I'm whole-heartedly looking forward to getting my hands on a few bags of the Ikea coffee that's already ground for espresso, so stay tuned! All in all, my rating so far is... not the worst thing ever.
You can learn more about Ikea's coffee line here: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/patar-gr...
James Hoffmann has reviewed all of Ikea's coffee tools and you can check that out here: • Review: All of IKEA's ...
See y'all next week... It just might be a barista blog. Maybe. Possibly. We'll see.

So even IKEA coffee matches their image: simple, minimalistic, functional, straight to the point, not offensive, pretty much universal.

It's so refreshing to see a review on cheap coffee, where the reviewee doesn't slam everything about it and claim it undrinkable because they are comparing it to organic hand-picked Yirgacheffe and brewed on a machine that would ruin most people if they had to buy it. Nice to see someone actually reviewing it for what it is :)

My favorite thing about this channel is that Morgan doesn't feel she has to hate on dark roasts to be serious about coffee. I like dark roasts the best, and I still deserve good coffee (and to watch coffee-related videos without being constantly told that my tastes are inferior). My favorite roaster has several dark roasts which they put a lot of care into.

I appreciate james hoffman's persona in that regard too - he breaks down why things are done a certain way, shows how he compares it and often mentions how he's playing with stupidly expensive kit by virtue of being a coffee youtuber rather than it being a need for good coffee (maybe, sure, a 'need' if you#re a specia;ist or connoseur wanting to accentuate specific parts of different beans, grinds and roasts, but not essential to make a good cup

This table arrived well packaged and on time. kzfaq.infoUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!

How is ground coffee in the US typically packaged? Because this vacuum sealed block is how all ground coffee for drip-brewing here in Germany is sold.

I was about to ask the same question, because for me(also from Germany) this is the only form I know ground coffee is packaged. But I also just noticed that the ground coffee I get from stores like TKMaxx(which aren't from Germany) aren't vaccum sealed as well. They even have some sort of vent to smell the coffee... interesting difference

Here in Brazil we have both the vacuum sealed and the loosely packed ones. At least here, I would say that the vacuum sealed is more of a non-specialty coffee thing since they are probably roasting a lot of coffee and freshness isn't something to be quite expected as you don't know when it will be consumed. On the other hand, the "nicer" coffees that have roasting date and farm info (is farm the right word? lol) probably are expected to be consumed fresher since you're also not mass producing it, so those generally come loosely packed on a smaller bag (150g~250g, against the usual 500g for the vacuum sealed).

Pre-ground coffee in Sweden is pretty much always packaged like this (in 500g packages). It makes for less packaging (better for environment) and much easier for transporting (also better for the environment). Also, having a little symbol representing, for example, a drip brewer or french press is pretty much also standard on coffee packaging in Sweden. I'm guessing they are just following the standard Swedish norm. So just to clarify, nothing about the packaging of the IKEA coffee is inherently unique for IKEA.

If you hold the start button or on button for a couple of seconds until it starts to blink it won't turn on but then when you switch the coffee maker on it flashes and it does a bloom feature where it just drips out a little bit of coffee it's pretty cool. When you say, “four cups”, do you mean coffee cups, i.e. 5-6 ounces, or do you mean 8 oz, standard US kitchen cups? I do wish the US would just go metric. I spent my career in chemistry labs. It’s so much simpler working all in one consistent unit system.

The french press probably said 4 cups on it, and a standard "cup" measurement used in cooking or baking is always the volume of 250ml or 250g of water.
@markholm7050
@markholm7050 3 жыл бұрын
@@ArchitaAdluri Ah, I sense a person who does not have to deal with the reality of American measurement. A standard American kitchen cup measure is equivalent to 48 standard teaspoons, 16 tablespoons, 8 fluid ounces, 1/2 pint, 1/4 Quart, 1/16 gallon or 236.5882 milliliters. Coffee cups are another matter altogether. There is no agreed upon standard. As a unit of measure, a coffee cup is usually in the range 5-6 fluid ounces. In the United States, this seems to be settling down on 5 fluid ounces per coffee cup, but do not expect to walk into a Starbucks and be served 5 ounces of anything. customerservice.starbucks.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3113/~/what-are-the-sizes-of-starbucks-drinks%3F At the liquor store, matters are different. The most common US size for distilled spirits was the fifth, supposedly 1/5 of a gallon. People may still use the term, but the booze business has gone almost entirely metric. A "fifth" bottle in the US now holds 750 ml. This is also the most common size of wine bottle in the US. Other sizes are also often available.
@ArchitaAdluri
@ArchitaAdluri 3 жыл бұрын
@@markholm7050 i wasnt talking about kitchen cups or Starbucks or liquor... a measuring cup used in cooking or baking is the volume occupied by 250ml of water. If you buy a measuring tablespoon it is 15ml, thats a standard. Go to a store and buy a set of measuring cups and you will see the one marked '1 cup' is 250 ml of water. If you read any american or canadian recipie it will use cups, and that is a standard measurement and not an invitation to use xoffee mugs or starbucks takeout cups as a measuring tool.
@markholm7050
@markholm7050 3 жыл бұрын
@@ArchitaAdluri I am certain you are mistaken. A standard American measuring cup, holds a volume of 236.5882 ml, not 250. A Tablespoon is 14.78676 ml, not 15. A teaspoon is 4.928922 ml, not 5. In cooking, we often get away with approximations, because most cooking does not demand high precision. As an example, I have a PYREX brand, glass measuring cup made, back in the good old days, by the Corning Glass company. Corning made both domestic and scientific glassware and was well aware of volume calibrations. This measuring cup is labeled in cup, fluid ounce and milliliter units. The 250 ml line is clearly higher than the 1 cup/8 fl oz line. The question of coffee volume measurement is, as I described, even more confused than kitchen measurement.

A few years ago, I had a coffee at an Ikea in Massachusetts. It was just what they had at the cafeteria. It was a light-roast blend. I had it with half-and-half and thought it tasted really good. I just assumed they only had 1 coffee offering and didn't realize they sell different offerings. I looked online and don't see a light roast option anymore. For some reason, I just haven't had good luck with lights roast even ones roasted by well regarded coffee shops here in San Francisco. Despite their high-brow descriptions, to me most of these light roast coffee just taste sour to me. And yes, I take coffee very seriously, I have done a lot of research and understand you have to brew them at higher temperature. If anyone knows someone that makes a great light roast coffee, please do share.

The closest Ikea to me is in Colorado Springs. About a half day's drive away and in another state. So I'm not going there in the near future. I wonder if you can order online? I should check that out. I've only been to Ikea twice. Once in Germany and once in Colorado. I really love it in there. Great video! I'm slowly getting over my anxiety about using my Krups Espresso XP5620. When I bought it years ago it sat there cause I was intimidated by it. Still having trouble with frothing the milk.

500gram vakuumpacked bag of coffee. All pre-ground coffee comes like this over here in Sweden :) We usually just open the top and either use the package itself as "storage" or just pour it into a coffee tin. But I have never removed the whole paper enclosure like you did lol, but I guess it was for the video.

As I said purchased two coffees at 12 oz each and I opened one yesterday with my caregiver. It's been a while so I forgot that it is one of the world's most heavenly aromas. My caregiver who doesn't drink coffee repeated over and over again how good it smelled and how it made the kitchen smell lovely. I have found that even coffee haters love the smell of a fresh opened bag of coffee. It is one of the simple little pleasures in life that anyone can do! :-)

I like the 1850 pioneer blend from Folgers. 😂 I’m sure it’s not a fancy level of coffee, but it makes me feel better than just drinking the stuff out of a tin.

Hang on is it unusual for coffee to be vacuum sealed? I see a lot of those dense bricks in the coffee aisle where I'm from. I love when they relax after they're unsealed.

I've vacuum sealed whole bean coffee, and it indeed clunks around like oddly-shaped bricks. Until the vacuum fails, which is always the annoying kind of fun. Folger's did the "vacuum sealed" packaging once like 30 years ago with their ground coffee, and I don't think it caught on. When you mentioned "1.1 pounds of coffee", I thought, "Oh, that's just about 500 grams." (1 kg ~= 2.2 pounds)
