Honestly I think Connor was far too hard on himself. For someone with no dancing background; pressure to replicate a move after seeing it a few times immediately; in front of cameras, and audience; in an outfit he is not very comfortable wearing, he did a really great job. Bravo Connor, the routine went really well and that’s not even including the fact that pole dancing is a full body workout so just getting up and looking semi organized in movement let alone graceful is to difficult. Now that missed high five, inexcusable.

I took a beginners pole dancing class a few weeks ago and I can confirm it is confusing trying to remember where the leg goes and which way to move. I learned quite a few of these tricks just in that class. I did however realize I have 0 upper body strength to actually climb a pole so I started going to the gym. Some classes will tell you you don't need upper body strength but that is false. You really do. I hope to progress further because it truly is a workout. I was sore in my arms for about 4 days.

I can imagine it might be a bit like my experience with bouldering though. If you don't know the techniques, you will overcompensate by using upper body strength to brute force the poses. So it may be both true and false. Certain poses may not require that much upper body strength if you know the technique well, but for an absolute beginner it can still feel like it does.

Yeah. It's been around for years. You probably never heard of it cause you don't actually have an interest in it not to mention the taboo surrounding pole dancing, which everyone thinks it's just sexual. Which it isn't. The reasoning I can only think of it that people think of strip clubs and half naked people. Which you have to be barely clothed to pole dance, not to show "how sexy" you are, but to grip the pole. A lot of people pole dance telling a story, like figure skating, just one is on ice and the other is using a pole.

I don't know how I delayed to watch this video but now that I FINALLY have: OMG CONNOR!! YOU TRULY DID SO WELL FOR YOUR FIRST TIME!! I've done pole in the past and am hoping to resume it soon, and some of the moves you did take several classes to work up to! Like you basically did weeks of intro work in just a short period of time, and did very well! I really applaud you on taking on this experience and having appreciation for pole since it is definitely skewed in the west. Shima was OUTSTANDING! I definitely hope to visit JAIL in my trip to Japan next year (🤞).

To be fair, I couldn't even do this in my prime. 🤣 I have an aunt who teaches classes like these (pole dancing and that thing with the hoop dangling from the cieling, all with those kill-'em heels), and she's in her 60's. Her husband was a pro frisbee player, which I didn't even know was a thing. Their son was a US marine. They're all unstoppable.

I adored this I was honestly stunned by the athleticism kinda made me want to do it and I was impressed how quickly Connor became more comfortable with the moves. Reminds me of learning to do tricks with the gym equipment in school looks like a lot of fun and great comradery
