Tired of the old dull Halogen headlights? In this video we upgraded my halogen headlights to the latest LCI2 face lift, black line edition LED Projector Headlights! This DIY project was so difficult, but the resulting look is completely worth it!

If people dont want such an intense upgrade and just want a brighter headlight, simply upgrading upgrading the bulbs will work. I recommend these Auxito bulbs from here: shorturl.at/LMNV1

I've been looking for you to do this mode for your car. This mini is absolute boss with these new black headlights. I also have the LCI headlights but in chrome. I've been thinking switching them to blacks but you ain't kidding. These are not cheap, one day maybe. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for watching!! Yeah it took me ages to get all the parts, then by trial and error work through wiring. Well at least your switch to these would be easier! Price is exactly the issue though. I got these for like have price on eBay, but they were still pricy.

Great to see you're new upload been checking for a while really missed them. These lights are great. I took delivery of my Cooper Sport last year. My car has the same lights. It's absolutely fantastic first class. You're mini is looking really great It's totally changed from when you collected it a lot of hard work. It's a real credit to you.

Great video, you are no doubt very competent with car DIY. Given my 2019 F60 waa the most expensive thing ive bought bar my house, i think I'll ask BMW Mini for a quote. I quit trying to pretend i could do your mod when you drilled the bulkhead :O

Wow. Kind of upset. I upgraded my 2015 JCW for a 2023 JCW because I was told the new OEM LED headlights wouldn't work with it. Silly me Well done!

Pretty much this is what needs to get done when it comes to the wiring: - (NEW WIRES Twisted) 9-Pin blue,10-Pin green from both headlight is going to in car connector A258*8B 43-green,44-blue - 3-Pin on headlight ((R)yellow/Blue Disconnect from A258*2B 25-pin going to F44 fuse box 20amp, (L)Yellow/Green, Disconnect from A258*3B 35-pin going to F47 FuseBox 20amp) - Completed (R) 1 Headlight 36 in car A258*3B Completed (L) 1 Headlight 48 in car A258*3B Completed Ground - (R) Remove 6-pin from Old headlight install it in 8-pin In car remove from A258*3B 34-pin and connect it to A258*4B 53-Pin (L) Remove 6-pin from old headlight install it in 8-pin In car remove from A258*2B 26-pin and connect it to A258*4B 54-Pin

Thanks so much for watching!! I got them from eBay! You may have luck there if you keep an eye out for deals. If you can get them with the ballasts you can save money. Also make sure you get Euro parts if you are from there and North America parts if you are from there. Headlights are not cross compatible apparently

I’m not sure what year your car is, but looking at the original headlights they are different to my UK 2019 Mini F55 Cooper s Sport with JCW pack. Have you any idea is the shadow headlights will fit my car as a straight swop or would I have to do what you have done? Thanks in anticipation of your help. Regards Rod

If you have halogen lights it will be a similar wire job as mine. You may have more wires running to the lights so you may be able to tap into those and not worry about having to run more wires. Cross check the wire diagram in the video with your lights.

That screw is covered with protection paste (Protection to unscrew) all what needs to unscrew that 3 screw is brake the paste which means screw right and left few times to crush paste and job done. Just do this gently try nor spinning back nut. I'm just removed lamp to change boonet lock with microswitch and that way working 100%. Like with any other bolts cowered blue paste.

My question is my mini it’s a f56 2019 and have the halogen lights. And I just got the 2019+ lci led headlights do I have to re pin the lights??? Or it’s just a plug and play plus coding?

I believe you would need to do the repining like I did. I would go to the light connectors and take a look at the pins. Compare that to my wire diagram in the video.

You can just buy them used on ebay. I searched it and found a bunch. Great video but you forgot to mention that many many F serie mini’s with halogen headlights are just not fitted with the proper BDC to run led headlights so even if you do everything right in the end you wont see the light ecus and you cannot code them. Only solution is to swap the bdc and thats EXPENSIVE! And there are some more things you forgot but yea explaining them all in this small chat window is inpossible 😆

Thanks for watching! yes, there are some cases that makes this a lot more complicated however the scope of the video did not allow for all them. One of the things I wish I included was about the ballast. You need euro ones for Europe and NA ones for north America. That was a huge issue with my coding 😅

My car was a 2016 cooper s with the base spec halogen lights. I believe this will work for you! (The car looks like a 2023 because of the retrofits I have done to it)

I’m not aware of that particular brand but most aftermarket’s should be fine with simply bolting them on.

I did not code them myself as it’s super complicated. I got BimmerFixes to help me with it. I believe he used esys. If you want a coding session, send me a dm and I can set you up with my coder.

I installed mine a couple of days ago and they worked only when i unplugged and plugged them back in. Then the dlr didn't work but the turn signal and low beams worked. Took it in to the mini dealership and they told me they couldn't get it to work because something to do with my cars vin number? Then they charged me $200 with no fix. I have a 2018 F56 S with the half ring leds so i don't know whats up with mine and id hate to sell them because im trying to decrome everything.

Unfortunately I have not been able find one. You could check yours to see if it would work. Open up one of the lights wire connectors. Take note of what pins are populated. Then check to see if the wires go to the right spots! If the 3 spot has a red wire, your power is correct, if brown goes to the 2 spot, ground is good, the. You just need to check to see if 1 goes to can3 pin 36 for the right light and 48 for the left light, then 8 goes to can 4 pin 53 for the right light and pin 54 for the left light. Finally for the twisted pair going to pin 9 and 10 of both light, just make sure it’s a twisted wire. Bonus if there is a green wire on pin 10 and blue on pin 9. If all this is correct or if you just have to repin something, you will be set to install the new lights and get them coded!

Hi mate, I have F54 2016 sd wants to buy rear view mirror which fits onto existing mirror. I need to feed the camera wire from number plate into the boot. Any suggestion or anyone out there can guide me I. E does the rear bumper needs to come off or can be done any other way.

If you remove the screws on the bottom of the bumper, you will be able to get up behind it. If you want to rout the wire through the cabin, you may be able to bring the wire there the rear boot door liner, or you could do what mini does and go through the gasket on the right side of the car. You should be able to see it if your take the wheel liner off. Once inside, you can run under the carpet to get to the front.

Yes it would. I think you would just have to repin and code. I dont have a wire diagram to compare, but if you found a wire diagram for your current lights, you could compare it to mine and see what you would have to switch. I unfortunately cannot locate a wiring diagram. When you say I would only need to repin and code, what does that include? Is it necessary to run new wires to BDC and fuse box which seems to be most of the work. Thanks.

Has anyone done this retrofit with original pre lci led (half ring drl) headlights? I have a 2017 f55 S and really want to replace the headlights with the newer ones but haven’t been able to find much info. I know all of the aftermarket ones I’ve found only work with og halogen cars 🤦🏼‍♂️

Absolutely! Probably easier than my upgrade as I think it already has the can wires. You may have to repin but after that it’s just coding. I would take apart your current led connector and compare the pins to the ones on my wire diagram.

This upsets me that mini made something like this more complex than just ; unbolt headlight , unplug connector, get new headlight , plug in ballast , plug in connector, bolt down head light , adjust projector beam and be done

lol, MINI sells the Cooper S with the exact kit I put on my car. Although if you disagree with mini on this, I will be doing a jcw engine transplant in the future. The purpose of the build is to do every possible retrofit!

I did look into them. I think they could work well. I don’t know what kind of quality they are, but if they are relatively easy to swap out you could keep your old lights as a backup.

Mine is a 2016 f55. This should work on any f series although you have to make sure your bdc supports it else you need a new bdc which can be pricy

You need to improve your audio. Sometimes is loud, sometimes is quiet, depending on how far you are from the mic. Either get a better mic, either normalise the audio track across the video.

I agree! We use an on camera boom mic and doesn’t sound as good when farther away so need to get wireless lapel mics or record on a second mic closer.

Yeah I was talking to him about it! It looks like they flash the car’s ecu with the software from an older car and you get the pops back! We have not been working on this tune though as we don’t currently have a 2020 or later cad to work on.
