Early on I was like wtf these guys are ripping me off but then I watched a few of your videos where, like this one, you explain the business side of things and the different perspective was helpful. Thanks for sharing and I totally believe you on the cost. My friend spent $250K for landscaping in his backyard and it already had a pool. It also took months to design, and complete, it's not a weekend time lapse like many of these videos appear and so, people need to appreciate that this all takes time, expertise, and money.

Those are actually Basilite garden stones. They were the very first cantilever wall stones ever made. Then Allan Blocks came out 2nd. They can be stacked fairly high. Typically though, anything above '3ft requires a permit. The can indeed can hold a load. Any stone block can hold a load. But this specific one with the rib in the lower rear that hooks on the lower unit can hold a significant load.

The FED raised interest rates yesterday. Debt both old and new will cut into margins deeply for the next 2 years, but brutally in the next 6 months as they are intended to do. The FED needs to cut inflation and they do that by making it really expensive for business to barrow to grow. The FED needs to cut growth until the labor pool (unemployment goes up - wages stabilize) gets better to meet demand. Don't borrow unless you have to. That Debt can sink you with rising interest rates.
@liampett1313
@liampett1313 2 жыл бұрын
Rates will still be low. The goal of U.S policy makers and the fed is to inflate away the national debt. Rates can't go very high or things start to break and deflation takes over which is worse than hyperinflation.
@siliconvalleylife2.048
@siliconvalleylife2.048 2 жыл бұрын
@@liampett1313 The goal is to slow down demand until the labor pool catches up (2 years worth of graduates). As long as business can keep borrowing money cheaply for expansion, we will continue to drive up labor costs, which in turn raises the retail costs of services and items, which in turn raises inflation, among other factors. We've been down this road before, many times in our history. Now is the time to consolidate your business. Those with heavy debt and variable interest loans are going to get spanked. Because inflation is taking 7% of your margin and rising, and debt takes a big percentage as well. You don't want to be the guy that's only a millionaire on paper and owes on everything they own. Because you won't have enough cushion to maneuver if something else happens. And your debt is also taking a chunk out of your margin. I've been there. Your right, the prime rate will be low figuratively from the treasury to a bank. But the rates from the bank,loan brokers etc will be high, really high. And if you have a variable rate debt, your monthly payments are going to go up. My brother had a variable loan on his house during the last financial debacle. His monthly mortgage payment practically doubled from $2,500 a month to $5,500 a month. Instantly unsustainable. Don't forget, once the policies start to work EVERYTHING will be contracting at the same time. Here in Silicon Valley our clients who work for the high tech companies just got their stock options which is part of their income cut in half due to market fall out. Also, as money costs more to barrow, it's more expensive to get the 2nd mortgage or equity lines of credit which typically pay for the big jobs. This is like my 10th economic disaster I've lived through. Our local economy has slumped 30%. If your business has high debt, high labor costs ect... it's extremely difficult to navigate these waters because you don't have high enough margins to create incentives to hire your business. You become the highest bidder on all your quotes. That's not where you want to be.
@siliconvalleylife2.048
@siliconvalleylife2.048 2 жыл бұрын
@@liampett1313 You can't inflate away the national debt which is currently over $30 trillion. Inflation will make it cost more to pay off the debt, exasterbating the problem. And that's not what their trying to do. There's a global labor shortage. Their going to slow down demand, drive up unemployment until the labor pool catches up. Understand the market your in.
@siliconvalleylife2.048
@siliconvalleylife2.048 2 жыл бұрын
@@liampett1313 What you said at the bottom. That's exactly what their doing. Intentionally crushing the economy. It's a fine thread, to slow demand enough to raise the unemployment rate without causing a recession.

talking in percentages , if it was say a multi multi million dollar project. 10% would be great... however , when scaling down . 30-50% profit margins sound mulch more adequate to facilitate sustainability. In my case, I shoot for a 30% profit margin which fluctuates. it's tough to calculate though . & even more so challenging when no one really talks about this kind of stuff enmass . watching the how Mr. beast became Mr. beast video on Joe Rogan. made me really wake up to the understanding of analysis & education from peers or other entrepreneurs. without discussing these kinds of details. you wouldn't know... how could you? we should have like a collective landscaping community. with pricing standards , to eliminate low baller pricing & everyone on the same high price scales. lol

In some cases like lighting you add 50% or travertine you add 45%. Depends on valuations in the region. Certainly don't want to under bid. Prices for everything can be Googled now. 25% margin is a universal margin for every industry. Restaurants use a 30-35% margin. Evergreen uses the standard 25% margin. It's never been 3%. I think though we are still talking about the same thing. Because you include your salary in the job costs and I don't. The margin is my income.

You now man sometimes it sucks that you only made that much out of a big money job but at the end of the day it’s 7,000 you didn’t have and now you can feed your family and bills as long as you make profit and not lose profit your good

Young people don’t listen to this guy. There are other resources out there. You want to find a master at your craft and learn from them. This guy is still hoping to get paid $50k for damaged work his company did. That says a lot. If he was actually killing it with his contracting work he wouldn’t be spending time making KZfaq videos/sales pitches

Thats an insane amount of hardscape production for $70,000. And are you talking about net or gross profit? Sorry but you are probably billing $35 per hour per guy by the looks of it. If I had to guess, you should have charged 90 k + for that job. At 7 k profit you are better off having a lawn mowing crew of 5 guys and make more profit. On another point 10% on a million dollar company is horribly low gross profit. Assuming you are talking about some kind of trades or construction company with labour and materials, average is much higher than 10%.
