Sounds good to me on my iPhone. Increasing the volume on the recording helps me not have to up the volume on my device as much and puts it closer to where I keep the volume for everything else.

Hi John, I wanted to mention that increasing the volume on your videos would be really helpful. I haven't noticed much difference on KZfaq, but on Udemy, your videos often seem a bit quiet. Thanks for all the hard work you put into helping the community.

Sounds better, should sound better on a mac that i also use to listen along with a windows machine i use as well. As the mac volume is a little lower, as some other videos on the mac are lower, but others are louder, so its not the mac that has the issue.

Much better but agree with the clippy comment and 35%. What microphone are you using? There's a lot of airiness to it that I find I get with a yeti, I switched away to a dymanic rode and it made a huge difference.

Also again though, can you confirm the section you think you're hearing clipping? Can you give me a time code? I can confirm if it's clipping or if it's my cell phone. I didn't realize it until after the fact but I had my cell phone too close to the microphone.

I believe the clipping you may have heard was my cell phone. Can you tell me where in the video you heard that. I think I know what you're talking about. I had some text messages coming in and my cellphone was near my mic which sometimes causing some crazy distortions

Never got people that complain about volumes when they can turn up their own. Like if it's set stupidly low and you need to turn your volume to a very high setting then fair enough. Content creators have a difficult job of trying to keep everyone happy. Probably impossible job. I had no issue with the quality of this video though

John, can you elaborate a bit on the problem you are trying to solve, or what led to your decision to record at a 40% higher volume/gain structure? The problem that's most noticeable with your new recordings are the hiss and th sounds from youtube; I haven't noticed any issues with udemy up until now, but the hiss is mainly an issue with the noise along with the analog signal increasing proportionally. Most people adjust their default volume settings appropriately if there's an issue with it being too loud or not loud enough. There might be a better way to handle this, but it really depends on what problem you are trying to solve.

My KZfaq volume has always been louder than my udemy volume. So I’m mainly talking about that
@thethan3
@thethan3 6 ай бұрын
@@examlabpractice So I think what you may be running into is the fact that the different platforms are adjusting the volume algorithmically in some cases. KZfaq has adopted LUFS for audio mastering and will penalize you if sound goes above 0db, they say -14db is the standard for youtube, but most audio today is usually between -8 and -10 (professionally, grammy's did a breakdown in 2021) that measurement does get adjusted based on peak gain somewhat. I'm not sure what Udemy uses in terms of standard for mastering but I would bet this is your issue, and if they are adjusting it I don't think recording at a higher level will do much. Also any time you add in a compressor/hard limiter its going to increase the loudness. If you right click the youtube player and click on stats for nerds, you'll see one of the measures has the content loudness; this is the LUFS on youtube. You should be able to pass the sound inputs into your video editing software and the output to an LUFS meter (Final Cut Pro has it under special) to get an idea of the loudness, and adjust levels accordingly for the platform before export without needing to re-record the content. Udemy is absolutely horrible with the standards for this, they have nothing published; with very poor visibility/stats for troubleshooting the final leg, which means you'll likely need to reach out to them directly to confirm whether they are adjusting volume. The actual loudness varies based on hardware at the output end so there is no guarantee that following LUFS will solve all volume issues, since hardware will vary between users. The output levels depends on the signal, so if you have two Realtek cards, one outputting at 1.4v and one at 1.6v, the 1.6v will sound louder.

You could attempt to create a new email address and new account. Another option is to open a free Microsoft 365 developer subscription. Do a quick google search, and you can learn how to do that quickly. Of course, you can pay for an account. You can get pretty much all the licenses you need for playing around for around $45 a month.

I have noticed that many of your videos on Udemy are incredibly low before you had posted this video. One of my main complaints and makes it difficult to listen to your courses on mobile since there's a limit to how much we can crank it up. KZfaq is fine since I have the option to increase the volume beyond 100. Will you go back through all of your course videos and increase the volume or at least have hardcoded subtitles. Udemy's automatic subtitle service will frequently miss acronyms and other technical jargon.
