I’m Curious What’s There - Lydford Gorge, Near Tavistock, Devon

I’ve driven down the western side of Dartmoor on the A386 between Okehampton and Tavistock many times and have seen the sign for Lydford Gorge.
My curiosity got the better of me on this visit to Dartmoor. So I turned right off the A386 and headed down to the Lydford Gorge to see what I could see.

Yes it was a very relaxing place especially as we only saw four other people. Two more videos to come from this trip to Dartmoor, just need to get on and edit them! atb Simon

I have mixed feelings about the gorge, we used to do around 12-15 rescues a year from the bottom and some of the time is was just plain stupidity that lead us to be called out...and they were never tiny people to carry out! That said it's a wonderful place with an almost tropical micro climate in the summer, it can get a bit busy and it's not cheap to get in but worth it if you can get back there again, just for the Devils Cauldron if not the walk. Lydford is well worth a wander on the way too, very historic little village and nice pub.

I guess they were people not sticking to the paths. It must of been hard work getting them out due to the steep gorge sides. Was going to look around Lydford but the rain forced us to drive to The Warren House Inn instead!! I might go back later in the year to see the Devil's Cauldron (enter was free when we went ☺).
