I’m 64 and started sketching and drawing again after many many years absence. Took art at school here in the UK, I was rubbish then and gave up. I’ve watched lots of your videos here and found the inspiration from you and your work and the courage to try again. I’m feeling a lot more relaxed about learning again and your posts are so encouraging. I’m using charcoals and graphites and coloured pencils etc…Thank you Carly your such a beautiful soul ❤

Hello Carly, Wow great drawing! I really liked the first one with the white bottom, it made her stand out more even though you did not like it I really did. But the second one that one was great, your line work, shading, the way you made the back ground seem distant so she could stand out more in the forefront, the way you captured her in her pose so real, her figure, her tattoo, her hands fantastic😊! I hope the photographer loved it!😊. Keep up the great work!!

This really resonated with me. I can't tell you how many times I've had to start over, after spending hours and hours, because I was not happy with it. Not only that, a drawing that I had finished a couple months ago, every time I looked at it, I didn't like the mouth, it bothered me. Finally, I redrew it, fixed the mouth and parts of the hair and now there isn't anything I don't like about it. If something isn't right, it is like a burden hanging over me--you know what I mean, I'm sure. I work in brushed charcoal and brushed pan pastel. I love your work. -111

0:28 "So that's just the nature of art. Sometimes. So I'm not happy with it, and I couldn't possibly sell anything that I didn't love......it's just not one hundred percent." I heard that and had to pause the video and sub. I feel that frustration and sense of wanting to do better. Sometimes I feel like I am never done with a portrait - that there's always something I could fix, make better or do a bit differently to get the desired effect. It's hard for me to love my drawings while feeling that, but over the years I have learned to "let them go." I had to come to the realization that its' too easy to overwork a piece and never be satisfied with it. Now I have learned to love my drawings even with the "imperfections" so that I don't overwork them. The trick was learning the difference between improving the piece and overworking it. I had to draw the line.....pun fully intended.

When you work on larger pieces what do you use to dry it on? I have bought a 10‘10 yard Bristol paper and I’m having trouble to figuring What should I use as a surface? So draw on it
