The greatest thing that Wales has ever exported to the known world, Tom Jones, belts out his famous baritone from a canon in an emotional delivery that, frankly, takes your breath away -- like only Tom could do. The POWER of this man's vocals! The charisma! The emotions! The swagger! Just wow. Is it any wonder that women went stock-crazy over him?!

How great was this performance and how great is Tom's voice.Let's just say I doubt you would ever hear somebody try and sing this at a karaoke. In fact I doubt that they would even have this on karaoke. Nice reaction.

I am familiar with Tom also from back in the day. We use to sit around the tv and watch his show every week and watch the women swoon. I was pretty young then but I understood to a degree why those women reacted that way. But getting back to what you said about Tom having that mixture of like Elvis and Frank Sinatra...exactly! He could have been part of the "Rat Pack" if he was old enough back then. I enjoyed your video a lot and all of your heartfelt comments. I'm sure a lot of men probably felt the same way, that if they were a woman they would have fallen for him also!

This recording is from The Dusty Springfield Show in September 1967. It was a live show transmitted on a Saturday night in prime time. So, no pressure there. But Tom and Dusty were consummate performers, and singing live for the audience in the theatre and millions watching on TV was like falling off a log for them. They don't make them like that anymore.

I was two when this was broadcast and in germany my dad was british army. To me this has always been the definitive version of this song, head and shoulders above the record release, so emotional, you can feel his pain and you can hear it in his beuatiful delivery, drawing on his emotions, pulling them from deep inside, Almost crying in parts, just superb and superbly recorded live, no lip synching or backing tracks, just him and a great backing band and orchestra, no autotune in those days and just the one take, pure talent.

You know, I think of "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," "Delilah," and "The Green, Green Grass of Home" as a trilogy. In the first song, Tom's heart is broken, and he's very sad. Pitiable. All you know about the woman involved is that she fell for someone else. Then in Song 2, Tom turns all stalkerific, and the woman comes off as a treacherous bitch. I'm not sure if he is a reliable narrator at this point, however; he might have gone a little crazy. After all, he obviously has the knife before Delilah opens the door and laughs in his face. (One lady, in her reaction to this song, offered some good advice to all us women: If you open the door and your man is there, and you are totally busted for cheating, DON'T LAUGH. Instead, apologize profusely and tearfully -- then CLOSE THE DOOR.) And of course, in the last song, Tom dreams of simpler times at his childhood home with his childhood sweetheart on the eve of his execution for murder one. I know these songs were not even penned by the same people, much less intended to go together, but I enjoy my imagination.

@@crazierthan-u7571 a couple of other reactors have a Tom Jones regular slot and the last time I watched the woman said which Tom will we get tonight and someone posted, could be Stalker Tom or Slasher Tom! Hahahaha! My gardener and I have been compiling a list of dodgy songs and Tom, The Knack, and Mick Jagger have all been featured recently. Strange how you don't notice the lyrics at the time, only when you get someone taking them apart in front of you. All good fun ;)

@@rubydazzler I know what you mean. I have comprised my principles in the interest of jamming out to the Stones and others. For example, "Under My Thumb" is grossly sexist, but that didn't keep me from learning the xylophone part on my keyboard and playing along with the record (as if they'd let a woman be in the band, lol). The lyrics to "Brown Sugar" are so offensive, it's hard to believe it has enjoyed 40-some years of airplay. People just can't resist that opening guitar hook and will follow it to hell if that's where it leads. Then there's AC/DC. One certainly doesn't expect any sweetness and light from these guys, but my favorite song by them, "Squealer," is really ... bad. Or maybe it's just me. Maybe you could give it a listen and give me your take on it? You wouldn't have to listen to the whole thing (it goes on forever instrumentality after the lyrics have ended).

Why do all the reactors react to the same particular songs at any given time? Everyone's doing this one now. Next it'll be another specific song that everyone eventually gets around to reacting to. I don't know how that works. I remember when he had a weekly show and would end each episode with a medley of songs. Halfway through, he'd slowly undo his bowtie and the women would go absolutely bonkers.

How nice to see a reaction video by someone who might be within a decade of my own age! Almost all the others reacting to this song (and other old music) are very young, and I'm not sure if I trust some of their enthusiastic reactions. When I was that age, I thought the music my parents listened to pretty much sucked. I wouldn't develop an appreciation for some of it until I got older. Tom Jones was popular when I was coming of age, but my friend Karen and I were into the Beatles and Woodstock era rock, plus Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Deep Purple -- you know. Around 1977, when we were in our mid-twenties, Tom Jones performed in our city. We never would have gone, but Karen's MOTHER wanted us to take her, so there we were, thinking how oh-my-god lame this concert was going to be. During that period, Barry White was quite popular. I basically hated him, but his latest song, "The First, the Last, My Everything," had major appeal for me. Don't you know, that was the song Tom opened his concert with, backed by a group of musicians that completely killed. Karen and I had a great time, though not to the point of joining the line of women going up for a kiss from Tom or handing him their panties for him to sweat or slobber on. Eww. We did, however, purchase an album of his greatest hits the next day. I can remember smoking weed and grooving out to "The Green, Green Grass of Home." This video you're reacting to here is a stellar live performance of "I'm Never ... ." He does make it look effortless. (At 83, he still performs well live, but it doesn't look so effortless.) As good as he sounded on this particular BBC show live, I have seen a few TV appearances where you can tell Tom, rather than lip-syncing, is singing live to an in-house audience, but everyone who is watching him on TV is hearing the studio recording. I don't know why this was done but it was common, as you know. Perhaps artists, or TV producers, were afraid the technology available on some programs would make some performers' live music come off sounding like shit over the airwaves. Maybe you know more about this. By the way, I found out that Tom's throat-clearing isn't really a singing thing, it's a "thing thing." I mean, he does it all the time, like a nervous habit. Anyway, I enjoyed this video; I will be checking out more of your reactions for sure.

daXmusiX: I watched your reaction again. If someone were to take an overview of how a Reaction should be -- yours would be a perfect example. Many women fidget with their hair, their clothes; talk to others off camera; pause the video in inappropriate places, etc. You do your homework in advance, pause when necessary, but then back up to keep continuity; and express what I consider genuine thoughts and feelings. (It also helps that your thoughts and feelings mirror mine exactly!) Even when there was no audio coming out of your lips, I could tell you were saying "WOW". Thank you for a great reaction! (Only thing I don't like about you is you have more hair than me!)
