Nice one. Good to be reminded about the 3ft rule. Ignoring it is what stopped me painting 6mm...

Happened upon your video when looking for some good tips on painting 6mm Napoleonics since I'm getting ready to move to this scale from 10mm. One bit I noticed missing was putting a dot of metallic paint for the shako plates which would be a good effect for this scale in my view. Thanks for taking the time to share your painting mechanics and style, and your basing technique.
@StormofSteelWargaming

Cheers, glad you enjoyed it, putting a dot of brass on the shako depends if they are wearing shako covers or not, I suppose...
@jeffmathes8144
@jeffmathes8144 8 ай бұрын
Since neither the shako plate nor the shako cover were mentioned in the video, it appeared to be an oversight worth mentioning. Most shako covers I've seen depicted are typically an off-white, beige, or brown color. Still, the informative value of your video stands on its own. Thanks again. @@StormofSteelWargaming

No, the MDF is too small to wrap and as you say, the pollyfilla will help hold the position anyway.

Thanks for an excellent video. I have to paint some 10mm French Napoleonics for LaSalle rather than Blucher and was wondering if a similar painting technique would work at the slightly larger scale? Obviously basing would be different, but I am trying to figure out the paining methods. In particular I am a bit torn between black and white priming, the black certainly makes life a bit easier, but I am worried that the figures will come out too dark. Do you have any experience in painting 10mm or advice to offer?
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I am glad you liked the video. TBH I have never painted any 10mm figures, but I would probably use the same techniques as this. Black can be dark, but for things like the British redcoats, I would paint them with an undercoat of Tan Yellow which is good as an undercoat for the thin red paints.
@duncanrichardson5306
@duncanrichardson5306 3 жыл бұрын
Good to see the whole process. Having the painting platform, whether bottles or whatever really makes it so much easier. For tanks at this scale, I use old pencils stuck in Plasticine bases with blu tac on the (blunt) point to stick between the tracks. Any reason for doing the skin so early in the process? It doesn't get in the way when doing the jacket etc?
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. There's no real reason for doing the skin early apart from giving a base colour to paint the red cuffs. You can do the colours in whatever order you like, this is what worked for me.

That’s an amazing job mate. Have you considered putting a layer of spakfilla down first then sticking the minis to the filla. I find it works and is easier than trying to work around the miniatures. I’ve never had any come off when stuck down into the filla.
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have considered it, and it would be less work for sure, but I've always been afraid of just using the filla to hold the models. Maybe I'll try it when I get around to doing the Prussians...

Top work. The Blucher cards are not available at present. What size base do you use? I suppose the cards tell you what each brigade contains
@StormofSteelWargaming
@StormofSteelWargaming 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's a shame, I'd keep an eye out at game shows as there are occasionally sets that turn up. The base is 3.5x2.5 inches, I get them from Sally 4th. The cards don't tell you what is in each brigade, I had to do that research from Mark Adkin's The Waterloo Companion which tells you the exact composition of each brigade and which units are present.
