In this video, I look at one of the specialist units in a French Napoleonic infantry battalion: the Sapper. This video pay special attention to how you can paint various white and off-white shades on the same figure.
As always, you can find all the paints I used in the clip right after my introduction. All Vallejo bottles are turned to show the colour codes on the labels.

Christie, you are so hyper-critical of your work! This is a fantastic paint job. I painted a bunch of sappers about two months ago, and they are really FUSSY figures (that they were Perry's didn't help). Really enjoyed the final effect, particularly the leather belt highlights, and the always-difficult bearskin!

Keep up the great work my friend, and that Magical 10k subs will be yours!!! As far as I am concerned, you are one of the best figure painters on YT that I have seen, and your way of showing and explaining has help many a young painter with their work, at least from what I have seen in the comments. Hi Christy As usual another great tutorial. I learn so much from your work. I also like the change you made in editing- some sped up and some real-time. At the end you mention sort of disliking painting back packs. I may help to realize they were made of calf or cow hide. So think hereford or gurnsey cow; red brown or light brown with white patches. The patchwork lends a great deal of interest and authenticity. Just a thought. Also, the rule of thumb on French uniforms, Red coat tail=Imperial Guard, coat tail white with red piping =Line infantry. :):):) I'm not a 'button counter' but it helps to shut the button counters up! thanks Steve

I knew about the backpacks being made of cowhide and I have added spots from time to time, though it still doesn't make me like painting them more I'm afraid. :-)

Hi Christi really enjoy your videos, it has encouraged my to start my own, after doing my first it just reminds me how good you are and doing the videos isn't easy so thanks heaps and I'll keep watching and learning
