Note that McGucket’s memory recording explains both his permanent cast and the bandage on his beard. He had a car accident, resulting in the cast and bandage - and then he forgot all about it, and thus never had the cast taken off. His beard grew from underneath the bandage, carrying it along. You might think that’s unrealistic, but I can confirm that bandages were just that tenacious, back in the early 1980s.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this episode! Unlike most shows, Gravity Falls took the time to explain why there is not panic on the streets alongside all the bizarre happenings around town.

Fun fact: Before this episode Alex Hirsch released a "leaked" image of Fiddleford as the Author just to mess with the fans - much like the "fake spoilers" you get people to write. That cup, notepad and pen Stan loses here actually appears coming out of a portal on an episode of "Rick and Morty."

Also, remember how in “Double Dipper” Robbie acts like he doesn’t remember the whole haunted convenience store situation? We thought he was just being a jerk, but he actually didn’t remember because his memory was erased!

McGucket destroying his mind in an attempt to escape his horrible memories is honestly one of the saddest plot lines in the show

McGucket's story hit me hard when I first watched the show. I was surprised by how dark it is and I always felt for the guy because that's a heartbreaking story. Regretting what he did and ruining his own life, and without knowing, ruining many others' lives as well. I don't know if anybody else thought the same but McGucket' relying on that memory wipe gun more and more and his mental health and life falling apart is an almost-perfect parallel to substance abuse and addiction. I'm just glad he can finally be somewhat his old self again.

A few spoiler-free things, 1. The 3 things Stan lost in the machine come out of a portal in a Rick and Morty episode. 2. The bandage Stan puts on his hand stays there for the next few episodes to show this is still happening. Cool little background detail. 3. Alex Hirsch made an entire hoax that Mcgucket was the author trying to distract from the real author theories. (DO NOT LOOK IT UP YET IT HAS SPOILERS FOR THE REAL MYSTERY!!!)

I was waiting for this to come up to say something. Re-watching the episodes, I remembered this and how Gideon's mother was acting in "Little Dipper." I think this explains WHY she was acting the way she was. As we have seen, Bud was a member of the society, and Gideon had one of the journals. Between the two of them, and her own time living in Gravity Falls, who knows how many strange things she has seen happen. And how many times her memories had to be wiped because of it. So it left her a neurotic mess that focuses only on cleaning. Because if she focuses only on her cleaning, she can't see anything weird, and if she doesn't see anything weird, she doesn't get her mind wiped.

I know it's spoilers, but there's a lot of triangle imagery for a reason. Grunkle Stan is trying to use his device to connect to the Triforce because he wants to get Tears of the Kingdom before its release date. Completely understandable goals, really.

"We've all got something we wish we could erase from our memories, whether it be a book or a game so we can experience it for the first time..." Y'know what? PROPS for mentioning something pleasing like that, instead of defaulting to forgetting bad, traumatic or embarrassing moments from our memories. Never thought of it that way, but YES! I would like the chance to re-experience good things like that.

*Soos:* Rappers are visionaries Wendy, if they told me to eat my own pants, I would do it. *Rap Song:* Eat your own pants, eat your own pants yeah. *Soos:* I guess I have no choice. Doodoodoo. *Grunkle Stan:* Why is Soos eating his own pants? One of my favorite parts of the entire series!!

The truly insidious thing about this episode it that it reveals that Bill Cypher has, in fact, been Soos the whole time. Think about it - he always knows more than he seems to, constantly acting the buffoon but ready to solve a problem if it genuinely puts the family in danger, amused reaction to pain and suffering, complete lack of understanding of social cues - it's all there! He really slipped up by revealing the rap lyric before it was spoken - his omnipotence means that he has trouble perceiving when things happen, which is the only way that Dipper can beat him. Have fun with that theory, Mosco!

Did you notice that a coffee cup, pen & small notebook were drawn into the portal when Stan opened it? Watch carefully, it happens real fast. Guess where they came out? Thats right! The three objects Stan lost are all in Glimmer's bed room in the first couple episodes of She-Ra. You have to look carefully, but the pen & notebook are under the bed and cup is by one of the plants. Pretty cool, right? At some point when Adora is talking to Glimmer, Bow who is off to one side, picks up the coffee cup which has the Mystery Shack logo on it, examines it and shrugs. I missed it until someone pointed it out to me.

Episode 8 is a solid one, Episode 9 is alright, Episode 10 is REALLY GOOD and is a solid reminder of the ancient horrors of Gravity Falls... But Episode 11 is when things get very, very real!

I always love it when there's more nuance to something. Everything seems so sinister at first only for you to find out it's just a bunch of people who actually mean well but haven't really thought through their actions. The results are still bjorked but what was going on wasn't necessarily evil.

That mind control song from Robbie last season was totally something the Society of the Blind Eye created. They probably left it somewhere and forgot due to the memory wiping, and Robbie just found it

I hope you see the Alex Hirsch McGucket Author hoax! It was such a brilliant misdirect! Stan's cup and notepad that get sucked through the portal actually fall out of a portal in Rick and Morty!

Okay fun fact, (not a spoiler), the stuff that fell out of stan's hands into the machine came out of a background portal in Rick and Morty! Further expanding what I like to call the "animation multiverse"!

I can't wait for her to see the emotional scene where it is revealed that the author of the journals was actually McGucket's estranged father. McGucket didn't recognize him when he worked with him since he'd never met his father, but his father only hired him because he wanted to find some way to connect with his son. The scene in the finale where they are united brings me to tears 😢 (If you're wondering, McGucket's dad is named Filbrick and he was kicked out of his family's life because he screwed up a deal that would've made his family rich. His wife kicked him out, and he wrote the journals to try and find a new way to become successful)

I always saw this episode as a kid friendly way of of talking about substance abuse. McGucket abused a method of forgetting bad events in his life and it slowly destroyed his mind. 5:37: Remember when Bill said He'd give Dipper a hint in "Sock Opera"

It was a tad strange to learn that Toby Determined wrote Straight Blanchin' and that the song is the key to getting the portal working again.

You will need all your focus for the second half of this season. Stan and McGucked were leaders of two opposed groups in a civil war in the future. McGucked and the author of the journals build the portal wich is a time machine and went forward in time. Stan sneaked in with them after following them after having heared a lot of dubious stuff as a acriminal he was at this time. He searched for new opportunitys in this future and thus rose to the top of a rebbel group. The author and McGucked tryed to stop him, since he could destabalose the space time consistancy by messing with stuff in an other time. (Easter egg: you can see time babys wrath in the aftermath of this in the time traveling episode) Eventually McGucked and the author cought Stan and traveled back all together thus bringing the wearedness with them. After escaping Stan faked his death but kept spying on the author and McGucked. McGucked of cours invented the memory erasing gun after the horrors of future war and Stan stole the gun to erase the authors memory. The author still cept their (don't want to give away their gender, but it is someone we will see bevor the reveal as author) scientific attitude and started documenting the weardnes of Gravity Falls. After time the plans for the time machine came back and they wrote these down as well. Stan found out and saw this as a new way of going back to the future where he would be greeted as a king from his rebells. So he made the author disappear and took over their house with the portal in the basement. The last three episodes are basically Dipper Mable, Soos, Wendy and McGucked going throu the same time loop three times till they manage to undo what has happened. But it is so brilliantly executed, everytime with a new strategy and every try interacting with the others, no detail overlooked... thats what males this show awesome

The rap song doesn't have story significance outside of being a one episode joke; in America we play the same "top hit" songs on the radio over and over, especially in the summer. Drives us crazy sometimes! It was poking fun at that 😂

McGucket’s descent into madness was dark; it hits you harder than you’d expect

If I would ever have such a memory eraser gun I don't think I would erase any of my memories since I think no matter how much I dislike some of them they are still important for who I am. So I would probably use the gun to erase the memories of other people where I did something regretful or embarrassing.

The thing that I love about how this show was made, is that the creators not only trust the intelligence of it's viewers but they also purposefully tried to throw off their viewers because they knew just how smart their audience was going as far as the creator of the show himself (Alex Hirsch) posting false answers and pictures to throw people off the scent of the show's story.

The song was created to mind control people, it contains hidden messages that makes people susceptible to suggestions. The studio that made it in gravity falls can be hired to make similar music that messes with peoples minds.
