with stuff on his desk, show him masking when he’s spiraling because of his intense fear of rejection and failure but pushing ahead in spite of it because he’s still brave. Have his only friend in college be Ben Grimm because he has trouble maintaining relationships, and Ben’s the only one who’s willing to stick around because he too finds relationships hard at times. Give us some canonical adhd representation in the MCU!

Reed is smarter but not as out going as Stark. He introverted and almost obsessively driven for science. Then his family once Reed and Sue have kids. Reed isnt about looking smarter than everyone. I mean, you’re not a million miles off. I think the biggest differences is: Reed Richards is intensely introverted; so intelligent that he finds it difficult to relate (or even talk) to people; he’s much less a cool dude than he is a fairly beaten down nerd (even after getting rubber powers and a hot wife). He’s also more of a “master of all fields” than Tony Stark. I guess you could say RDJ’s Tony Stark is an engineer, and Reed Richards is a scientist, both geniuses with different approaches - although this is variable based on the comic appearance. In the Ultimate Universe, Reed Richards eventually turns into a villain, which is a lot of fun.

What in getting from this is that Fitz in Agents of Shield is basically the best version of Reed Richards. He's a nerdy, likable guy that initially comes across as harmless, but secretly knows he's the smartest guy in the room and that gives him an ego. He's willing to do morally grey things sometimes and ignores advice from others in order to get the job done. He's also the most interesting character on the show, and similar to Reed in the comics, he's had mental breakdowns in the past and we've even seen other timelines where he goes evil, just like Reed Richards.

I think something clever to potentially do is adapt Ultimate Reed's multiverse telephone thing. He would use it occasionally to get advice from 616-Reed/someone a lot like 616-Reed, who at the time was a lot like how Krasinski's Reed is presented, a family man renowned as one of his universe's greatest heroes (if I'm remembering Ultimate Fantastic Four correctly). That way, we get a young Reed in the main MCU learning how to be a hero in his own right while potentially also occasionally bouncing ideas off Krasinski's fully-formed "modern" Reed. Might be confusing for general audiences but I think it could work alright.

Lucifer in Lucifer reminds me a lot of Reed. Sure, he flirts a lot, but he has a lot of the other characteristics down. He’s focused on one main goal, doing what he thinks he should do, even if it goes entirely against what everyone else says, to complete that goal. He rubs almost everyone the wrong way in the beginning, but has grown more considerate and thoughtful. He’s also incredibly arrogant. Seeing as he is the devil, he believes that he can do whatever he wants, and often isn’t able to. If given the chance and the right script, I really believe Tom Ellis could be the best Reed Richards to date.

He had nobody to act with or play off. You can't expect an actor to do their best work if they're just surrounded by nothingness. Actors need sets and coworkers. But for the sake of maintaining secrecy and surprise, Marvel Studios are sacrificing art. I think Krasinski could have been great if he were actually in a room talking to Benedict or Elizabeth.

And let's not even mention that Charles Xavier is the same character! So basically, what I'm saying it, if Marvel is going to bring these characters to the MCU I think they are going to have to bring them in with a different spin or else things are going to get monotonous.

But what if Rainn Wilson, aka Dwight Schrute, ends up playing Reed in our universe? I can see it working. No! Better yet, he's Dr Doom in the Krasinski universe!

I really like John’s portrayal in this film because I feel like his warmth made his arrogance more palatable. He thought he knew better than Stephen and even though our strange was scared of Wanda, Reed had the arrogance to say, no, you are a bigger threat, and he didn’t listen. He also had the arrogance to think that when he told Wanda that Blackbolt could destroy her, that she wouldn’t destroy them first, which is exactly what she did. So, I think John actually could do a great job, but I also thought that as you were describing everything, all I could picture was BJ Novak‘s character, Ryan from The Office, so maybe John could channel a little bit of that or we just get BJ Novak in the role! 😂

I read at most two comics of the fantastic four, I clarify that before starting. I saw dr strange, and I saw this version of mr fantastic. and as a character I absolutely bought him, I think the actor proved to be a bit of a nerd in the oficce, but I never saw him as a don juan, his personality doesn't let him, and in this movie, I saw the face of a character that doesn't tremble when it comes to making tough decisions but at the same time feeling the emotional pain, Krasinski gave all that intensity in just two scenes. I think that in a movie where there are four main characters, plus the villain, he would shine as an actor too. but only with that face would he be a pillar as a leader. It's all in the eyes I think.

Saying ‘I’ve never seen this actor play this type of role before therefore bad’ isn’t a valid reason btw

I gotta say Nando, normally you are pretty spot on with your character analysis, but you have Reed Richards all wrong. He isn't the nerd, but rather the archetypical handsome, strong and capable science adventure man (TM,C,R) from the B-movies of the 50's and 60's. An idealized image of the wealthy, well educated and brave western man. I think the better conflict for Reed in the MCU would be that anachronistic worldview projected on to the modern world of the current MCU. This is also the reason why I think the FF origin has to be firmly rooted in the 50's, with some clever writing to displace them into the present day. Black holes warp space-time, so make that part of their origin, so that they can jump 70 years into the present without really aging. and while they orbited the black hole, they got hit with cosmic rays or something like that.

I beleive later on in the office specifically around the later seasons when the relationship with Pam became more strained we were able to see an almost flawed character with how he was balancing his work life and family balance but I do agree we need to see him play a role like this to a higher degree

My biggest worry about Krasinski being Reed long-term is that he doesn't feel very dynamic. I mean dang, MoM had horror elements and was always moving. Yet he didn't bring nearly enough of that weight we got in A Quiet Place. The performances in the MCU you can describe in a lot of ways, but definitely never static. They have energy to them. Even the non-quipsters like Evans, Chadwick and Karen Gillan. I'm not watching an F4 where the guy called "Mr. Fantastic" is doing potentially world-changing research with the energy of an HR director reading employee complaints.
