Plot, discover, memory deluge, dinosaurs, hideaway, and adventure. Probably still missing a few that are common in standard. Bo3 I think it is still better in side, but Bo1 you do what you can.

Thankfully epiphany isn't in standard. It still is in pioneer. But that has enough other "fun interactive gameplay" that it really doesn't make a difference.

Are you kidding??? The first game he didn't use the lockdown earlier and let opponents sacrifice the creature and draw at least 3 more cards...You must play like very bad mtg so that you can even "get slightly better" by this bullsh*t misplay.

I feel like sometimes he prolongs games for content, to "see" what certain opponents want to try. But I like that he explains his reasoning for certain strategies, and that can be helpful for new players.

I finally had the opportunity today to listen to your spot on Casual Magic with Shivam Bhatt today, and I had a fabulous time. Its a truly wonderful listen (hint hint, other subscribers) I feel like i have watched both CGB as a character and an actor grow so much since i started watching in late 2019, but I learned SO much about where it all came from. And your seemingly unflappable resilience is truly inspiring. Thank you so much for everything that you do for us, the community. I am proud to say i am one of the many that you have brought a bit of hope and levity to in some dark times in the last several years, and you truly deserve every good thing received and coming.

I had to grab a copy of Bovine Intervention the other day when I was looking at cards. “When I grow up I’m going to Bovine University!” Gotta love a cheap somewhat flexible removal spell for Commander and for fun, the name!!!

I really want to squeeze Tishana's Tidebinder into this deck. I've been really enjoying that in flash-y draw-go control lately. It's just so versatile: Locks down planeswalkers, strip-mines sac lands, counters those chanel land abilities, kill flip-sagas. You could even just say no to plot.

That 2nd game was interesting, mostly because you weren't familiar with the Naya fight rigging / discover / dinosaur / angelfire deck. That deck has become very popular so I thought for sure you'd recognize it. It is a pretty crazy deck, very hard to beat without counterspells because of the value they get from discover effects, casting things for free, and getting two uses out of each angelfire.

Lost in the Maze XUU Enchantment: Flash. Tap X creatures, Put a stun counter on them. Tapped creatures you control have hexproof. This card returned me from a long hiatus to blue.

The only time I lost to a roots deck was when I went 30 cards deep and couldnt get a single one of my temp lock downs and they managed to get 3 roots down. Just horrible luck. That deck is fun when it goes big but not particularly powerful.

Yeah, it relies too much on roots to do anything and when you cant pop off the deck just doesnt do anything.

The issue with the roots deck is - if you don't get to roots; the deck pretty much does nothing. So more often than not it just loses to itself.

The roots deck had the W here though. Thrillseeker in the graveyard and enough mana to throw 3 tokens at face. They took the Butler instead for no reason

The roots deck I play does't worry about lockdown because I run 4 cankerbloom. Haywire mite is also good, just put either under the cauldron lockdown doesn't do anything. Honestly, bovine intervention hitting artifacts is more of a problem.

I think the roots deck had you beat if they got the Valdaren Thrillseeker with the Cauldren and then yeeted the tokens at your face. No idea why they got the Undead Butler there.

Thanks CGB, as a lover of UW control and Jace it is hard to get away from the Mill control but have to say that using the Sphinx beatdown has felt great so far, feels a lot more impactful than dropping the Jace down... unfortunately it is the meta we are living in of disgustingly fast aggro

But CGB, did you know you also can add 4x Pit of Offerings in your deck as free, uncounterable graveyard hate? For me it has become an almost auto include in any deck, especially control decks.

I've been playing this in Dimir control (with 2x Lochwhales too) and it's such a brutal deck. There are a lot of matchups where they just can't remove the sphynx and it beats them to death. Black decks are the largest threat, as they have Sheoldred's Edict and Liliana, which are pretty good at killing the sphynxes.

In the first game, couldn't the roots player use cauldron to exile the Voldaren Thrillseeker and sac all their plants for lethal damage in response to Temporary Lockdown on the stack? Honestly curious, never played the combo.

The roots player was horrible (16:21), they could have just gone for game with thrillseeker. Cauldron plus 3 mavericks is 2+4+3+2+1 = 12 damage (archaelogist and tokens) and there is 5 leftover mana. Instead they just let you draw more cards even though they never were gonna get a better chance to do the combo since you had used so many resources and were just at 3 mana.

imma be real, I think I like Jace wincon is more reliable than Sphinx. coolest flashiest play aside, you saw with that Lightning Helix bait you needed to do with the Angel deck how mich easier it is for a creature to get handled than planes walker you drop once then insta-gib for 15. plus, you always have the Restless Anchorage, cats, and Samurai tokens if you need it I like the excuse to play more w/u though
