This is the largest number of sheep i’ve ever taken to mart in one trip. The problem is… the trade is down this week.

ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZfaq and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

I tried the cc option too after reading your comment. I’m only a minute and a half in and the cc has told me he’s selling both lamps and alarms from his farm in Germany! Thank goodness I didn’t need the cc’s and can listen to his beautiful accent.

Cammie you had that sleep-deprived-new-dad look at the start and not a word of complaint! Enjoy this season of fatherhood and remember in a year from now you will be chasing a baby and then in another year you will need Fern to manage the baby as she will be a pro by then. That truck was amazing engineering/design and so efficient! Is that as big as they get for the narrow roads? Great vlog!

I remember the first time I sold over 100 lambs on the one day I was chuffed. They weighed 44 kg and averaged 39.50 I still remember the exact price and weight and felt so good bringing the cheque to the bank a few days later 4 and a half grand it was the biggest lodgement I had ever made up to then, that's almost half a century ago and guess what I still get a buzz out of bringing out my lambs every year, but now a days it's only the ewe lambs that are fit for breeding that go to the sale ring and all the rest go directly to the meat plant , when the numbers get big and you are going with a hundred or more a week from June to October the better return from the meat plant makes a difference that extra 2 or 3 percent can make a difference and especially in a bad year which I have seen more of than good ones, best of luck lad , I would love to be able to shear but my shearing is reduced to the few that got away now a days, and that half kills me!

Loved the music for your ''sheep drive''. I'm always amazed at how well your lambs do on straight grass. We feedlot ours, land rent and coyotes are just too much here to make that work for me. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jonathon. Yeah every country has different issues. Totally understand. Sandi has similar problems with predators. Lamb is still a fantastic source of protein with minimal environmental impact no matter how you finish them.

Hi from Tennessee in the USA. I absolutely love watching your videos. I've learned more about sheep than I ever knew existed. We raise horses but not on the level that would be considered farming. @@TheSheepGame It is a treat. But I am Canadian 🇨🇦 The rules here for livestock trucks are similar to the US. My Dad was Scottish, but lost most of his accent. Not so for my Grandma. I couldn't understand that other people didn't always get what she was saying. I understood her fine. Apparently she had a broad brogue. 👵🏻

I really enjoy your sheep vlogs and banter. It brings back a lot of good memories raising sheep with my father & brother when I was young in Kansas, USA. I traveled through Ayrshire once and remember it looking like a great place to raise sheep and cattle with all of the lush pastures. Congratulations on the birth of your first son. Subtitles correct. When I first moved to Scotland I listen to Lorraine Kelly everyday for three or four months just so that I can begin to understand the brogue. I still had to tell some people to slow down talking because they talk so fast and my Deep South American ears couldn't keep up.

Well done Cammie, top class lambs, I sold similar lambs this week avg around 140 euros per head in Ireland, market is picking up a bit here again, good sharp ewe lambs/hogget makers are a very good trade too.

I saw you on the HoofGP and thought I would check your sheep out. They are beautiful lambs! On my bucket list is a visit to Scotland if we ever can travel again. My biggest travel thrill was visiting Ireland (North & Republic), I want to live there! So when I get to Scotland there will be a drive to your place and Graeme! This is the first time I’ve watched one of your videos and must say I really enjoyed it! (I found you through Sandi Brock - Sheepishly Me) Between the metric system, and your wonderful accent, half the fun was just trying to figure out what you are saying and converting the weights and prices... When I moved into the Pennines, 32 years ago, I had a spell of going off lamb. Seeing all the babies in spring made me feel a bit sad. But then a friend said to me that sheep have the best and most natural life of all the farmed animals. Which is so true. They also shape our beautiful landscape around here. Not to mention the fact that it has to be the tastiest of all meats.

Loving the mart video, trade is still hanging on here in ireland looking although hogs were not as dear as I thought they might have been going on last spring lamb prices
