All jokes aside, The bizarre shit going on with Boeing is something that should concern EVERYONE. I don't wanna read the news and see a 787 has crashed into a mountain, or have to go to sleep at night and have the (admittedly ever so slim) chance of a 737 coming down on my house because Boeing couldn't give a shit on product quality control, and chooses to ignore or make go away, rather than fix. Also Al Jazeera sent an undercover reporter into a North Carolina Boeing plant and they found that the staff weren't confident of the planes THAT THEY were building because of material quality and staff experience. This is decades of neglect coming to the surface and now we see the disasters unfolding because of their actions.

The chair he was sitting in was being sucked out (how the headrest was lost) and his shirt was ripped off of his chest. If it weren’t for his mom and a very kind stranger holding onto him for dear life, he would’ve been sucked out too. What if it wasn’t an almost fully grown adult who was sitting in that chair? What if it was a child, or a baby? What if it WAS a fully grown adult who was sitting in that chair. They wouldn’t have had their mother to hold onto them. Even if they weren’t and they were a child, would their mother have been able to grab them in time before they were sucked out? As somebody who works with contractors inspecting their work and making sure everything they build is up to code. Many of them operate on a “get done with this job so we can get another and thus more money”. To make matters worse, Boeing also merged or bought out most of it's competitors already (ex. McDonnell Douglas), so most people now don't [even] have a choice of which brand of plane to fly on.

Quick little rundown on MCAS: So, when the original MAX’s came out the MCAS function ran off input from a single AOA sensor via I assume a LIN bus connection back to a MCAS controller (my assumption on if it’s LIN and that the MCAS is a whole separate controller). This single AOA sensor would feed the Angle Of Attack data to the crafts MCAS and the MCAS would trim the horizontal stabilizer according to the AOA sensor input. This system was installed to offset the weight shift the new LEAP engines cause on the craft during flaps down, high angle of attack input. However because this system is utilizing one AOA sensor, this whole system is not redundant at all, in the aircraft industry redundancy is key. So what happened: If an AOA sensor was faulty (vane was stuck in position, Potentiometer was reading position incorrectly, poor ground, power, or signal voltage to and from said potentiometer) the MCAS would read the faulty signal from the AOA and adjust accordingly. Because AOA sensors require air flow over the vane to function, when cruising speeds were set or speed was increased on top of increasing the AOA to reach cruising ALT quicker, the AOA would begin sending false info, resulting in the craft beginning to trim the horizontal stabilizer down resulting in a nose down effect in the first part of the flight, which was strong enough to induce a near complete nose down event. This entire system at the time lacked complete redundancy and therefore they enacted there to be 2 AOA sensors sending inputs to the MCAS controller. The controller had to see two of the nearly same inputs from both AOA sensors for the MCAS to function, the inputs were out of specification MCAS would deactivate and a light would pop up on the display letting the pilots know that the MCAS is disabled until fault is cleared.

“It was just an accident” -smartest capitalist

Since the only explanation for MCAS is so long, heres a simplified explanation. The new engines are too big, so they had to mount the engines slightly above the wing, which caused issues with the planes nose slowly rising on its own (from the thrust being different than on the New Gen) This sensor would essentially control pitch in the background, without any indication to the pilots, making adjustments to make it fly as normal. There was only one port that took the air flow required to make this system work, which failed in the case of Lion Air and Ethiopian airlines. Pilots were not told about MCAS, as to do so would mean more training, not ideal when the training for rival aircraft Airbus A320 Neo is a 30-minute ipad course. This meant that on the two downed planes, the MCAS system was going haywire thinking it was going vertical, and since it "didn't exist," there wasn't an overide installed..

PS: I Kinda think the bad publicity of boeing ruined their business model in ways that will never be reversed, I as a regular aviator, feel comfortable with flying any boeing aircraft unless it is the B-737 Max. Infact most boeing planes are safe, (other than the 737 Max) because they are trusted and have been airworthy for a long time. My problem is non-Av geeks are going to associate Boeing with Crash/Bad while (up until recently) dominating all air markets, I feel that this was the final blow to boeing and that we will never see them in a few years, RIP Boeing. Edit: If you want more details on anything in the video just ask me here Edit 2: Correction on 11:03, It isn't Pilot error that is causing this increase in angle of attack, but the plane's physics, as boeing (in the max model) had to move the engines' positions to a higher part of the wing because the engine was too big, that had the side effect of raising the plane's AOT (angle of attack) during takeoff, now what caused the crash was the new pilots of the Max variation hadn't been properly told about MCAS (Pronounced Em-Kas) so they found that the plane would randomly flick down, so they would try to correct it, which prompted the MCAS to push the plane down, and this spiraled into MCAS correcting too much which sent the plane nose-diving, this is correct for both flights btw. And Pilots Aren't allowed to drink alcohol before a flight, and if they were caught they would loose their license and get charged for (no of people on the plane) counts of reckless indangerment.
