Okay. Get ready. You’re going to be inundated with comments about Angelina because…because you’ve stumbled onto the best singer in the world. Most of your speculation is wrong about Angelina. She was 9 here, she’s Norwegian, and this was recorded in 2016. She won Norway’s Got Talent against all comers when she was 8, singing two Billie Holiday blues classics, and eventually finishing up with her jazz cover of Summertime. After his family moved to Norway, Michael became a hip-hop DJ. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZfaq. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina speaks Norwegian, Farsi, English, Japanese and Swedish. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. Angelina plays the piano and guitar and also paints. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. Angelina was signed by Republic Record ba 14 years old. She and they are now working on her first record. Today, Angelina is 16 years old.

Angelina’s parents have done their level best at keeping her under the radar, they wanted her to have a normal childhood and prioritised her education.. She grew up in a multi-generational family, her maternal grandmother is the jazz/blues fan, with an extensive record collection. She pestered her parents to let her take part in Norway’s Got Talent at age 5, but had to wait till age 7. Sang 4 songs, Billie Holiday (2), Nancy Sinatra, and Ella/Louis’s Summertime for the final, which she won at age 8 with 46% of the votes (10 acts). Record companies queued up with very big offers, but, as I said, she has very sensible parents, thank God! Loved your excitement. She was 9 here, and is now 16 and signed with RepublicRecords, as their highest priority new artist, since 2020. Album coming this year, concerts starting this summer. My favourite singer.

Through her 160 videos on youtube for the last 10 years one can see her development, She experiments and expands her technique and abilities and she always amazes me. She is today 16 yo and she still experiments most on her tiktok and instagram with short but incredible videos. Today she uses her youtube channel for more serious material, like studio recordings and music videos. She is amazing.

Angelina arranges her own vocals and this band referred to her as 'The Boss', because she always knows exactly what she wants. She is known (justly) as the Barefoot Princess with 1,000 voices. You think you know what she sounds like and then she sings something else. He videos include studio recordings, stage performances with a full jazz band, or an orchestra, television shows, and in-home vocals with a single guitarist or just a backing track. Angelina is the driving force behind her singing. Her family has never pushed Angelina, as a matter of fact, they are very, very protective of Angelina. They have tried to have a normal childhood, under the circumstances. When she was interviewed on Norway's Got Talent; she stated that she wanted to be a "Superstar". Her Grandmother, Mery, has been her mentor and introduced Angelina to jazz at a young age. Angelina started singing at 1-1/2.

Angelina was born in Oslo, Norway. She has lived for extended periods both in Oslo and in Los Angeles where Angelina now lives since 2020. She also lived for a time in the Middle East where she met the young girl who inspired her to perform barefoot after Angelina gave the girl her shoes and the girl said she would pray for Angelina. Angelina's mother is Norwegian Sara Astar, daughter of Iranian artist and poet Mery Zamani and a Japanese father. Her father is Gerry Christian Slattman, a petroleum engineer from Sweden. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School. It is an integrated primary, middle and high school with around 550 pupils. The school is considered one of the most prestigious schools in Norway. The arts play a major role in the Waldorf's curriculum and the activities surrounding the school. The Oslo Waldorf School includes a professionally equipped theater hall. Due to its long waiting lists, pupils are often enrolled shortly after birth to attend the school. Angelina participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where she received piano lessons and possibly some very basic vocal lessons. No attempt was made to change her style as that is not a good thing to do at any age unless one is hurting one's voice. In addition to singing and playing the piano, she plays violin, guitar and flute, and also paints. Unlike the US, the Norwegian system of extracurricular schools of music and performing arts (SMPA) is mandated by law. These schools are designed to reach all children and youth aged 6 to 15 in Norway. The law governing it states that each municipality, "alone or in collaboration with other municipalities, shall provide courses in music and other cultural activities for children and young people, organized in association with the school system and local cultural life" (see Norwegian Education Act 1998, § 13-6). It is unclear, but the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program may be associated with The Norwegian Academy of Music which is also located in the west end of Oslo where the Oslo Waldorf School is located. It is the largest music academy in Norway and is considered to have the best music education. Throughout the years the Academy has educated many of Norway's most renowned musicians. It educates musicians within music genres of folk, church, classical and, quite notably, a string of successful performers within the jazz realm. Given Angelina's love of jazz, it makes perfect sense that she would have wanted to attend an after-school program at such a prestigious and world renown place as the Norwegian Academy of Music. Unfortunately, it is not totally clear whether the Academy also ran/is the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program that Angelina attended.

Interesting reaction. Always great to see new people discovering her. She started singing at 1,5 and says, singing feels as essential to her as breathing. Ella is only one of her influences, she probably intimitely knows more Jazz singers than we can list names. She watched one of Simon Cowells Talent shows at age 3 and decided, she'll sing for Simon. At age 7 she auditioned at Norways Got Talent and got viral, subsequently winning the show in a landslide victory. Thankfully her family was always very protective of her and didnt make the mistake of throwing a lil kid into the music industry grinder. Years later she finally got her wish fullfilled, singing at Americas Got Talent impressing her childhood idol. When she did this she had already won Norway's Got Talent at 8! For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

You said she probably started singing at 4 or even 3 but it was 1 and a half and there is a video showing her with a mic in hand in her crib singing "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU". By the time this video was recorded she had already won Norway's Got Talent, sang at the Nobel Peace Prize concert, appeared on the TV show "the View", and acted on the Netflix series "Lilyhammer" playing a jazz nightclub singer. She got the role after Stevie VanZandt saw her perform and asked if she would appear on the show. Yes, Stevie VanZandt, guitarist for Bruce Springsteen and star of Lilyhammer. She had performed in Europe, Asia and America, all of this at age 8. I love your knowledge of vocals and how she manipulates her voice to get the sounds she wants. Simply put guys, you’re witnessing a child prodigy the likes of which only come along once in a generation. Or in Angelina’s case once in a century. She was 9 years 2 months old here she's been saying since she was one and a 1/2 and at age 13 she was at 6' tall and now it's purported to be at 6' 2" tall at age 16. You don't even have a clue yet as to what she can do the variety it's absolutely astonishing

Where does Angelina's deep voice come from? How does she do some of the amazing things we hear from her voice? Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6’ give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman. (1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published. (2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics. (3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used. It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than women. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius.
