Zf swaps are a pain in the arse, you will need to get a 6sp ecu and loom as they are coded in with the tcm, your better off either manual swapping or buying a factory zf car

Thank god you swapped the wheels - looks heaps better. Bit late now but it's really easy to clean the seatbelt, take it out and let it soak in a bucket of hot water and laundry detergent for a couple of hours, then rinse and scrub clean with a stiff brush. When you put it back together, spray a bit of silicone lubricant on the retractor mechanism and on the top section where the belt wraps over the carrier, it'll retract like new. If you haven't already, grab that headliner from Imlachs, it'll be like $50 which is heaps cheaper than getting it redone. If you're interested I've got an auto-dimming rear view mirror from a Territory along with a wiring harness to suit B-series - I'm in south east Melb as well.

Nice score man, check the brakes and balljoints/front suspension. Brake booster rod adjustment has been needed on most I've owned. If it feels sluggish at low rpm and doesn't easily coast down hills, try tightening the bolt inside break booster a turn or 2, adjust as needed. Front suspension, there's cheap kits that have all pre pressed bushings if you want to save time and the hassle of getting them pressed in. strut/shock hat can wear leading to annoying creaks and noises Rear suspension, diff bushings and blade arms/bushings tend to break in most. Great cars when maintained right

Congrats on your purchase. Beautiful car and the BTR is a good box if regularly serviced. Looks like it's been maintained well. Don't waste your money on a ZF swap as they are not that special. The BF engine is more refined than the BA so economy is improved. I would only add a audio booster amp and a 3.5mm Bluetooth connector to modernise. No more money spent. Enjoy

Welcome to the B series family. I got the same year model bf as you, but in the 6 speed manual. 379,000 kms and still running beautiful. If I cruise on the highway for hours, I can get the average fuel consumption down to 8L/100kms. Which for me and how far I travel in comfort, is actually very acceptable.

I got my BA2 XR6 (NA 4 speed SSS…yeah BTR 😃) brand new in 2005 - 1 and only new car I have ever had or ever will - it’s coming up for 290,000kms and is still strong as ever. Got extractors, full sports system, k&N pod filter in a Mace Engineering CAI box, underdrive pulley and a tune - now 175rwkw. I got bigger turbo front brakes and it’s rolling on FG snowflake rims which suit it well. Only let down has been the paint - clear coat has disappeared in lots of places. Suspension is now shagged too from frequent speed bump humping - planning to do coilovers and rear control blades soon. Even though I also have a BF GT-P and a 2019 Mustang I still love my XR6 as a take anywhere without a care daily

So glad to see you put those factory fitted BF XR6 rims on they really suit this model. Kayhan ICC with speaker upgrades and extractors/hi-flo cat would be my next moves. Enjoy the car mate!

ZF seems better on paper, but the 4 speed has some benefits. Much cheaper and straight forward serving, more intuitive manual mode when bored, and for some reason the fly by wire is very direct feeling more like a cable throttle AU compared to the more laggy ZF.

Something to note about the BF MK2's, they changed the spring length in July 2007.

Very nice. I've had a BF Fairlane as my daily since 2020 and I absolutely love the thing. Just rolled over 250,000km too, so it's half way to its first major service ;) in all seriousness though, the absolute best things you can do to improve B series is super pro diff bushes, sway bar bushes and lower control arm bushes. Pair that with new struts all round and the thing will actually handle like a sports car. Also super cheap mod for better fuel economy and a bit better throttle response, grab the air intake tube from a territory and mount it in the factory location. You may need to do some slight clearencing with the bonnet liner but I've heard you get good Gaines. Never did it myself though. Otherwise if you want good infotainment, get an aerpro facia kit and a double din head unit for it. Don't bother with kahyans they're Chinese rubbish

If it doesnt have one, fit a trans cooler immediately. That will save the BTR and it will be way cheaper than doing a ZF swap.

The boot lid will guarantee be getting water into it. Remove the 2 rubber grommets on the lower edge so the water can escape or they will rust from the inside out. Had my BA series 1 for over 20 years now. 320,000 KMs and still driving great. The key is regular maintenance. Very important tip... get yourself the PWR external trans oil cooler kit that stops any chance of Milk Shake. If not already have one on the front of the radiator. Enjoy.

Nothing wrong with the brt just watch the down shifting if your going to trash it go into the trip-tonic and put a external cooler on it is a must.my one has 320thou kms on the original box and still smooth shifting

When these were new the rental companies could not charge a dollar more per day for the ZF over BTR hence so many 4 speed ex rentals.

I think most of these were sold with the BTR 4-speed. The suction cup mark is probably from a disability sticker. The car was probably owned by an old bloke rather than a young chick on P plates P plates have to be displayed on the outside, front and back of the vehicle.

Manual swap would be cheaper than a zf swap, although in my experience with way to many b series falcs, the btr is on its way out, if it’s doing nothing wrong today, it will tomorrow

Spend btr swap money on Na+turbo kit... Nu-finish polish works ok to tidy up paint...

ZF 6 Speed Auto on BA and BF may not be done " Successfully ". Cause FORD computer ( ECU ) that's on the engine and the computer on the Gear Box is directly connected. If you take out the 4 - 5 Speed Auto transmission out and put in ZF 6 Speed the computer on your engine wont recognise it. There is a KZfaqr by the name of FGmods and in one of his videos he properly explains it.

The zf swap is basically a shell swap, well it’s not but in terms it would be easier to just shell swap to a zf shell, what needs to be replaced for zf bcm, tcm, ecu, cluster, wiring loom and then of course the obvious zf and tailshaft

Those are average kms for these. Heaps around with over 300,000 these days and still going.

we picked one up once for 2200 with that dark metalic green colour and 140.000kms, unfortunately its no longer with us... lasted just over 20 sets of tyres and a few power steering pumps before we let it rest in a paddock.. rip falcon :(

The boot struts are bad for rust and in the front of the rear wheel arch but they are one of my favourite cars the wagons and the utes are a lot better

BTR is fine. I've got a BA with 553,000km...still on it's original 4 speed BTR. They're not as smooth as a ZF but better then most 4 speed autos

In my opinion the EF is a way better car don’t like the b series body’s shitbox rusty boot area and cowl panels rust out and I couldn’t stand the IRS crap rear end .. basically in my opinion the best car to modify is the mighty xh Ute xr6 had a proper diff Lsd 3.45.1 on flipped number 3 leafs out handles any ba shitbox I got my eye on a xh xr8 will be my next project

If you only paid $3500 for that, that’s insanely cheap, well cheap to me anyways haha. You want something like that in Tasmania you’re looking at atleast $8000. And that’s one that’s in average condition, most likely been flogged and not maintained, and with barely any rego and close to 300,000kms.
