The books trying to paint Clear Sky as a good/righteous character despite everything he’s done was so infuriating. He was so well written as a bad character that I cannot accept him even deserving the position of leader…

While probably not intentional, one thing I noticed is that Windstar has something unique about her, she's the only one of the original founding leaders that still has kin living amongst the present day clans, and some of them like onestar and crowfeather have been very instrumental to the series.

@@tigerpeltofwindclan8431 Well sure, heck the Erin's could say every cat in Riverclan is related to Riverstar, or somehow firestar is a descendent of Thunderstar, we just have no written source as of now. Meanwhile Wind has cats like onestar, mudclaw, and blackstar listed as her descendents. After Firestar, there's probably no greater legacy of cats to be the kin of than the founders of the Clans, Windstar stands out amongst the others because of it.

The part that bugged me about Clear Sky's arc is how the other characters were literally forced to forgive him. First, Starclan say the moor group are equally responsible for the first battle despite them trying to end things peacefully and Clear Sky starting the fight over a stupid bat. Then, when Quiet Rain is rightfully angry at Clear Sky for the atrocities he committed, Starclan tell her to forgive him because "It was meant to be.". This kind of character shilling is one of the major flaws of the series. The characters (and readers) are told how to feel about a character instead of being allowed to come to a conclusion themselves. It just comes off as cheap and lazy.
@SunneyRabbit

I could complain about Clear Sky’s “character arc” for hours. I guess we’re really supposed to go with the explanation that being in a new home lead him to setting up borders. When he’s speaking to Quiet Rain he still says that he had no Stoneteller to guide him which is just silly. Tall Shadow and Gray Wing were leading just fine, Clear Sky could have gone to them for advice. Even in Clear Sky’s POVs there was no indication that having no guidance was the real reason behind any of his actions. Clear Sky’s story doesn’t work since there’s no effort on his part to be better, the other characters and the story itself have to do the heavy lifting to redeem him.

Exactly, the Erins do it again in other books, like "Crowfeather's Trial", where Onestar literally wants to force his Clan to forgive and accept the cats who trained in the Dark Forest and whine all the time that: "I forgave them, I trust them and I said to you all that you must do the same, why won't you let me order you how to feel about others still not doing anything to earn forgiveness?! (Except Breezepelt that, at least, tried in that book, we don't know when the other actually proved themselves) I'm the leader!"

i always found it funny that, out of all the clans, it was skyclan that was forced out of the territories. feels like some karmic retribution. all clearsky did was obsessively expand his territory to the point of aggravating the other cats. but in the future, skyclan was left begging the other clans for land, and was rejected. ironic. its like the only punishment clearsky gets, he got to see his own clan die out slowly.
@sagefeather3405

Not only that, but the other Clans *_learned from SkyClan!_* Clear Sky created borders. Clear Sky was the one so focused on his own cats eating that he attacked a starving kittypet for hunting on his territory once while his Clan was well fed. Clear Sky was the one to start the first battle. The Clans learned from him, copied him when StarClan (and he!) told them to, and then it backfires on his Clan!

it’s interesting that the gender ratio among leaders is more even in dotc. Tall Shadow finished leading the cats to the forest, she and Wind Runner both became leaders, Sparrow Fur was a deputy, several female medicine cats, etc. it makes you wonder if misogyny is a new development in clan culture :,,)

I hate that they show that fighting over boarders is dumb and cats are all conected essentially but then, inevitably, they all start making boarders and treating other clans like they’re other creatures just because they live in the city ten mins away from them oof, i really wish there was a looser clan structure, like, there's still clans but they’re more like villages, and while theyd prefer you stay in your brith clan they can actually move around maybe conduct trade more idk

ngl, dawn of the clans has some of the best and the worst parts of warriors. i think that the writers were trying to use it as a plot play ground before starting up the main series again, but they clearly left behind some of the better parts. quiet rain and clear sky's relationship feels like clear inspiration for parental relationships that appear in later books while the addition of more outsiders and rogues also seems to be reflected from the dawn of the clans. however, it feels pretty clear that they didn't learn from the discomfort the fandom has had with the treatment of she-cats, lousy villians, and plots that rush then twiddle their thumbs until the big battle. thankfully, each book released with the new writing team seems to get better over time. of course there are still mistakes, but warriors is going into a decently better direction.

I agree with so many of your points! Especially when it comes to the first book cats just being forgotten. Shattered Ice just ditches and is hardly mentioned again. Which is pretty funny considering he gets praised in Tallstar's revenge for inventing the windclan tunnels just for him to end up as a riverclan cat. What made me the most upset however, was the behaviour of Tall Shadow towards outsiders. The first 3 books wrestle with her as she struggles to accept windrunner and her mate into the clan. Yet after the great battle in book 3, Holly, Mudpaws and Mouseear (i remember their names out of spite) show up after the battle, go: "yeah we saw you guys fight... got room?" And Tall Shadow just let's them in! Truly, at the end of the 3rd book the consistency and cast just get thrown down the gutter...

Ah yes, "Dawn of the Clans", the arc with one of Kate's shitties declaration! You know, dear ol' Tom, the one who didn't tell his ""love"" the Twolegs would take the kits away to make her stay, that phisically abused Bumble for telling the truth and that caused his ex's death kidnapping her kits. In one of Kate's blogs (can't remember if it was before their blog changed or not, sorry), she: confirmed that Tom saw his kits as mere possessions ("That's why One Eye hurting one was unacceptable" - quote) and could have been capable of abusing them too if it meant having power over Turtle Tail; then she literally, fucking, says that now Tom's spirits walks in a kittypets' sky, where good cats teaches him how to be gentler. Ladies and gentleman: "Teaching the readers that abusers, psychopathic obsessed creeps and the shittiest individuals are good and forgivable angels! (Tom, Clear Sky, Rainflower, Ashfur, Onestar...)" the saga. Not to mention that with that forced: "Forgive Clear Sky, it was meant to be for him to do what he did, he couldn't avoid it", Starclan basically tells us that there is no real villain in the saga: some cats are destinied to become evil with no chance to choose their path and then go to hell for something "they can't help". This arc was both so good and such a mess.

Just wanted to jump in (stopped about halfway through the video right now) and say how much I adore your videos (They're honestly so good, and always bring a smile when I see a new one is out!) and thank you for bringing up Bumble (and the other issues not really talked about in the books). The mistreatment of She-Cats in the books will always be one of my greatest frustrations, especially considering A) as you had pointed out, they're never actually really every addressed properly and even occassionally shifts to victim blaming which No, and B) these are in fact books written for children/younger teens. (Like the whole thing with Squirrelflight getting the cold shoulder for adopting and raising Leafpool's kits, like as someone with adopted family members WARRIOR CATS PLEASE ADOPTION IS A GOOD THING; honestly kind of compounded in these books too with Thunder deciding to join Clear Sky despite Grey Wing and his group taking care of him for so long, it's just... ugh. I could go on about that all day, I digress.) Also the phrase 'He's done a lot of war crimes but because he never signed the Geneva Convention it's just Sparkling Atrocities' is one of the funniest descriptions I've ever heard thank you. X)

Literally I hate Clear Sky SO. MUCH. I've changed the cosmology in my AU specifically to punish him. Where instead of Starclan deciding everyone's fate cats are just, naturally pulled into whichever afterlife more aligns with their spirits. Starclan is for everyone from literal saints to annoying assholes, and you only go in the dark forest if you were on a serial killer/mass murderer/abuser level of evil. Of course Clear Sky goes in the dark forest.

I honestly don't understand why Clear Sky was just forgiven and just have him face the consequences of his actions. He never even apologizes for how he did wrong such as kicking out his own brother and manipulating his own son and potentially killing Misty's kits. His mother has every right to disown him and it ticked me off when Jaggedpeak and Graywing defend him saying he "made mistakes". What should have happened is Clearsky is sort of forgiven but he steps down as leader but is not exactly forgiven straight away as some cats rightfully still mistrust him so he works to redeem himself. I honestly think they failed in redeeming Clearksy StarClan just saying "it was mean to be" really seems like the writers couldn't just so and make a good redemption arc for Clearsky

He's a good character but not a good person and i always hated how forgiving the last books are of him, so, i'm glad you're talking about this. Star flower is basically in the same boat except that she’s not as interesting. Also, i think it's a little creepy that Clear sky got kids with a girl who's his son's age but i never heard people really talk about this so maybe it's just a me thing. Clear Sky in my eyes is one of the best villains ever created. He had such a mixed character, as you could understand his fears that his clanmates would starve like his sister, Fluttering Bird. But there was no way to justify his actions. I do wish that in one of the books that he would have had a redemption arc. Do I believe a few chapters could make up for the actions Clear Sky did? No. Though, it would have been interesting to read about it and see if there was a way, we could develop a sense of empathy and understanding for such a strange character.

tom could have been such a good villain, rather than the generic bores that are one-eye and slash. not only does he have direct connection to the main cast, as turtle tail's ex mate and father of her litter, but he even has a mini villain arc already. he comes back to the moor to get his kits back, and after failing, joins clear sky's camp to plot revenge. i honestly expected him to manipulate clear sky into escalating his conflict with the moor cats, while pursuing his own selfish ambition to get his kits back and destroy the proto-clans. colour me surprised when he was killed in such a laughable way, and promptly forgotten by everyone

I really enjoyed this series when I read it, I am totally not biased in anyway, despite the fact that I have not reread it sense the first time 4 years ago, I am totally right in all my opinions :p WARNING: i WROTE A WALL OF TEXT. SORRY. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT. So yeah, I remember the timeline also throwing me off when I read it, especially with Starflowers kits. There were also other times where it felt liked they skipped ahead to much, when it would have been more interesting to see some character interactions. I also agree that Thunders relationship with Violet (and his personality as a whole...) could have....been better. But at least (to me anyway) Violet still felt like her own character, not just carboard to give Thunder kits. I honestly could say that about both of the brothers(Clear and Gray) mates, expect maybe Storm(correct me if I'm wrong there). Turtle Tail was legit one of my favorite characters, not just in DotC, but in all of WC. Her death hit me like a ton of bricks, and something about the anti-climaticness(?) of it, in my opinion, was oddly perfect, something to finish her near tragedy of a life. Bright Stream was just this sweet little thing, plenty of personality... But was borderline fridged before we could really get to know her. But in my opinion, I think all the mates dying was something of accident. The writers felt a need to kill of characters so that you could feel the danger that the characters felt, but they couldn't just kill of background characters, they had to kill characters we knew and liked. And it just so happened that Turtle Tail and Bright Stream were characters that that could be killed off with out to much story repercussion. My Hate for Clear Sky knows no bounds, for it is longer than the east is from the west. But this is why he is one of my favorite WC characters, he's such a good villain. He makes a few mistakes at first, and feels guilt about it, but he wants to pretend it wasn't actually bad, so he continues to follow those actions to try and prove it to himself that its fine, if it wasn't fine, then why would he keep doing it. We can also see that he seems to think people should be able to read his mind or something, that they should know exactly what he's doing and thinking, and if they don't then that's they're mistake. And something about his "redemption" though not done very well, it also felt very real. No one is just all the sudden doing to turn into a different person the moment they realize they were wrong. And you notice how much he feels like a child, especially with Quiet Rain. The whole thing about "You need to forgive yourself" does feel really out of place, but then you remember that the reason he doubled down on his actions was because he couldn't except the idea that he was wrong, so if he learned to forgive himself, he would heal(mentally) and become a better leader, he just needed to learn that he could be wrong and that's not the end of the world. Now that does not change the fact that he did horrible things and really needed some punishment. I think he are to assume his mom disowning him is punishment? Starflower deserves death. Gray Wing is my favorite character in *all* of WC. I understood every action he did, I understood why he didn't want to be leader, I understood why he couldn't hate his brother, I understood why he tried justifying his actions to their mom. Despite Gray being my favorite character, I don't have a lot to say about him, I just get him. But I should probably reread it to see if those emotions still hold up. I really liked your video, you deserve more views. I think I probably forgot some point i had but if i wrote down everything i thought this would be more then a wall. So thank you for getting this far.

I just finished dotc like a month ago and my takeaway is...I'm sorry what is up with clearsky???? Iike what is the moral? Horrible people can be the leader and you have to accept that but also gaslight the reader into thinking they are actually ok and did everything for a good reason? A couple of things clearsky does is harsh but kinda understandable. Aggressively defends boundaries, fine ok. But a warrior gets a minor injury that is later fully healed with some tlc, he kicks out and says "I don't care if the maggots eat you" wow what a hero. Oh and letting a hostage starve WHILE PREY ROTS and not even giving him water after promising you will????? greywing bends over backwards for sky over and over and over and on the 200th peace talk sky freaking ambushes him and tries to murder him. BUT ITS OK HE IS JUST TRYING HIS BESTTTTT. Even sky's own inner monologue in the early books is evil. He is like 90% sure a kidnapping is taking place and he's like "whatever, they arnt my kits. Also the kidnapper man is groveling to me and I like being respected so whatever" Also the fucking gaslighting when quietrain returns and she's a bit rude and the narration is like "she's so mean that must be why clear sky is mean" QUIETRAIN WAS NICE IN BOOK 1 YALL JUST MADE THAT UP TO JUSTIFY HIM him getting with his sons ex gf WAS SO WEIRD like who thought that was a good idea. If Sky had stepped down as leader as some point that actually would have been really good character development. He's a terrible leader on top of being a terrible person. Did he ever think of a single good idea in the entire series? In conclusion he needs to be in the dark forest, idk how he could do so much evil and get away with it just cus he said sorry. Espcially when his sorrys are so fake, like he does the abuser thing of " I said sorry, why can't you just forgive me????" When forgiveness is earned not just handed out at the first apology!

Hey! Late to the party (don't worry, I've seen this like three times lol) but I wanted to ask about something I realized wasn't touched on in here nor in the other comments, and that's the bonus chapters featuring various cats in all but the final book. The audiobooks don't feature these bonus chapters for some reason, but you don't need to find a B&N special edition book to find the excerpts; if you have a local library with all DotC books, you have all the short stories at your disposal. The Sun Trail featured Petal and how she and her brother joined the Woodland Camp Thunder Rising featured River Ripple and how he came to the Forest from a faraway Park The First Battle featured Wind Runner and her life before the Mountain Cats came to settle The Blazing Star featured Sun Shadow and how he and Quiet Rain set off on the Sun Trail And A Forest Divided featured Slate and how she joined the Moorland Camp Quite a few ladies here! Petal's short story really does show how much wasted potential she was in Birch and Alder's life. Ripple's prologue was intriguing worldbuilding and his perspective when he arrived at the Forest was really interesting. And I'm rereading DotC after ten years and it's giving really fun insight into the surrounding characters. I wish more Warriors books did stuff like this.

We get a whole new cast of such lovable characters. Itll always have such a precious place in my heart. Its such a shame that people didn't read it as much. Gray Wing is the best ever. He is very deserving of a best dad mug. His relationship with all 7 of his kits is just so adorable. Clear Sky... okay. He was a great villian. One of the best in warriors. His... redemption... was interesting 😅 I don't think I was totally on board with it... people kind of just got over him brutally slaughtering his childhood friend like instantly. And, you know, starting a violent and deadly war that left many dead thing, too. But him being "redeemed" didnt really ruin it for me. Hes cool. A cool character, not a cool person. Hes awful and Gray Wing is 100% Thunder's dad, not Clear Sky.

ANYWAYS, putting together the whole canon into a timeline is something ive wanted to do for a while, and your video is DEFINITELY going to help, because as an adult reader, looking back at the books now, I could not stomach that particular arc anymore. GREAT VID! :)

Thank you, thank you THANK YOU for pointing out the actual problem with Spottedleaf's Heart. The writers clearly don't see or properly portray Thistleclaws relationship towards her as wrong. He is never shown or treated as bad for his relationship with Spottedleaf, at the time Spottedpaw. They wrote a horrid grooming relationship and never once, either in the fiction or as a forewarning on the book, acknowledged it as such and warned people away from it. This is why I'm always of the mindset the book should be considered not canon and told to avoid. The book portrays a sadly realistic grooming experience and doesn't say that it's wrong in any sense, even putting the blame onto Spottedleaf. That's a dangerous book that should not be on a read list for young kids. I don't care if people still want Thistleclaw to be a great evil villain, that's fine; but you don't have to make him a child predator in a KIDS SERIES to do that.

Like the other person said, chronologically would be best. Warriors has individual arcs but they’re all a part of a continuous story. In book, each arc is a few months to a year apart. You’ll run into issues with Super Editions like Firestar’s Quest, Squirrelflight’s Hope, Tigerheart’s Shadow and Bramblestar’s Storm which take place either in during or in between arcs. Some Super Editions you can read whenever since they take place before the first arc (Yellowfang’s Secret, Tallstar’s Revenge, Crookedstar’s Promise, etc.) though you should at least finish the first arc before starting those.

*I am writing this comment before watching the video!!- Well- started, I updated it as I went along, I only watched the conclusion because this is a loooong video.. Also, that thumbnail is hilarious and sums up Clear Sky really well. XD* *Please don't fight me over these fictional, preteen cat books... this is my opinion..* I love DOTC, and I enjoy all the characters in it, except Moth Flight.. I cannot stand her, she is my least favorite character in any series, not JUST warriors... As for the protagonists, I personally have no problem with Clear Sky after book 3, or really before either, he's just an antagonistic character which I tend not to like very much, but I do feel really bad for him, and enjoy him as a character overall.. I know people say that his redemption was underserved and/or poorly handled, and while I think it could've been handled better, I am not one of the people that hate on Skystar as a whole for it, or go- (no offense), insane because a redemption arc isn't, "good" that includes Blackstar, Leopardstar & Onestar's redemption arcs, I just appreciate when a character goes from bad to at least decent, as for Moth Flight's Vision, I know plenty about the Clear Sky drama, and that people say, "it broke any redemption he had" which, I personally do not agree with.. but that's me, don't fight me.. please... As for his son, Thunder is a typical, boring TC protagonist aside from at the beginning, since his upbringing is kinda interesting. He's boring, but I don't really have anything against him aside from that, it's not really his fault, I just think that all TC protagonists are boring because they're just overused.. And Gray Wing is amazing, I think that's a pretty popular opinion, I have never heard anyone say that they don't like Gray Wing, and I really like the dynamics he has with other characters, his connections he has with all of the founding leaders, especially his territorial, arrogant mess of a littermate, and said littermate's son that HE had to raise. But something much more wholesome and funny with their relationship happened in A Light In The Mist of all places, when Skystar had to defend Gray Wing from an angry Mistystar with a similar excuse about Ashfur that we've heard StarClan say before... As for the DOTC novellas, I know a lot of people say that they were rushed, which- they definitely were, but they aren't bad stories either, except the fact that even though time has clearly passed, no like kits or apprentices were aged up between Thunderstar & Shadowstar's novellas in the alliegances, plus they- forget Thunderstar had children.. which was really weird... and I don't, understand it.. at all. As for the female character thing, with the toms finding new mates, etc. I didn't really hate it, it just kinda got annoying after awhile, except Clear Sky & Star Flower which was hilarious to me because it quickly went from "I hate you." to- "Oh yeah, Star Flower's pregnant." Meanwhile Thunder is just all: *"...... seriously?"* *sigh* Poor Thunder XD, Clear Sky what are you doing, didn't Star Flower's father try to kill you, and he drove you out of your territory, and he refused to share the location of the Blazing Star, leading to a kit dying, as well as one of your own cats? Why do you always love to steal another cat's girlfriend!? Seriously, what is with you!? In the conclusion, which was cleverly named in the chapters of the video, I didn't read DOTC because I wanted to read the novellas and SE, I read it because I was genuinely interested, and actually had skimmed all three of the sequel books before reading the actual arc, since I already had an understanding of DOTC's basic plot, as I do with all arcs. And- I wouldn't really call Riverstar, "a blank slate" exactly, he just- observes.. (and I love to make fun of him over watching the battle, calling him, in a loving way- "warwatcherstar.") *THOUGHTS ON THE SPECIFIC SEQUELS* *MFV:* Moth Flight's reason for making the rule felt stupid and I hate her for it, but it's kinda the writer's own fault, because I had read Squirrelflight's Hope before DOTC, and Moth Flight was turned from a cat I just didn't like for creating the rule I hate so much, and I knew it, into an absolute, unredeemable jerk in my eyes in that dumb, "StarClan trial" thing, I won't spoil the specifics. *Thunderstar's Echo:* This book was- weird. Like how long after MFV did it take place, it shouldn't be too long since Thunderstar hadn't lost any lives yet? Which, by the way, I thought it was hilarious when Thunderstar said, "how do I know i'll come back, I didn't *see* Windstar die and come back to life?" Also, Skystar showing happiness in the context of the book when it was first made known that Thunderstar was going to be a father, I honestly thought that was a really cute moment. And i'd be lying if I said that- *spoiler alert* Lightning Tail's death wasn't sad, it was sad, I liked Lightning Tail as a character in DOTC, and always thought his bond with Thunderstar was really cute. It's not surprising that Lightning Tail sacrificed himself to try and save the cat he always saw as a big brother figure to him, even though that didn't work, because Thunderstar died anyways.. so.. yeah.... *Now- Shadowstar's Life:* First, this book's title is ironic for the plot, saying "life" in a book where the character dies is.. really funny. Yes, I know it's probably referring to the fact that she's on her last couple lives, but still- They also came up with every possible cause of death they could think of to explain why she's on her last two lives all of a sudden... also the alliegances are a complete wreck. -(not nearly as much as Leopardstar's honor tho...)- - And they turned Lightning Tail's sacrifice into a boring cliche by killing off Sun Shadow in the exact same way, also against dogs. Shadowstar being scared of anycat with amber eyes, including her medicine cat- was honestly amusing to read, even though I feel really bad for her! XD, and- Quick Water is- well- let's just say, she's completely lost her kitty mind. *Quick Water's Logic:* "Unite or die huh? Nah- i'm going to completely wreck ShadowClan." Shadowstar & Quick Water both went full murder mode, and instantly forgave each other once they were dead. Also- Skystar? If your clan's territory is being messed with already, why on earth are you having more babies!? -(also, the weird, specific, tiny detail that, "Cloudstar has the exact same fur shade as Skystar." what was the point?)-

The treatment of every female character in dotc is HORRENDOUS (especially Bumble) also something people gloss over is the fact that “nice guy” Grey wing who’s such “good” guy is an ass, also when he sees Bumble dying (correct me if I’m wrong) and admires Clear sky for fending off the outsider so bravely (then everyone assumes a fox kills her when clear sky obviously did and it’s never brought up again). And Clear sky’s redemption arc? The fuck? The guy who killed a mother and was considering killing her baby children. And the way women die just for man pain. Bright stream, Storm, and Turtle tail just to (probably) name a few. Also that one scene where Bumble gets rejected from Tall shadows group because guess what? She’s a kittypet, and fat, too. Then I’m pretty sure Jagged Peak calls her fat as well. Also when Bumble gets dragged back to twoleg place by some of the founders. dotc is just Clear Sky brutalizing the cats (especially mollies) around him, and Grey wing being like “wow! That’s so brave of him” and thunder doing whatever. Overall, dotc is a piss poor arc, and i don’t know why people call it good (especially comparing it to tpb) every women deserved better, Grey wing is awful, so is Clear sky. Also something I forgot to mention is that Tom (who was abusing Bumble btw) gets a redemption death, and gets avenged, literally what the fuck.
