Love the content as always so informative. Question though, do you add infill to your turf or just a bunch of nails to hold it down? I get clients asking a lot if the infill is necessary because it is an additional cost so I wanted your opinion T

Love learning about this stuff. I don't do this for a living (retired now but run a business). But I love when man like you share their business information. Gives me a chance to learn. Iwish you the best in getting to 10M next year. One of my dreams is to get a skidsteer, a older one that is maybe broke down, and tear it all down to nothing, and completely rebuild it. I always wanted one but I have not so much as driven one in my life. I have driver 500K tractors on the farm but never a skidsteer. Problem here in Georgia is everyone wants far far too much for junk because most of them are poor, so trying to sell stuff to pay their rent. Oh, and you're right. Jesus IS coming.

I look at the those plans all the time where I work. I work in landscape commercial construction btw. I’m guessing it’s not too common for residential? Idk because we are mostly focused in commercial. Nice video btw 👍

@@Diegosmoni pretty much landscape layouts are simple to read. Irrigation layouts get a little tricky tho. Our layouts come from architects and civil engineers. But we mostly just read what the architects make and specs. But for residential it’s not as common. Mostly a landscape designer comes I guess.

@@angelvasquez5066 very common in residential jobs. We install 50% of our jobs from landscape architectures for residential. If there isn't a design, I sell one and do it myself. My design rate is $180 an hour. Nice side hustle. The difference between residential and commercial is the regulations and inspections, there's virtually zero inspections in residential. And you get paid in full right when your done with the job, and all the way through the job. Commercial jobs don't typically close out the contract final payment until 3 months after the job is completed. But, because commercial is what it is, the contractor usually charges triple the rates for commercial compared to residential. There's a HUGE margin in commercial. In residential the profit margin is a constant 25% ,the rest is labor and materials. The more debt you have, the smaller your margin is. If your going to do residential, you want to keep your debt ratio as low as possible to increase your net income. Commercial is a lot harder, much more collegic than residential. Any idiot can do residential, probably why I'm so good at it.

Next time switch from metal edging to aluminum edging. same look and color, but aluminum will not rot out in 2 years like the metal. The top of the metal will look good, but below the soil it will all be rusted and destroyed from the contact with the soil.

You know what really F'in weird? I use to watch your channel 2-3 years ago when I had a landscape company, haven't had a video pop up in my feed between then and now (KZfaq is notorious for "optimizing" your feed and changing notifications or unsubbing you entirely for channels you no longer watch), was thinking about your channel but couldn't remember the name and BAM KZfaq pops one of your videos in my feed. Not only is Google watching what I search, listening to what I say, but they're in my head monitoring my thoughts 😂

Like the work and the design.....but as a fellow landscaper ( who mostly does CA native/ low water installs) I have a question......Weed blocker under the mulch? Kind of defeats the purpose of adding the mulch aside from being decrotive. Mulch not only suppresses the weeds but as it decays it adds needed nutrients back into he soil, this feeding the plants. I can't begin to tell you how many gardens I've seen with the weed blocker torn, lifted , showing through and generally looking bad in just a few short years.......and removing it later is even worse of a job. Let me hear your thoughts as to why you do it this way.....Thanks!

If you're putting gopher wire for the turf, you also get to sell gopher wire baskets for the plants as well. That's a huge profit boost per job. Tip of the hat for working in December, we don't typically work in December and take the whole month off. We go back January 2nd.

This the reason I started my own company I use to work in bright view landscape and new imagine park west here in the bay and learned all this and would obviously only make like 645$ dollars then I decided to do my own side jobs on Saturday made a bid for a house in Fremont for 10k a small back yard with grass molch and some river rock and man stared doing that and I’m making a good living able to provide for my family while making more for what I know how to do .

The artificial turf looks nice, but the home owner is still going to have to maintain it, perhaps with a vacuum cleaner or leaf blower for all those falling leaves every fall. Also, I hope people realize the effects of replacing real grass with plastic and concrete on the environment - no photosynthesis, no worms or insects, therefore less birds, and the filler can contain toxic chemicals.

For residential most plans, even if large with separate L sheets the planting plan shouldn’t take more than 20-30minutes to get through verifying designer/architect plant counts against the legend. Yes if you’re doing large scale like I did with the apple campus, sales force park and FB gardens those planting plans can take awhile that’s why we had a team to split up tasks. But even then you get a bean counter clicker like the people use to count attendees at an entrance to a ride and count quickly with that and a pen vs setting up OST systems

We know you listen. It's true that no weed block allows for the decomposition gas exchange in the soil and makes for much richer soil. Most clients don't want to hear it, they want less weeds. Although the science is there, it takes a while to educate the general public. Weed fabric goes into 99.9999% of our jobs.

That river bed wasn't really a mistake, it probably looked great on paper but you always have to respect the customers wishes. Also he kept the river stone from that, so it was probably a wash (no pun intended). Actually, imo, that was an epic riverbed, I bet it would've bugged the neighbors. Looked good though.

Don't think this is maintenance free. Things will rot and decay. If I'm the owner, I'll dig out all the plants and replace them with specie of short grass that couldn't grow longer than 5cm. That's maintenance free. Fark the landscaping.

T you’ve built such an awesome big business. But I just don’t get how the 10-15% margin does it for you. All the headache and big operations involved in putting together these projects. 3.5 weeks of work and even more in the planning etc. To make 20k just seems so crazy to me. As someone owning a 600k business with 35% margin, I couldn’t imagine all the hard work it would take to get to 2M just to make the same amount of money. I understand the economies of scale and that eventually sticking to those margins while increasing revenue can be extremely profitable, but so many companies continue to drop margin and grow and never really make a penny more. Wondering if this is your normal pricing, or if you worked with the customers budget for the sake of your portfolio/KZfaq content.

@@TigranGertz Softscape only. No grass. No hardscape. Make a killing on the planting projects and sod jobs. Holiday lighting makes up 1/3 of revenue from October-December.

On the seams you did an S, try putting in 3in nails & when they nail them down, tell them to not shove the nail all the way down. Regardless the nails corrode, turf ain’t going anywhere. You pay your guys way to much to do jobs where they’re not top notch. I love the work you do, but you can’t fool professionals like myself.

If this job took you guys a month your labor is holding you back. The job was overbid and done slowly, you'd make more money if you did this in 2 weeks and charged 70k and did another job the next 2 weeks.

You are undercharging if your labour bill was truly 60k and your material bill was 35-40 k.

T if your gross profit was 20k for a months worth of work, wouldn’t you barely be breaking even on your net? I’m assuming your monthly expenses are high with all your trucks, equipment, marketing etc.
