Thanks to BetterHelp for sponsoring this video
Visit www.BetterHelp.com/Joey to begin your mental health journey. Counselors are standing by and waiting to match with you.
The Internet can be a light of hope, but also a dark and scary place filled with misinformation and non-factual statements. I engaged in online self-diagnosis tests for depression and anxiety. I called a BetterHelp counsellor to discuss these results, the myths of mental health and what one should realistically expect when beginning therapy.
And, this video was done in partnership with BetterHelp. This is a sponsored post and while I did work with BetterHelp on presenting this video, all interviews, statements and footage depict the real circumstances. I do acknowledge that my mental health journey is different than anyone else’s and each counseling session results in different outcomes.

I love how Joey talks about things that no one else have the guts to talk about. Whenever I come across someone who is struggling in their life and they have scary thoughts etc, I tell them to search up “Joey Kidney”. I don’t know if they do it, but I did my best to help him. Joey helped me through it all and there’s no way to give him a proper thank you for that. Thank you, Joey. You have no idea how much you’ve helped me ❤️

This why I’m a fan/subscriber of yours. I know all of what you do or say is from your experience but it does help. I’m on two types of meds for my anxiety and it frustrates me when people use this platform or any platform to say things that are not true just for views or subscribers. Another words to make money over mental health that they don’t have. Your advice is helpful to so many people who watch your videos or listen to your podcast and I’m so thankful for all you do.

to be fair I was worried about this video mostly just because of the title, and this is kind of a big ad for better help lol but i’m glad you’ve made this and have talked to someone and put this out on the internet. I’ve been clinically diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The stigmas on mental health are ridiculous and we are all going through something whatever it may be. We all need to be here for each other, truth is there’s no such thing as “fixing” these mental illnesses but we can better ourselves

I do think some people sometimes say they have a disorder especially lately lots of people think they have an anxiety disorder but lots of them do not actually know what living with anxiety everyday, mutltiples times a day, having panic attack is really. Love your recents videos! Always good editing games and i love how raw and real this interview was. Love your contents has always! :)

I always tell people that my diagnoses are just the same as taking personality tests. How do we know whoever created these definitions for these disorders knows what they are talking about. They probably don’t deal with the issues themselves. Knowledge about mental health isn’t gained by studying. 🤷🏼‍♀️ so I don’t take pills to change who I am too fit into who everyone else is. Even though it makes me very uncomfortable and it makes life very unbearably hard. 🙂

Thank you for everything you do. I haven't come across many influencers like yourself, or that share your genuine qualities. I think this youtube platform can, and should be used for much more then the (Approaching meaningless) entertainment purposes majority is using it for. Although I still think there is point, and enjoyment to a travel vlog, or story times, I think there needs to be more people that do similar things to you. You are here to start a conversation and change the norm. You are here to give information, and education to those who lack. You have a genuine mission and goal that is so respectable. I look up to you for being so honest about things that not everyone can even talk to their best friend about. You make the viewer feel like they know you, and trust you; especially by not being afraid to be vulnerable. You are incredibly special and deserve much more credit then given. Here's too you for not caring about the trends or what will get you views so much as what many MANY people need to hear, and learn.

Here is something that helped me, I hope you don't mind if I share this, although it's more of a dietary thing. Long story short, I got into a very bad shape mentally during my 3rd semester of college. I thought it was something like college depression. I figured I might have low levels of serotonin (it clicked because I was asked on an exam what it causes - basically symptoms of anxiety and depression) and I had been having to take melatonin pills, because my sleeping cycle was disturbed. These are neurotransmitters which are responsible for feeling happiness, calmness, and maintaining a good sleep, and they are both produced by our bodies out of the same molecule, which is tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, so we have to get it with our food. It's the most complex one out of amino acids, so it's pretty rare in general. Last December, when I felt like "it's happening again" (on my 5th semester) I bought tryptophan pills, and started taking them. My mom noticed a change in my mood a few days after starting it, and I definitely was feeling less exhausted mentally. It didn't make me the happiest person alive, but I'm a lot less irritable, more carefree, I'm not always feeling like I'm about to fall apart and I'm falling asleep a lot easier. I know that some of you might had enough of hearing that you "just have to change your diet", but it might would help for some people who haven't thought of this. Feel free to ask me questions, if you have any.

Something that goes under the radar is ADHD, it triggers moods and feelings not just being physically active. It’s like ADHD has a mind of its own and pushes us to being overwhelmed and needy. It’s like we need something to bounce off from. I think physically exercising is critical to releasing negative energy and preventing depression. Having a well rounded social support system is a necessity. And generally I find people who suffer from depression are extremely creative ppl and need to do their specific type of art, writing, painting, dance, music, even cooking to produce FLOW and release. I take medication for my ADHD, which stabilized my focus and thinking. But, it’s not for everyone, there are side affects to everything. Medical, prescription CBD oil, too, has helped with small amounts of THC, for depression, sleep, EBS, and calming myself. I love my ADHD too, it makes me funny, spontaneous, alert, creative but I get over stimulated way to easily. Especially over thinking which leads me to dark places. At night especially so. There are a lot of books out there for adults with ADHD. “ Lost Connections “ is current for 2019 and is about the science of depression.
