So sorry about Jed. I only know him from these videos, but you all clearly did a wonderful job raising him. He was your gift to us all. An absolute master at his craft and an inspiration.

it is absolutely incredible how much bringing down a single tree can cost. We recently got quoted something like $7500 to bring down about 15-20 moderately sized trees so I've done the same as you -- relearned it myself

I think it's important to keep in mind that those absolutely ridiculous rates are for the exact reason Jed's life was cut short. Tree work is an incredibly hazardous job that few recognize. Not only the risk of limb, but also property. No matter the size of a tree, there's almost always a hazard presented. What a blessing it was that you were able to gain the courage from Jed's instruction. I too have gained so much from his videos.

Agree. I'm not a professional treefeller let alone a climber, but that video with - among others - "Inbred" Jed was awesome and the first of your videos I fell upon. Helped my hobbyfelling as well. Take care and maybe some time off if possible. RIP Jed.

@@oleharbo7265 Check out a book called Professional Timber Falling from D Douglas Dent. Jed probably had a copy of it, it's the Bible of timber felling and is used as the textbook in the high school classes that they have in the Pacific northwest on timbering like the classes other high schools have in carpentry and metal shop. I've never seen the "8 Different Ways to Drop a Tree" video from this channel that people are talking about that Jed is in but I noticed a clip in this one where he just got done cutting a Kerf Dutchman notch, the book covers that and just about any other type of notch that anyone would ever need to know for tree felling. I used to be a structural ironworker and used to timber when work was slow, I live in Pennsylvania and had been logging for a while when I went to work for an outfit that the owner hired a guy from Washington state to run the crew, he was on the run from a bad divorce and came east to find work, he was telling me one day about that book and when I saw it in my Bailey's catalog I picked it up with my next order and it was a serious game changer for me, it covers more than just felling, bucking and limbing is covered extensively in it also, and he covers safety a good bit in it. After getting too old for hanging iron or logging I started getting work on weekends from people who had large trees on their property they wanted removed, I'd go look at jobs and as long as I had a clear lane to drop them I made some decent side money doing it, why let a saw like a Husqvarna 385XP sit around, there's easier saws to use for firewood that's for sure, I figured either put it to work making me money or sell it and get a smaller one for firewood. That was a great saw, I cleared the sides of a lot of mountains with it and made weekend money dropping monster trees in people's yards along with countless truck loads of firewood, after 12 years it ran as good as the day I bought it when I sold it and the 2 foot and 3 foot bars I had for it to a young man who was just getting into logging. RIP Jed, I've lost too many friends over the years in the occupations I've had, unfortunately in those lines of work it goes along with the territory, but you'll never work around better people, there's no back biting and petty behavior with the types of men who'll do those kinds of jobs.

I am often reminded that we do not know the hour or day that we are to be called to stand before the King of kings. I believe Jedd was a man of honor and he was ready before the day started. He will be missed!

Yeah, real cool Jacob. Let's never forget to always tell our brothers we love em. Not enough of that in our world. Terribly sorry for the loss of Jed. And I happened to know that there's a God in the heavens that will restore Jed, and ones like him taken too soon, to a renewed life (John 5: 28, 29) God Almighty loves a hard worker, and a family man. He will grant these ones something wonderful in the near future (Isaiah 65: 21-25)

Also the way Jed reacted to it gives the full picture of what that relationship was. Really beautiful moment that was actually, and it takes a special couple of guys to say that kind of stuff to each other for one, and to proudly put it on youtube for all to see is a shining example of who these men are.

Yes, he was and he is still worldwide known as innovator skateboarder on the top class team at that time, like Nba of skateboarding. I remember exactly 30 years ago begged my mom to buy me that expensive (like 100 euros nowdays- l m from souther Italy) cheap canvas adidas shoes he used to skate on Lovechild video just because to emulate him.
