Came to say the same thing. He does a check that say 99% clean area, then proceeds to blaster his WiFi down the street like a neutron star. Fortunately bits on the 5 GHz range, which has far more channels, and far less penetration through walls. If he visits his immediate neighbors though, he'll still be able to get what qualifies as "high speed internet" for the increasingly backward US.

@@naant3262 yep it's a megabit/byte thing. But you mixed up your notation btw. Mbps and Mb/s are the same thing. The "/" and the "p", both just mean "per" Megabits should be Mbps (Mb/s) Megabytes shound be MBps (MB/s) It's the capital "b" that is the difference between bits and bytes. (the M is capital since that makes it Mega, a small m means milli)

I have a edge router 4, edge router x repurposed as a smart switch, a nanoHD and a unifi mesh point, with unifi controller running on a unraid server. It’s absolutely fantastic. Can’t say enough good things about the smart queue system (QOS).

If you setup any VLANs you might wanna keep an eye on that 1G connection from the UDM-PRO to your 10G switch. I think that switch has L3 capabilities but not sure if they play nice with Unifi. I recently had an issue with a similar setup where inter-VLAN traffic was going all the way to the UDM and a 1G connection was bottlenecking.

ubiquiti have a really cool web interface. its impressive on the WISP service with antennas etc shows you blockages in the wifi signal and everything pretty cool and on a street map what your coverage is

Slower Upload speeds is often a sign for power problem of the client WiFi antenna. Most of the Aps have the power to send the signals far away but most clients cannot send the same way back.

Unifi is immensely tunable. Just having good gear doesn't mean you are supposed to turn it all the way up. All of my 2.4ghz is turned way down and 5ghz depends on where the AP is.

I would expect you will get a higher throughput than that if you do some fine tuning, make sure you are using a channel width of 80 mhz. My NanoHD tops out at around 630mbit on my iPhone and even higher on my laptop.

Sorry for late comment.... Wouldn't you want a fiber connection from UDM-Pro to Ubiquiti switch because your cameras are directly interfacing from the switch to the UDM-Pro (which houses your HDD for NVR purposes)? Potential bottleneck with all the camera traffic, as well as all other WAN traffic simultaneous. Interested to hear thoughts on that.

They have used both the dark an the light intro in the past. The first time I remember seeing the new intro it was the light theme. So I don't think the dark theme is gone for good.

funniest thing bout this vid, is i had to recently replace my own ap. annoyingly the one i wanted wasn't available and had to go with a slightly more exspenive d-link extender/ap that plugs directly into a power point. Plus side its twice as fast as the old one and i have full control over the range(had to reduce it), plus the ability to use a black or white device list to control what devices can connect to our wifi through it.

If everyone had the WiFi coverage he has, WiFi speeds/latency/reliability would be even worse, because there would be a lot of interference. A positive by-product of shitty WiFi routers is that there is less congestion.

Lol i put those in for point to point network transmision accross miles from building to building. This one looks even beefier than im used to seeing. The extra heavy mount is because it usually goes on top of a building or on the side, dont want a flurry or powerfuly strom to rip it off your building.

I love my UBNT stuff. The new WIFI 6 model is on my list. I installed a DMPro and a 48 port POE switch. I use blueiris on my cameras though. I also purchased two older used pros on ebay for the soffit on the outside of my house. I have a mesh on my mailbox that gives me connection on my street.

I needed to connect multiple things to a single Ethernet port earlier this year when I moved into my apartment. I just happened to buy a Uniquity switch. I didn’t realize Ubiquiti had the LTT stamp of approval. Glad it does as it hasn’t given me a single issue. I plugged it in months ago and haven’t had to touch it. It’s just dangling there under my desk connecting my laptop and printer to 600 Mb Ethernet without a fuss

Me stuck on. 9.5Mbps 😭 with 4 people regularly trying to stream video and use internet. Sometime in my office with the only wires computer I have to kick devices off the router just so I can watch something myself or download or upload something.

I just upgraded from an Apple Airport setup to a full Ubiquiti network and surveillance system and the difference is amazing. I went with the separate cloud key instead of the UDM pro because I wanted to use an Edgerouter4 instead of the USG. If you have the money it’s definitely worth the upgrade, especially since I haven’t heard my wife complain about the WiFi in over a month now. That alone made it worth it.

great videos - how do you make sure if you have more then one AP - that your devices connects to the closest AP? say you have a AP in your livingroom and one in your bedroom - ideally when you walk into your room, your laptop or phone should connect to that...

Can you Do a follow up video on your thoughts of coverage on your inside AP? I have 4 NanoHD's and the Coverage is really poor. I've adjusted Channels, looked at the RF and nothing seems to be great. I have to be really close to get good service on modern devices.

I think I’ve seen the circular routers on a building that was a restaurant/performance venue. They had one like every twenty feet around the edge of the roof. Still seems over lol but maybe a concert of people on their phone would require it.

Or you could put a cantenna where the lnb is on a wall mounted satellite dish, perhaps use an outside ap for the POE and get even further distance for a fraction of the price. No one would notice that it is a wifi extender either. ;)
